Snuff in The States

O

Forgive me if its been done already…I saw the topic about where to buy snuff in the UK and thought wow what an awesome idea. What if we start one of U.S. retailers that have snuff, even if its only one brand and or type.Might help folks find some of this magical, elusive, beautiful powder. I will start…So far I have found 1. Dillsburg Tobacco Outlet Rt. 15 Dillsburg Pa. Last time there they had the following…W.E. Garrett Scotch,Buttercup Sweet,Bruton and several flavors of Silver Dollar. 2. Rt. 12 Smoke Shop,Rt. 12 Temple Pa. [Alsace Twp.] Navy Sweet,Buttercup Sweet and Garrett Peach Sweet. 3. Smoke Shop Rt. 309 Quakertown Pa. Navy Sweet and Garrett Peach Sweet. 4. Tobacco Outlet Oxford Valley rd. inside the Fairless Hills Shopping Center Fairless Hills Pa. Railroad Mills Sweet. 5.Tobacco Shop in the Quakertown Farmers Market in Quakertown Pa. Dental Scotch Unfortunately after months of stopping in at any place[my truck would easily fit] that looked as if it may have snuff this is all I have been able to come up with so far. I think this could possibly be an awesome resource if folks start posting local haunts around them or random places they come across while out and about.I travel extensively around Pa,NJ,De,Md and Va. Unfortunately when I do so Im in a large truck so I dont go to the trouble trying to find parking unless of course the place has a rather large lot so it would not surprise me to find that there could be many many places I have not found…and I want to know[and Id think a lot of folks would]where they are.So cmon folks…where are your go to places within the U.S. to get snuff?

H

I searched high and low throughout Northeastern IL and south eastern WI. I found a box of WE Garrett Scotch at Cheap Tobacco 719 Sheridan Rd Winthrop Harbor, IL And a box of way over priced WE Garrett Sweet and a few small tins of WoS with no names on them. Just like Vics Vapor Rub. These are at a cigarette place off I 94 and Townline rd (rt 60). All the Cigar places seem to have disappeared too. I do have an email into the regional marketing guy from Swisher, he offered to help but haven’t heard back yet.

O

Major score today on American Scotches. After hearing them mentioned several times here in different posts I stopped into a Food Lion, specifically the one at 720 King st. in Leesburg Va. They have Navy Sweet,Railroad Mills Sweet,Society Sweet,Square and Superior in the 30 gram tins and also have value[bulk] in all of the above plus several more. Cant recall all of them off the top of my head.Im already into a can of Superior and man is it good.

H

I can always only find Sweets at Food Lion, except one time I found a huge tin of Bruton but it is hopelessly stale.

O

I was surprised at how many bulk tins they had. They did have Bruton and Peach Sweet and all the others that I mentioned in both 30 gram as well as the bulk, plus a few others I cant remember them all. Im curious, how do you tell that an American Scotch is stale? Seriously they are most bone dry to the point of being dusty and since there arent scent so to speak added to them that would fade.I tend to think they would be perfect snuffs to buy massive amounts of bulk because I feel like they would keep forever.Perhaps Im wrong and Id love input on this as I was planning on buying one of every bulk they had but it would take me probably 10 years or better to go through all of it.

B

Cole tobacco on high street in Pottstown Pa carry’s silver dollar and navy sweet

O

Nice, thats one close by for me.

B

really? I seriousily think PA contains a large percentage of list memebers. Must be something in the water that makes a man crave snuff.

O

Yeah it probably originates from the Limerick nuclear plant

B

no that explains all the people with tails.

B

no that explains all the people with tails.

That’s more tail for me, We also Glow in the Dark

O

I wouldnt worry too much about the tail, but I think if your glowing in the dark you may want to seek medical attention…or at the very least move.

They just lose their scent of tobacco and smoke. I’d suspect it takes a lot longer to happen. My Bruton just smells very faintly, compared to a fresh tin of Garrett which has a very strong scent.

