Snuff rituals

Earlier I was decanting my newly purchased snuffs into jars for storage and I took a small taste from each one. Needless to say I soon had a traffic jam of Wilsons of McCrystals chocolateorangeappleblackcurrantclove. I’m wondering, what, if anything, is your ritual when you receive a new shipment of snuff? What are other snuff rituals that you might practice?

I do something similar although I sample each one after waiting several minutes so as to clean my nose before moving on to the next one, this way I get the full flavor of each snuff. Sometimes I turn into a mad scientist though and just start mixing random snuffs together to get new scents. My main ritual these days is to have a couple of pinches of Toque Violet with some tea and a book before bed.

After waiting all that time to get my shipment, for some strange reason, I try to not sample more than one new snuff per day. The eagerness seems to dissipate once the snuff is sitting here in the house. There is much expectation, even anxiety, when it is “in transit.”

@howdydave, there is an interesting idea on your mean to maximize reception time. Me, I sometimes caught myself to do a caress on my WoS collection, saying wonderfull…So many greats smells and nicotine gifts in front of me,for me…

I try to be like dave. I only half succeed and open only half my tins.

I don’t struggle with trying to restrain myself. I generally have a pinch of each of the snuffs I’ve received in my nose within an hour of opening it. The next day, I sample each individually and proceed from there.

After 4 years of ordering snuff, snus, tobacco and pipes from overseas, I’m in the habbit of checking my box at the post office on a daily base, even when I’m not waiting for any parcels. It’s become a RITUAL and I even go there on Sundays although the post office is closed. You never know your luck in a big city.

I’m building quite a handsome snuff collection now, and if I have a new delivery come through, it usually consists of four or more new snuffs that I haven’t tried before. I always limit myself to trying a maximum of half the shipment on the first day-I don’t want to “speed date” my snuffs, I want to get to know each one’s characteristics and eccentricities, really understand each one and find out if we’re compatible. I’ve learned that this takes weeks, though, and often snuffs you adore on first pinch don’t translate into everyday snuffs. For example, I gobbled up loads of Bernard Brasil Doppelt Fermentiert when it arrived, but it’s just too heavy as a regular snuff-I keep it for a treat when I’m in the right mood-whereas some of my regulars, Best Dark and Ice Liquorice for example, I wasn’t particularly taken with at first pinch but came to love. Gawith Apricot has become my ritual ‘last snuff of the day’, I love slipping into a heady slumber with that glorious Apricot end-note ringing on in my nose.
