I think I’ve noticed some side effects with snuffing and I’m curious whether it’s just me, just the types of snuff I use or if this is a common thing. One of the side effects being slightly sweaty hands. I feel a slight increase of moisture on my skin in some places, especially my hands after a hit, sometimes accompanying a cold/slightly numb sensation. The funny thing is that this does not always happen, but I’d say 25 - 50% of the times. I’ve also become more itchy after I started snuffing. I’m not sure if it might come from some completely other reasons I haven’t figured out or if it really is because of the snuff. But as far I can figure now, there is something going through my blood system since I started snuffing which causes me too itch, especially my forearms. Some snuffs dry me out. I feel an increased need for water intake. These are all just minor inconveniences, but it makes me wonder.
The biggest side effect is going around looking like Ron Weasley in “The Sorcerer’s Stone”… Hermione: By the way… you’ve got dirt on your nose! I know one woman who wrinkles her nose and uses a line similar to this one all the time!
If you recently started using snuff, itching may be a result of dry indoor air during the cold season. As the house is heated, indoor relative humidity goes way down. Standard side effects of nicotine are: •Fast or irregular heartbeat •fever with or without chills •headache •nausea with or without vomiting •runny nose •shortness of breath, tightness in the chest, trouble with breathing, or wheezing •skin rash, itching, or hives •tearing of the eyes
I get slight nausea now and again but don’t get anything else listed above.i do dream more though, never bad ones either.
you forgot the effect it has on the digestive system as a stimulant… for the first year of my strong smokeless use and a little of my smoking use, it made me need the toilet in stronger amounts (of the tobacco ) give me a coffee and a good quantity of tobacco in a morning and its usually a sure thing. the other thing i had was dreams- enough nicotine close enough to sleep, and it seems to amplify dreams.
When I first started snuffing, my hands and feet would sweat and itch really bad. This faded after a few weeks and it no longer happened. Really strange because I smoked a pack a day for over ten years and use chewing tobacco occasionally as well. It was a side effect only brought on by snuffing. Snuff always gives me a much more calming effect than cigarettes ever did which I suppose is a great effect

I’m not able to view that site outside of the states apparently… : P
Sweating palms is a symptom of high nicotine intake. I thought I was accustomed to nicotine before snuff too, but snuff behaves somewhat differently. With some of the heavy hitting snuffs I will still get sweaty palms from time to time.
So that’s why my feet keep getting sweaty even when it’s freezing in here. Can put that one to rest!
Less money to spend on woman, also less space at your desktop
When I first started it slightly irritated my nose and nasal cavity (itch and other forms of discomfort and if I when a little to hard with my sniffing I ended up with tobacco in my eye socket (hyperbole of course) and tear-filled eyes. However, I have of yet to experience any of the symptoms that you have described. I should mention that I am also a relatively new snuffer. My best guess is that your symptoms would be derived from excess exposure to nicotine. Then again probably not qualified to make such a judgement due to be a newer snuffer and a lack of a medical degree.
About the only thing I’ve noticed is the dreams. I usually take a hit of Hedges before retiring and the dreams are vivid and interesting. Just wild stuff and never “bad”. Have no idea why, never really noticed this with smoking a pipe before bed. I like it.
I noticed what you say in the beginning, but not any more, about the dreams. I love hitting the pillow with a fresh dose in my nose. Anyway, I wanted to update this thread. I have no longer experienced those effects from snuff. It only lasted for a while in my beginning phase. Another update though is that my nose has become seriously congested from snuffing, especially the right side nostril - though it may shift to the left after a night of sleeping left side down, but usually ends up going back to the right throughout the day. Interesting that gravity affects it. Anyway, I made a little experiment as of late, to stop taking snuff, its day 3 now, back on snus… and I have to say, my nose has cleared up a bit, but not as much as I thought it would. It seems as if breathing is 20% reduced through the nose, and one nostril is always a lot worse than the other. What is this about? Can anyone explain what does this? Is it normal to last so long? Funny thing though, even back on the oh so satisfying snus, I still miss snuff. It truly is the most enjoyable form of tobacco. But im going to ride this experiment out for a while.
Ever heard of food sensitivities? The body creates all these inappropriate antibodies causing so much of this wierdness.
You would think the body really is trying to tell you not to continue taking said product then, like it’s a genuine warning to be wary of…?
I also have this ‘gravity dependent clogging’. Sometimes I actually feel it change from one side to the other when I turn over in bed, sometimes accompanied by a noticeable ‘air bubble popping’ feeling. I believe that this is caused by a sinus full of mucus. When I turn over in bed, gravity helps it to drain, but also causes the opposite side to fill up. I took some WoS Rose last night before I went to sleep, and I woke up with a horrible pain and pressure around my left eye. I blew my nose a few times, and the pressure released, and there was snuff in the tissue, indicating that it had been sitting in my sinuses all night. It was so bad that I was convinced that I was getting sick, but about half an hour after blowing my nose, I felt completely normal again. I guess it just takes more persistence for some people to get used to snuff than others.
For me, the only side effect I have experienced is an incredible increase in the urge to pick my nose. >:)
Excellent! Thanks for sharing @doctorbeat . I also felt like it may be due to a build up in my sinuses. I could feel how it would shift just as how you explained it. And the sensation of feeling sick has occurred me with some reckless sniffing of Xmas Pudding. You see, I was worried whether or not there was a swelling of tissue or glands or some other strange phenomenon… Well, it’s nice to be reassured about what may be going on. I think it very well may be a matter of getting used to it then, blowing the nose thoroughly and those kinds of things. *cracks up a new box of mentholated heaven*