O

Gotchya,I have picked up some cans that looked as if they were there for years judging from the amount of dust on the lids and have still found the product inside to be quite good, and have a very nice smokey smell so Im going to assume bulking up on Americans is not at all a bad idea.Only issue I can see is maybe if you get a can that is already several years old and plan to keep it for several years on top of that.Either way they are really quite affordable so I think Im going to take my chances and go for it. Funny thing is I didnt care much for Americans[except for the nic content]at first but I really appreciate them now.I have gone back to ones I had dismissed for one reason or another and suddenly I enjoy them now.Go figure…guess Im maturing as a snuffer

H

Yeah I think it’s the loose tins that lose their freshness, the Bruton’s I have that’s so stale has a rather loose metal lid, I’d bet tins that are well-sealed could keep for a very very very long time.

X

They’re gradually shifting over to all plastic containers. Those appear to retain freshness longer than the cardboard or metal. There are two options that will increase your chances of preservation. One is to tape around the seam of the plastic where the lid meets the can. Second option is to decant them into containers that you know to be airtight, such as canning jars.

O

Yes it seems the majority of what I have found now comes in the plastic.I think I will stick to buying only bulks that are packaged this way.

O

Couple new finds this week. Smoke Shop Rt. 413 Bristol Pa. Tube Rose,Buttercup Sweet,Navy Sweet and R.R. Mills Sweet Crown Discount Bristol Pike Bristol Pa. Ralphs and Peach Sweet 24/7 Food Mart and Tobacco Bristol Pike Bristol Pa. R.R. Sweet and Buttercup Have some of the Tube Rose in my nose rite now[one I didnt yet have] and its quite nice >:D<

M

Tube Rose is one of my favorites

E

@outlawmobile Thanks for that info. If I ever find myself around Bristol, PA I’l lhave to stop in and try the Ralphs. The rest of those and more I can get at a store a little over a mile from me. Think I’ll grab some peach right now that you got me thinking about it.

O

Tube Rose is one of my favorites

Tried the Tube Rose last nite and its quite good.Definately a bit different than the other sweets I have had.

The Ralphs is really top notch, very similar to Square which is one of my favorites.

H

In Chicago, Iwan Ries on Wabash has 5 or 6 different WoS tins (Kendal Brown, SG, Irish Toast 22, etc) and some assorted tap boxes. They are all behind the counter and must be requested.

K

@outlawmobile I live in Lancaster and I was at the tobacco palace in the Park City Mall the other day, they had both navy’s, Garrets, and a bunch of silver dollars. The guy behind the counter said they sell a lot of nasal snuff. REALLY surprised me.

i will have to stop in there next time Im out that way.Regular Navy is something I dont have in the collection yet.I really enjoy the sweet so Im sure the regular will be rite up my alley.I have gotten such a taste for the Americans…I cant seem to get enough of them.

W

If anyone lives in the state of Texas, I can tell you now not to bother looking for snuff. The only two available are Garretts Sweet and Garretts Scotch. According to the Swisher rep I spoke with the state of Texas charges $1.20US on each ounce of powdered snuff. This along with very little demand for the product(dip is king in the Lone Star State) means that the snuff fan will starve here.

T

$1.20 per ounce? That’s cheap, if snuff was even available in Canada you’d be paying $6.03 per ounce. Then there would be duty and another tax on top of that.

N

O

Do you have Food Lion grocery stores in that area? They are generally a good place to find a nice selection of American snuffs.

Haven’t checked it out yet but “squid and you” says this place in Springfield, Mo carries stuff from Mr Snuff:http://www.thealbatrosshookahlounge.com/ and Just for Him has a small selection:http://www.justforhim.com/catalog/. Anyone know where else in Missouri I could find a few tins? I am in Columbia.

