So i placed 2 orders at Mr. Snuff. 1 with regular shipping and the other with Airsure. My regular order came in exactly a week from when it was shipped. Tomorrow, it will have been 2 weeks since my airsure order was shipped. Has this happened to anyone else?
Apparently customs is confiscating everything I order. I had one order shipped 2 weeks ago and an order shipped 1 week ago and haven’t seen hide nor hair of either. Hope somebody is enjoying my hard earned money!
Soon come
I know they will Bart…I’s just bein a little sarcastic…technically it’s only been11 business days on the first and 5 on the second so I’m not worried about it. If it was 50 somethin days like that other fella I might be huntin down some customs workers…lol! I just get a mental picture of a bunch of guys sittin around and seeing a Mr. Snuff order, “Hey guys, more snuff!” and sniffing away all that brown gold!!
Good luck. I placed an order on the 27th of last month, it shipped the 8th and it’s the 24th and I have still seen nothing of it. I’m burning out on ordering from overseas. I ordered a snuff bottle off ebay from China the day after my mr.snuff order shipped and I got the bottle from like some unpronounceable region in China yesterday morning. I’ve only ordered from outside the states twice and both times it took 3 and a half weeks or longer to arrive. If it’s customs…I hate 'em.
Yeah, I’m into week two on my Mr Snuff order too. They used to get here in a week, and now it’s taking closer to two weeks. The order I’m waiting on now was over 500g, so I’m anticipating waiting even longer for this one to clear. What a shame, and there’s not a dang thing we can do to influence the outcome at all. Patience is a skill.
I will not order anymore stuff from the USA, be it snuff, tobacco, pipes or what ever. The Erinmore tobacco took 35 days to reach me. I will order from the UK instead at least until the US has changed there shipping policy.
I originally posted this in the Mailbox thread, but it seems more appropriate here: >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Order shipped Jan 27th, still no luck. Just got this from the US Postal web site: "The U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) on Feb. 3, 2011 updated the security measures for mail transportation to the U.S. The updated measures take effect Feb. 8, and will expire on March 10. The Security Directive and Emergency Amendment of Feb. 3 extended the expiration date of the current security measures for 30 days. The details of the security measures in effect were shared with UPU member countries by EmIS message No. 003/2011 on Jan. 8. Designated postal operators should contact their aircraft operators to make sure they have checked the TSA secure website for important information on applying for alternative screening procedures for bagged mail. " I’m hoping the order was just delayed due to customs and the ice storm, but I’m starting to get that sinking feeling. The delay doesn’t bother me, its just not knowing whether the order will arrive. I’m spending the extra money on postal tracking from now on. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Help! We are living in a police state.
@Rocktopus you’re right and that sucks. It gets worse by the day too, with every administration wanting more power to invade our privacy. I don’t see an end to it. I’ve found that a tracking number for overseas orders (from a US perspective) don’t help much because the tracking ends when the package is handed off for US delivery. I was really fortunate though, my Mr Snuff order arrived in like 8 days. I was very pleased, as it was a fairly large (for me) order over 500g and apparently wasn’t unduly delayed in customs.
With the way this is going I am done ordering from overseas for quite awhile. I have a LARGE stockpile now and a steady supply of fresh leaves to make my own. I’ll order Scotches from Tom or whatever else I come by in the states but as far as waiting a month from the time I order or more to get my stuff…nah. I’m getting stuff off ebay here from China faster. Once this order comes I am only ordering stuff from inside the US until Tom has nothing at all left. I know it isn’t the vendors fault but I just can’t stand waiting a month or more to get a package smaller that a shoebox. I do alot of ordering on e-bay and alot of it is out of the country and I never have waited this long for anything I’ve ver ordered.
this customs shit is shit. I tell you they have a stradegy that’s idiotic across the board. Though it’s possible you local post office is the one sucking at getting your package to you. I’ve known people that had to get P.O. boxes for their packages cause their local just sucked that bad.
