Hello, I am wondering if snuff is heavily metabolized in the nose. Because when I blow my nose only a fraction of the taken snuff is coming out. Is it specific for each snuff? Or could it be that blowing your nose brings the snuff in the sinuses and it stays there. This is why most doctors say blowing your nose isn’t good when you got a chill. Wouldn’t it be better to clean your nose with a bit of water and a handkerchief or something like that for getting out the tobacco, instead of blowing your nose? Snuff stimulates the production of nasal secretions, so couldn’t you alternatively simply wipe out what flows out of the nose and clean your nose with water at the end of each day? 3 Ways, which is the best and healthiest way?
I think most would say to buy a netie pot. I usually find that a lot more comes out of my nose than I thought went in but I guess it would depend on not only the snuff but the person as well. Hope this helps
Nah snuff isn’t going to be metabolized in your nose, grains of snuff are way to thick to pass through your membranes. I’d say whatever isn’t blown out drips down your throat, though slowly such that you don’t notice it.
some will cake up on the inside. Clean it out however you see fit. I use a variety of methods: hot shower, neti pot, q tip, fingers, twisted tissue paper. It will work its way out eventually by secretion, even if you don’t do this.
Secretion. I wish I had a nickel for every time someone asked if I had a bloody nose in the Wintertime. I wouldn’t be a millianaire but I might have a couple dollars by now. ( Maybe I should have made it a dollar for every time someone asked…)
I find that I don’t blow out as much as I thought I snuffed in. During the day, I use a hankie to wipe the junk out of my nostrils. At night I use a bulb syringe to rinse out the junk, then a neti pot in a hot shower in the morning. I didn’t know that docs suggested not blowing your nose or stuff get sucked up into the sinuses…never heard of that before.
I think some makes it way down to your stomach just because that what the nose does. What is left gets mixed with dirt and mucus and comes out in the normal fashion. What ever way you do it. Blowing too hard is not good for your eyes or ears. If you get congested I suggest a nasal spray.
Thank you for all your advice, very nice! Especially the idea with the bulb syringe and the q-tip is worth trying out. But I don’t like neti pot, it feels very uncomfortable, even if it is probably the best method to get everything out of your nose. By the way, watch out when you clean your nose with tap water, atleast in the USA. I read about brain-eating unicellular organisms in tap water. Fox news reported, that they died because they used a neti pot with tap water. Source Very strange things are going on in this world… Greetings from Bavaria, Germany!
Well gents, I’m glad my question has been answered, where in the heck does all that snuff go? I think this should be the subject of a TV discovery show.
They should use this soundtrack.
the nose empties into the stomach. Draining stray particles into the stomach. Like dust or snuff.