J

A couple of years ago the walmart in cedarbrook plaza off of w cheltenham ave in the Cheltenham/Wyncote/ Ivy hill pa(if you go south on 309 towards North Philly get off at easton rd and hang a right walmart will be on your left) area carried square and an other scotch brand i can’t remember that was the first place I ever bought snuff. The Tobacco Center in williamsport, pa carries a limited selection of scotch and sweet. navy, sweet peach and garett sweet if I recall.

S

The Albatross is Mr. Nose’s shop. Last time I was through Springfield I got a chance to introduce myself. He probably has the best selection of snuff in the USA. Based on what I have seen and what I have heard on this site. He has a wide selection of Samuel Gawith, WIlson’s and the Toque American line. Seems like there was some GH and F&T as well. Just for Him has mainly the Toque line. Maybe a little of Wilson’s. Both have a good selection of pipe tobacco. The Albatross has is a hookah bar so naturally it has a lot of that. Both are nice shops but The Albatross can not be touched on the snuff selection.

S

60 miles South of Springfield in Branson, MO there is the Tobacco Pouch. Square, both Garrett’s, Silver Dollar various and McC S’nuff. Also have the full line of General snus here, ecigs, eliquid and batteries.

Z

I live in East-Central Florida, and I’m lucky if I can find ANY snuff at all. If I do, it’s usually at Winn-Dixie grocery and it’s probably Navy Plain or RR Mills Sweet. I don’t even bother, prefering to order on-line.

If you’re in Brevard, specifically Merritt Island area, at Smokerings in the mall they carry Silver Dollar cherry, vanilla, spearmint and wintergreen. All for a decent price.

P

@Beefy That’s good to know. I’m in Melbourne, I was going to start hitting the local smoke shops to take a look.

B

If you’re going by Smoke Rings let me know, I’ll gladly come smoke a stogie and hang out.

P

I don’t smoke anymore, but I may drop by to check out the SD they carry. I see they have coffee to, It’s difficult for me to turn down a cup of coffee.

B

Uniontown PA at tightwad tobacco picked up silver dollar original and blueberry. Also at a smoke shop named Smoke Stack in Moon township near Pittsburg airport I picked up some Toques black cherry, spearmint, citrus, lime, and two Silver Dollars spearmint, apricot.

J

@Z_2K Indiantown. Grocery best selection ever. 10+ kinds. If you dare to go to Indiantown.

C

@Beefy Thanks for the heads up. I’m in Orlando, next time I’m in Melbourne I’ll check it out. @jpsavage: That’s a drive!

J

@cstokes4 Yes, a bit of a drive but they used to have the largest selection of American snuffs I have ever seen. Attributed, I believe, to the large amount of South Americans who work the orange groves. Believe it is Rines Market by Family Dollar. If you go, stop by the Seminole Inn http://www.seminoleinn.com/. A wonderful piece of FL history that is very well preserved. Great place to eat or stay. Took up residence there while working at the P&W rocket shop before moving to Jupiter.

I’m currently in Springfield Missouri (from Springfield Illinois, funnily enough, lol), along with the wife while she is doing a trial period for a management position at a job here. Last time I went with her for the same reason to Indiana (Terre Haute) and I had a week to explore. That time I located Toque USA. Doing a search on the forum for Springfield brought me to this thread, and I’m oh so happy that I did. This store (The Albatross) looks like its less then 10 minutes away from our hotel. I have not gone yet (we just got in town tonight) but I plan on checking it out tomorrow after I drop the wife off at work! I CANT WAIT!!! just found a video for the place: Redirecting...

H

Sellers of snuff in the USA are few and far between. Even then it’s mostly American Snuffs. You will mostly find in in the south and in areas where there is a lot of mining (especially coal mining.)

