Hello all. It has been a while, but I have had a bit of time to lurk from time to time. The site is getting a little crazy. anyway… I thought I would take the time to warn others of the mistake I made and hopefully prevent others from making the same mistake made. this is probably obvious to everyone else but at the moment, I wasn’t thinking. Normally after I’ve finished a pipe I leave it out in the front porch to dry out. For some reason this time I did not. I would blame Mr. Johnny Walker black label for this one, but I did invite him over. I put my pipe in the same drawer as I keep my snuff. !!! Today as I went to get a pinch of chocolate, I got chocolate and stale pipe. then I got Grapefruit and stale pipe, then original and stale pipe. What the F was I thinking? I 've lost it all friends. the only batch that wasn’t “infected” was the F&T Bordeaux. Due to the tight/bullet proof tin it comes in. this is not a bash on any other company’s tins, but apparently they were not as air tight. So in total I’ve probably lost 100g of snuff. boo hoo for me. Roderick, next pay = big order. P.S My icewine is ready…
Big Buyer has snuff for sale on the cheap in the request thread. Sorry to hear this. As soon as I read that you put your pipe in your desk, I thought that it would have caught on fire. Live and learn.
lol… I did tap out the dallop… p.s the house is still standing. nightcap
PHEW! I also thought you were going to say your house burned down. Kinda anti-climatic actually. Sorry about your loss though…
I think I would have mixed all the ‘tainted’ snuff together then add new flavorings/spices etc and see if I could salvage…
#1 @ Bigblue… you walk a thin line when you tease a Canadian about his hockey teams…(lol!) #2 @ Trout I’ve already made a big " mélange de merde" of all the tainted snuffs. I’ll give them a week and give it a shot, but I think they are toast.
I’d try and save them, open them up, stir them about, let em air out some. I don’t know.
tobacco is a very absorbent substance. once an aroma is " in there" it’s hard to get it out
Well, I guess start again. Snuffs rather cheap, a couple of $20 orders and you’d have a bit to go on.
@ bigblue… next year damn it… next year.
thanks for the warning. I keep my pipe in my snuff drawer too, but I always leave it in the ashtray overnight before I clean it and put it away. I will be even more mindful now.
Maybe you should try stirring each tin with a pipe cleaner
@ Matt: LOL! @ nightcap: sorry to hear that, mate. That Johnny Walker is an insistent fellow, isn’t he? He often gets me to do things I regret later on.
@nightcap- sorry to hear about the loss…and too bad about your snuff too!
@ onefortheroad…lol… thanks…
Oh, bummer. I could totally see that happening. My pipe cabinet is, to borrow the wife’s word, stinky. I keep all my snuffs in the drawer below the cabinet. I’m wondering about my cigars though. Although they are in humidors, the humidors are in the same cabinet as the pipes. Hmmm.
