Candle jars? Yay or nay? The candles with poly seals I have a boat load of nufffers to keep wet
All that matters is air tight and out of light. Check the candle jars by using liquid and seeing if they leak when inverted.
better idea- because watertight doesnt mean airtight. use hot (i use boiled in my glass jars) water. put it in the jar to heat it up. dry it and cap it still warm. leave it awhile till cool and then open it next to your ear- if it was hot enough and the jar is airtight enough you should hear a slight sound as the air rushes into what was hopefully a slight vacuum.
The best way to keep your snuff fresh is to use it before it has a chance to go bad!
candle jars?? give a test with small quantity first
If that is what you have. I like wide mouth packer jars myself 2oz in cobalt blue. I do use candle jars for my pipe tobacco although when Hydrating pipe tobacco you don’t lose flavor .
@basement_shaman Is there a difference between the metal and plastic caps with regards to longevity of the flavor and product? Or is it just a matter of, “Get glass bottles/cars, cap doesn’t matter as much”?
I’d say, truly air-tight is what matters most. Those candle jars may be air tight, I can’t attest to them. But it’s really hard to test a ‘small quantity’. Even if your jar is air tight, if you only have a few pinches at the bottom, it’s going to lose a bit of moisture to the air in the jar. Personally, I use Ball brand glass canning jars with metal gasketed lids, and I will attest to these. I’ve got snuff years old as fresh as the day I bought it. Air tight. But I fill them up. They’re rarely filled partially. If I get 1/2 way through a jar, I decant to a smaller container.