A

Just got back from both The Albatross. Effing AWESOME! Met Mr. Nose, and he was very helpful. He could tell me all about the types and flavors he had in detail right off the top of his head. I questioned him about a variety of british snuff brands that I had not yet tried for about 25 minutes and he seemed quite happy to talk about them all. my only complaint is that I did not budget enough money on my trip to buy one of everything I wanted, lol! I will have to go back and get a few more tins from him after I read up more in depth about the brands he carries. It looked like he had a good selection of Toque USA, Kendal, Wilsons of Sharrow, and Gawith Hoggarth brands. he also had a few varieties of Bernards, Fribourg & Treyer and Poschal. There was one or two more British brands he had just one variety of also. Over all, QUITE the variety! I would HIGHLY recommend stopping by his awesome store if you are ever around the area as I was (Once again, :Springfield Missouri)! Also checked out Just For Him, Although it was a nice store, the only snuff they had was Toque USA (still awesome that they carry it!). I DID manage to score a tin of some Jakobson’s Snus from them though, lol! I didn’t know they even sold that state side!

A

Also found in Springfield Missouri: - Doc Johnsons’s Tobacco World - Carries most of the Silver Dollar and strangely enough, just one Toque USA (Whiskey & Honey) Best prices I have seen for either so far! (3.15 USD, pre tax) Also saw some WE Garret there.

N

My B&M (Pipe and Tobacco) in Little Rock, AR carries Sliver Dollar and just received a box of WoS Dr. Rumney (Yes, the stuff that doesn’t exist :)) ). I’m trying to get them to carry more but I’m the only snuffer in the place so far.

C

If theres anyone in South Carolina, I found two places that carry Poschl snuffs. Not my fav by any stretch but better than nothing! The Tinderbox Broadway at the beach Myrtle Beach SC The Zen House Rivers Ave North Charleston, SC Also, all the Food Lion grocery stores carry various American snuffs like Tube Rose, etc. Ive even seen Stonewall hard snuffs there!

Y

Hey outlawmobile. I saw that you were in dillsburg which is super close to Gettysburg. Stop at Gettysburg cigar which is like 3 miles off route 15 and they have a HUGE parking lot for tour buses right in front. They a ton of wilsons and all of the silver dollar flavors. Check it out! The owner buys his stuff regularly so no rotten tins should be bought.

Y

And make sure you go to Gettysburg cigar not Union Cigar.

C

Several smoke shops in Tucson, Arizona carry Silver Dollar nice variety of flavors. The Moon Smoke Shop on 4th Ave carrys for sure as well as grant and stone store. Also a smoke shop in Flagstaff, Arizona but i forgot the name west side of town and again Silver Dollar good selection. both towns were around $3.50 for 5g round tap tins. well that’s my big location donation…hee hee almost a poet.

S

Santa Fe Stag, does also carry snuff…

The Santa Fe location has Siver Dollar, McChrystals, WoS, and a few others. They also have a couple of WoS and F&T on bulk. The bulks are pretty dried out, but with a little distilled water they come back.

S

Allsups in Tucumcari NM has WE Garrret I used to know this old guy out there who used to dip the snuff, I guess a lot of people out this way still do.

G

If ever in my hometown of Statesville NC (45 min north of charlotte) JR Superstore-- most all American Scotches available. Food Lion also carries tons and tons.

C

@Spice8 what in allsups really? that’s crazy! I don’t know how many i stopped at on the way home and i never thought to look hah. i love their fried burritos lol not the best but good road eats. thanks for the heads up. what region are you in so i know where to stop around next time i go visit my brother

N

Allegheny Smokeworks in Blawnox, PA (near Pittsburgh) carries all Silver Dollar flavors and looking to expand. Also good pipe (new and estate) inventory. Owner and patrons also very nice and helpful

J

I started a public spreadsheet of local vendors of the World. I’ll add all the stores mentioned here on this thread (if can find them). The address is: http://goo.gl/IUyqoY (see the tabs for different regions of the World on the bottom of the document – I’ll add more continents if the “Rest of The World” gets crowded.) It’s currently in a read-only mode so it won’t get vandalized. I will gladly add new vendors if you can list the shop’s name, address and the snuff variety available. Post the info here on this thread or mail me directly to me at: snuffvendorsofheworld@gmail.com So, please, if you know any places that sell snuff, let me know of their info and I’ll add it to the list. Cheers!