I have a P.O. box. Always have. 2 orders…1st order @ 3 weeks, second order just shy of 20 days since shipping tomorrow will be ONE MONTH since I placed the order. I am totally turned off by these kinds of times. I understand there is customs and stuff holding things up…I do. Even so I had stuff ordered afterward from China arrive sooner! Maybe if a shipping option other than Royal Mail comes up for overseas snuff like DHL or UPS I will order from overseas again, I would much rather pay the extra shipping for faster service or at least have the option too. Both times I have ordered snuff from overseas have seen 5 days to a week to ship, then nearly a month to arrive. I ordered from Tom again recently and it shipped in 24 hours arrived in 48 hours from the time I clicked the order button. If Tom is still gonna sell scotches I may just have to force myself to buy only them from now on until something better comes along, that or make my own after my Armageddon-worthy stockpile runs out
luckily i live in the uk and my jumbo order from mrsnuff arrived the day after he posted it.
Its not customs holding you up. Its TSA as mentioned in other posts. Ordering via UPS or DHL won’t make the slightest bit of difference, since they still must have customs, and now TSA, clear their packages for import.
@Xander: you are quite correct. In fact UPS FedEx etc go through regular customs which are under NO incentive to speed things up. USPS have their own customs inspectors and I would think they would be under some pressure to minimize delays, at least more so than their counterparts. All Fedex and UPS parcels must formally clear customs whereas USPS customs inspectors randomly select but a few of the 10s of millions of parcels that enter the states thru the regular mail system. These past two months were screwed up so badly because of the heightened alert forcing all parcels worldwide to be checked. The system is not set up to handle that kind of volume and hence millions of parcels languished in customs warehouses until they were full, at which point US customs forced mail/cargo haulers to store them in warehouses in the origin country or tech-stop country until they had more room. Royal Mail told me only 25% of Christmas parcels even left the UK in anything like a timely manner. I am sure it would be the same for any other country. To make matters worse it seemed completely random. We had customers make orders over 2Kg in which case it was split over 2 or more boxes. One box would sail right through; the other would not. This of course would lead anybody believe after a few more days wait, that the second box must be lost. Not so of course. All in all, very frustrating. Most people would take the extra tiny risk (lets face it more people fall victim every year to home-grown terrorism than foreign) and not put up with the hassle, but of course no politician wants to be the one to say it, ‘just in case’. Political suicide. When you think of of the billions that are spent every hour defending our freedom with the net result being less freedom, you have to wonder. Personally I would happily board a plane at half the airfare, x-rayed baggage (hold and cabin), and random selection of a profiled group (ie males between 16 and 35 = 99.999% of all terrorists, ever) and no further screening. I would sign that waiver in a heart-beat. Statistically there is more chance of flying through a flock of birds and having a double flame-out. The trouble is we are inundated with ‘fear’ news to such an extent it is easy to forget how safe we actually are in a modern democracy. There is much more chance of being hit by a car, or beaten up in a bar, and even that is extremely unlikely in the grand scheme of things. Imagine no world news. How much contact with violence, terrorism, bio-threats etc do we actually have? Not a whole lot for the vast majority of people. The exception of course is if you are in a profession which routinely exposes you to the violent small % (eg cops). It would be tough not to get cynical in that case. In my experience of life, the vast vast majority of people are friendly, trustworthy, trusting, honest, open and decent. Worldwide. We all laugh and cry at the same things, and we all tend to welcome strangers in for a cup of tea on the natural assumption that they have no malintention and that they are interesting. It is the human way. Maybe, of course, I have just been lucky. Dave
Wow. I read all this, and it makes me wonder why everyone was talking me into ordering overseas. “It usually only takes a week” is what I kept hearing…’ I ordered 5 tins. I’ll be pissed if I wait a friggin’ month for them… and it really drives me crazy that Tom doesn’t carry anything from EU anymore…
You can thank the anti tobacco fanatics for that as well.
I have learned…the hard way of course(this seems to be the only way I am capable of learning)…it is much less stressful to order when I don’t need to. This way I am in no danger of of running out of snuff, and am able to just sit back and wait for it to arrive. I’ll be damned if this Postal crisis is going to stop me from ordering what I want, from the distributor of my choice. I have finally found the perfect distributor that carries all the snuffs that I know I like, plus those I have yet to try, so my middle finger is proudly raised to those that might try to put a damper on my passion. I will always find a way to beat them at their own game!
@transistor: I hear you totally. The only bright spot is that it does all seem to have calmed down substantially since Jan 17th. I would estimate that at least 95% of orders sail through with no problem at all, taking sometimes 4 days but not more than 10. The other 5% are slowed down, but even then most arrive within two weeks. Perhaps 1-2% are actually held up by customs, though, touch wood, none have been returned yet. Perhaps I painted an overly bleak picture during my rant Dave
