Last night I had a friend over who is an avid cigar enthusiast. Every so often we get together and have a few beers while enjoying a cigar or pipe. I had a tin of Thor’s Hammer on the table next to the ash tray and eventually he asks about the snuff and I start explaining it to him. Now at this point I’m assuming he is going to want to try it so I recommend that he try something other than the Viking because I wouldn’t consider that a “beginner” snuff. So I go get him some Bernard, Brasil thinking this will be easy to take and has a great flavor. I show him what to do and explain NOT to snort it like cocaine… What does he do? He snorts a pile of it so hard it probably ended up in his small intestines… Next thing I know he is holding his nose, eyes watering, yelling that his head is on fire and makes a mad dash for the bathroom. Of course… Like any good friend I was laughing my butt off the entire time and telling him he was an idiot because, thats what friends do. About 10 minutes later he has blown his nose about a dozen times and wants to try again. So again I explain the “plan” and this time he actually listens. A gentile sniff and he is good to go. Now he is sitting in the chair enjoying himself. Says his teeth are tingling a little bit and he likes it… About a minute later he picks up the tap box and tries a little bit more… We are sitting there talking for about five minutes and I notice he has black snot running out of his nose. I hand him the box of tissue and he wipes his nose. Then he wipes it again and then like an idiot he snorts… Back to the bathroom he runs with his head on fire. By now he has learned his lesson and returns to his seat and spends the next ten minutes saying that he liked the smell and flavor but he couldn’t do snuff because he is afraid to breath out of his nose… I try to tell him that it’s a learning process but I’m going to assume it’s probably too late for him. ;))
I have a friend that still snorts Dholakia White and he goes through it rather quickly. Some Men you just can’t reach https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1fuDDqU6n4o
@basement_shaman… made me laugh … been there tried that with the Dholakia White … Fiery fish dust it really is
i told my friend about snuff and showed how to take it. He tried all F&T range and some toques also the 6 photo line witout any issue. He likes snuff but prefers cigarettes. I agree, snuff is not for everyone.
Had I been thinking at the time I would have taken some video with my phone. At least he didn’t try to stick any in his mouth.
I am gonna say snuff is not for a lot of people. Its for people who have taste buds. Granted, some I can’t imagine sniffing myself. It just goes to show people can vary quite a bit in what their nose finds acceptable.
Yay I’m an exception. I will do any snuff any time. I was more picky about cigarettes than snuff. Put it all in a funnel into my nose!
Maybe leave the expensive ones out of the funnel. That is just wrong to me to mix Havana Toast with anything.
@basement_shaman That’s a good scene. I’m currently reading the book. Very good read thus far. I’ll have to watch the film afterwards as I haven’t seen it in years. And I agree, snuff isn’t for everyone and some people just never learn.
My older brother, who smokes cigs on the sly ( Shermans’s Havana Ovals), feels guilty about it. When he sees me pinching whatever snuff I happen to be carrying, he always wants a little pinch. He carefully puts it on the back of his hand, and snorts it like a line of coke, coughing and sneezing, and chocking, eyes watering. I’ve told him a hundred times how it to take snuff, yet he insists on ignoring me, and would never think of quitting the cigs, and just take snuff. I’ve also had other people take a tiny pinch of snuff from me, sneeze, cough, or make a stupid comment. Its the only way I enjoy tobacco anymore. In fact, yesterday someone gave me a real Cohiba, brought back from Havana, a little dry, but smokeable…What did I do? Put it in my coffee grinder and made about 25 grams of fantasticly decent, fresh Havana snuff, no flavorings, salt, anything. Just great tobacco. As someone here said before, " Food for the nose".