H

On rare occasions I’ve found a few foil containers (1 g) of assorted Indian snuffs (such as Dholakia Sparrow) at: The India House Store in Rochester, NY http://indiahouse.com/retail.html With encouragement they might be persuaded to increase their stock and variety!

@outlawmobile How much gram you got with one “bulk” package ? I am curious.

O

The bulks are 4.65 oz. where the small ones are 1.15 oz. I believe that makes the bulks around 120 ounces give or take.

Now i have to ask some online calculator to get how much gram these are. Anyway, thanks for the info.

X

I think he meant 4.65 oz is about 120 grams

P

That would be quite a nice “hill” of it - even if i use it orally.

O

I think he meant 4.65 oz is about 120 grams

Yes sorry I did mean to say 120 grams. I really shouldn’t post when my attention is split between the tv and the computer.

S

I’ve found two shops in Omaha, in the off chance anyone here gets stuck in Nebraska. SG Roi down in the Old Market had some Silver Dollar Raspberry, and Ted’s Tobacco had Wos Cherry Menthol, Dr Rumney’s, and Apricot. There are a few other places in town that might be worth checking out, will post again if I find anything

S

Stumbled across this place today with a decent selection… most I’ve seen in one Central Florida store yet: City Discount Beverage & Smoke 370 E Main St Apopka, FL 32703 Dental Plain, Dental Sweet, Carhart Choice Sweet, Buttercup, Honey Bee, Tube Rose, Railroad Mills Sweet, Navy Sweet, W.E. Garrett Plain, Bruton, and the clerk said they normally have Square, but were out.

M

Does anyone know any online stores I the states that sell European brands, Mr. Snuff is great it just takes a while to get stuff.

J

@Southern_Snuffster, Thanks, added this to the list.

lil’ Brown Smoke Shack has a few Wilsons. Check to see if they ship to your state: http://www.lilbrown.com/t-shipping.aspx

@ mouse, thanks but I live in one of those accessory states.

S

Great tobacco shop I go to once a week is Garcia’s tobacco shop. Address is 97 Church St. Burlington, Vermont 05401. Telephone # (802) 658-5737. They carry all silver dollars snuff and Toque USA range. I know they also do mail order through the phone. They also carry great selection of pipes and pipe tobacco and cigars

R

The home of @chefdaniel‌ Im sure you can buy snuff there.

J

Garcia’s added to the list.

R

On a whim, I went to my local Smoke Shop (Chesterton, IN) to see if they carried nasal snuff. The middle aged lady behind the counter went to the back room and produced an old wooden box covered with dust. When she opened the lid, there were 2 tins, one Bruton Scotch and one W.E. Garrett Scotch. Since my latest Mr. Snuff order hadn’t arrived yet, I snatched them up. Who knows how long they were in that box. Dry, but tasty, and I had my fix.

R

We can all thank the Obama Administration for the PACT Act (Prevent All Cigarette Trafficking), signed into law August 25, 2010, which prevents the internet or mail order purchase of all tobacco products (except cigars) within the United States. Another example of our government telling us what is best for us.

C

@roadking‌ Unfortunately, we ain’t seen nothin’ yet. These bastids (on both sides of the aisle) are turning into the worst form of tyrant: Eliminating our freedom and liberty because they know better than we “what’s good for us”. In the meantime, enjoy life, hoover up snuff like there’s none to be had tomorrow. It might be true.

I am not a fan of the current administration, but something like 98 Senators and 90% of the House voted “Yea” on PACT and the FDA regulation. So there are more guilty parties than just the President. The FDA regulating tobacco is more of a reason why more B&M’s don’t carry European snuffs than PACT. Most manufacturers don’t want to deal with the FDA costs or paperwork. Toque being the single exception.

S

Have successfully ordered some Indian snuff from Hookah1.com out of Chicago with no probs. Think he takes Paypal. He has Sugh Rose, Paanch Himalayan, & 1 other in bulk at a decent price. Only site I have ever found to ship from the states. :bz

I’ve been meaning to start a new thread about an important related topic. I’m not sure how many snus users know the FDA is accepting public comments for the 100,000 plus page Swedish Match application requesting the FDA approve removal of the false cancer warning labels on USA snus cans. If approved it would pave the way for more snus manufacturers to apply for FDA sales approval. Swedish Match literally spent millions of dollars on their application with hundreds of man hours spent on scientific research and studies to prove why this would not harm the public as a whole and not only help current smokers among other requirements. I believe many companies including BT are waiting to see which way the FDA goes with their application before they also spend millions of dollars to apply to the FDA for sales approval. If Swedish Match doesn’t get approval no other snus manufacturer is going to try again in our lifetime. Imagine a smoker being told snus is less harmful than smoking. They go to a store to buy snus and they see the oral cancer warning labels on the cans. If it were me I’d say to hell with that and keep right on smoking. During the public commenting period on the FDA regulations website all one needs to do is tell their personal snus story or the story of friend, family member, or loved one who switched from smoking to snus. Swedish Match has done all the heavy lifting so all that’s needed are a couple paragraphs about why snus is important to them. Some time ago the FDA was going to ban menthol in cigarettes but there was such a huge public outcry with over 250,000 comments from the public the FDA scrapped the ban. So, it really does make a difference if people comment. Now that e-cigs are a 2.5 billion dollar industry and e-cig sales are expected to overtake cigarettes within a decade, a war is being waged against the e-cig industry, and the spotlight is on “Public Health”, local, and state governments, and elected officials who are more concerned about lost “sin” tax revenue, and the millions of dollars every state receives each year from The Tobacco Settlement Act of 1998. Less cigarette sales means less money for the states, made much worse because states have already borrowed heavily against future money they expected to receive from cigarette sales and The Tobacco Settlement Act. Even the public that hates Big Tobacco can’t help but notice something isn’t right about the anti-tobacco extremists tactics against e-cigs. Sorry for the rant. I only want all smokers to have the same options I have. Hell, I didn’t even know snuff existed until 6 weeks ago and I smoked for over 30 years! Here’s the link to the FDA regulations website for posting public comments. (The public isn’t allowed to read the comments). http://www.regulations.gov/#!submitComment;D=FDA-2014-N-1051-0001 Here’s more background info about Swedish Matches application and what it means to snus users and all users of alternative tobacco products. http://snuscentral.org/snus-news/mr-unz-reports/item/638-super-sized-swedish-snus-stores-coming-to-the-us Also, it is my understanding anyone from around the world can comment on the FDA regulations website. At least that’s the way it worked during the most recent commenting period for e-cig and new cigar regulations. (closed now). Also it’s fine to write multiple comments as long as they don’t say the same thing. The more comments the better! Thanks for reading this far.

S

I did it. It is simple to complete. Good luck Swedish Match… :bz

@Snuffysmiff, Yay! Do you think the info about the FDA public commenting period for snus is well known by snus users? Or would it be best to post this info elsewhere, too? (shortened version minus my rant).

Have successfully ordered some Indian snuff from Hookah1.com out of Chicago with no probs. Think he takes Paypal. He has Sugh Rose, Paanch Himalayan, & 1 other in bulk at a decent price. Only site I have ever found to ship from the states. :bz

@Snuffysmiff, did you already post this in the list for online snuff stores? "Er, I don’t have the thread link now while I’m replying. Hang on let me get it just in case…http://snuffhouse.org/discussion/7623/how-many-internet-snuff-shops-do-you-know-of#latest This is the one. Guess I could have first checked to see if it was already listed. Oh well. I’ve come this far.

Silver Dollar, Toque USA in Steamboat Spgs, Colorado @ Smoker Friendly in Central Park Plaza, if anyone likes to ski here.

S

Smoker Friendly in Missoula Montana now carries both Silver Dollar and Toque USA. Total of 13 varieties. Have been waiting a long time…

J

Added the two Smoker Friendly location to my list.

Don’t think many snussers know about this. Maybe in Sweden cuz snus is pretty important to them (economically too)…

All the snus forums and blogs have been trying to get the word out. Unfortunately, I’m sure many snus users don’t read those.

M

My B&M (Pipe and Tobacco) in Little Rock, AR carries Sliver Dollar and just received a box of WoS Dr. Rumney (Yes, the stuff that doesn’t exist :)) ). I’m trying to get them to carry more but I’m the only snuffer in the place so far.

Funny enough, I went in there earlier this week, and I got the Wos dr rumney, and some silver dollar. I would love to get some more wos in stock.

S

About snuff in the states I remember a Lucky Luke comic book about the mother of the Dalton brothers. the lady takes a sharp sniff a few times in the album and her sons want to buy her a snuff box. these comics are very realistic when it comes to the history of the Wild West, at about 1880, the men seem to chew and spit but the ladies snuffed.

P

King Tobacco in Escondido, CA. I called them this morning after seeing they carry Silver Dollar. They also carry W.E. Garrett Scotch Snuff. I picked up some W.E. Garret for shits and giggles. Owner is really nice and said he’d order some Cola flavor for me. They have about 6 different Silver Dollar flavors.

N

Anybody find any good source for snuff in or around Seattle?? American or others are I SO. Thanks.

O

Im going to shop at The Albatross in Springfield, Mo tomorrow! They are supposed to be home to the largest snuff selection in Missouri. I can’t wait to see what they have and try not to buy one of everything;)

H

If ever in my hometown of Statesville NC (45 min north of charlotte) JR Superstore-- most all American Scotches available. Food Lion also carries tons and tons.

Just outside of salisbury here, howdy almost neighbor! If you ever get up to the mall in Asheville there’s a store called pipes ltd. They carry silver dollar and toque usa.

B

@hgrissom your shouting to the deaf:quoting someone does not get their attention ; On top of that general_desaix has not been active for some time. You may want to personal message him and strike his interest to come back to your forum. Tell him that I am still waiting on that book he promised me.

P

ditto on the book

H

@basement_shaman sorry about that, technology isn’t my forte. So the only way to make sure someone sees it is to use the @ ? Well my point about the store in Asheville stands. What book?

B

@hgrissom it was a child’s fairy tale

I asked a local head shop that sells cigars and marijuana pipes, bongs, etc. in my Colorado town if he could order snuff and he agreed. He now stocks Silver Dollar, Toque USA, but only Spanish Brandy and Peach. He tells me a few 20-something people buy it, but other than that, just me. Seems strange to me…and the local Kum and Go carries all the General Snus in a General Snus brand reefer-igerator. But they mostly sell Copehagen and other more 'cowboy" types of chew, here in ranch/ski country. One little gas station about 20 miles north of here used to carry Garrett Scotch, but I cleaned them out and now they don’t sell it. The western US is NOT snuff country. Thank God for the internet and Mr. Snuff, Toque, Old Mill, and Hookah One( for bulk Indian snuff).

N

Agree!! The west is dry as dust for snuffs. Millions of micro beers, but no snuff to be found as I have been to several pipe and smoke shops and most have not even heard of nasal snuff. All they say is we have Copenhagen snuff. Can’t even find the American snuff anymore!!

M

Yeah, in Colorado, at least where I live, in the Yampa Valley, the main snuff is dip. As I mentioned, Smoker Friendly carries Silver Dollar and Toque USA, but when I asked the owner about ordering some American snuff, like RR Mills, Garrett, etc, she just said that she didn’t want to order something that no one would buy. I said that I’d buy it for sure. She just looked at me like I was being a pain in the ass and walked away to help somebody buying those horrible, generic cigarettes that seem to smell like burning trash. Not to offend anyone here, but I find those things horrible. I don’t smoke cigs anymore, maybe thats why the smell bothers me. I dunno. I like the smell of Sherman Havana Ovals( my brother smokes those), and good cigars, and shisha.

If anyone is interested, L.J Peretti in Boston carries Willson of Sharrow snuff, and their pipe tobacco blends are phenomenal. They ship all over the country as well. I placed an order just the other day for a 1/2 lb of pipe tobacco and a few can’s of HD #22. Since they already carry WOS, I wonder if they also have access to F&T? I believer they are made by the same company. Aside from that the only snuffs that i’ve been able to find carried locally have been american scotches, which I like, but not nearly as much as the stuff from over seas. Hope this helps. -Matt

H

@RainDog I just looked through their site and couldn’t find any snuff. Do you have a link?

N

In Grand Junction CO. “Rem’s Place” pipe and tobacco store has silver dollar, toque USA, three types of dean swift, and six or eight kinds of WoS including dr. Rumney’s. The Smoker friendly in Fruita CO has toque, silver dollar and some American scotches, dental sweet and Garret’s for sure. The store in Hotchkiss CO (there’s only one) is said to stock poschle snuff of some kind for a local cowboy and I think the smoker friendly in Craig,CO has some too, probably toque and or silver dollar. I’m all over western CO for work and I’ll post more as I come across it, the basques that came back in the day to herd sheep seemed to like it I’ve heard, and the Cowboys and coal miners too.

R

Frontier tobacco in Wickenburg Arizona has a few Garrett snuffs in stock.

S

Ohh, man!  I live in Grand Junction.  Unfortunately it’s Grand Junction, Michigan, where there is a whole lot of nothing.

L

For local snuff artisans, I highly recommend Old Mill in Tennessee and Gadsden in Michigan. Truly superb snuffs and they’re both great guys.

S

I’ll have to try that Michigander snuff!

J

I dont know if it was mentioned here but L.J. Perettis, a very traditional tobacco seller here in Boston - MA sells some WoS. Very small selection though. Usually 4 or 5 different flavors in medium tins. The price is not bad, $5 for each but I dont know if they ship snuff or not.

Since I’ve been in Atlanta GA, the grocery store at 1257 Moreland Ave SE has snuff. The store name is currently Piggly Wiggly, but used to be Super IGA.  They have an entire 6’ x 3’ cabinet at the front of the store filled with many different brands of scotch snuffs. Kind of a very different place from Publix, but they do have the snuff. Enjoy.

C

There is a store here in Lexington nc that carries both large and small tins of about 10 different American scotches

F

For anyone in South Carolina, Bi-Lo has a decent selection. Off the top of my head I know they have Peach, Tube Rose, Square, Honey Bee, Society, Carhartt, Superior, Bruton, Checkerberry, Navy (both plain and sweet), and Railroad Mills (plain and sweet). Hope this helps.

P

I found another place in Flagstaff AZ that sells snuff. Smokers outpost on woodland village it is in the same shopping center as Walmart. They sell silver dollar and WE Garrett snuff. The other place in Flagstaff is Mr smokes and they only sell we garrett sweet. In Phoenix AZ a place called Ye Olde pipe and tobacco as well as stag tobaccos carry an assortment of silver dollar snuff.

S

Food Lion in Hopinsville, Ky has railroad mills sweet, tube rose, honey bee, society, square, superior, tops, we garrett and bruton. Phew! After a month of shopping around. I’ve finally found the gold mine!

L

Winston61, you are right about Hard to find variety in Texas. I got a local cigar bar to start carrying WOS for me. Got to where I had to get them to keep a couple in back room with my name on it. Someone else was enjoying my snuff. Anyway, now they aren’t getting it anymore and ordering guy is never there to explain why.

P

While browsing the Web, I came across a website for a chain of stores in North and South Carolina called A2Z cash and carry. They looked to have a pretty good selection of scotch snuff. There were a total of 4 pages when you searched for snuff. Not sure if they mail it.
