Since a year or two my local neighbourhood-tobacconist stocks some snuff. Poschl boxes, Ozona president, Gawith Apricot. I also saw the same presentation in a store a town away. Seems some kind of marketing-project of Poschl to supply all tobacconists with this. We all here seem to buy our snuffs online. Are you supporting your local shops that stock snuff? Even if you don’t have them as favourites? To make sure it stays in their assortment… just in case the internet gets a major fall-out!
My local tobacconist stocks cigars, wine, $75 pipes, and a small assortment of the usual bulk pipe tobacco. There are plenty of head shops nearby, and some cigarette stores (one of which stocks better pipe tobacco than my local). No place nearby, including but not limited to grocery stores, stocks snuff. If I didn’t have an online vendor, I wouldn’t have snuff.
Snuff is nowhere to be found around me. There was a shop about 2 hours drive from me that sold McChrystal’s SP for like $20 a tin but their online store has shown it as out of stock for months. If it was available locally and at a decent price I would buy some here.
The Black Swanne Shoppe in Scarborough sells a good variety of snuffs and will try and get anything I ask for. Bought a tin of WoS Super Menthol from them today. A shocking 5 min walk from my front door!
a ten-minute walk to lay my hands on some poschl, J&H Wilson, and WoS.
I can get poschl snuffs at the big mall in tocksfors (speical o that I dont have on my phone), in Sweden. I almost bought all they had some years ago. @Talljim whats the super menthol like compared to wos extra menthol? Like menthol strength etc…
Whenever I find a shop selling snuff I will buy some just to show that there is a demand and to support the few B&Ms we have. So far that includes the Segar & Snuff Parlour in Covent Garden, Shave & Coster in Reading, Smokers Paradise in Threadneedle Street and Tranters in Oxford - I wish there were more.
@rogue Not tried the extra menthol, but as they stock it, I’ll buy a tin tomorrow and let you know.
@talljim lovely thanks.
I take it back. They don’t have it. I’ll have to ask for it…
I must be the most lucky guy here, since my local tabacconist sells around 50 different snuffs. And it’s not even the best stocked shop I have ever seen. Poland.
I checked the big Indian grocery, but no dice. They had all sorts of prepackaged betel nut and chewing tobacco, but no snuff. They did have a simple but extremely good little eat shop there, so it wasn’t a wasted trip. So, the last time I saw snuff in a shop was 35 years ago, in Melbourne, Australia.
Gauntleys of nottingham are phasing out snuff, since GQ left. I still buy from their slowly dwindling supply very occasionally (most recently vac sealed tins of j&h wilson SP no.1). It’s the only b&m in the whole city that sells snuff, while e-cig shops keep popping up.
The local RYO shop “used” to carry Silver Dollar. That was what got me started on snuff. They seem to have discontinued it. Now I just go there for Carter Hall, beer, and General snus.
We have 1,000’s of B&M shops in the states and only a handful in the UK. Every UK shop we try to take snuff tells us there is no demand. I wish we could help our UK customers but unless the shops get asked for Toque or Silver Dollar I’m afraid your stuck with mail order.
When I was stateside I found two shops in California that stocked Toque and Silver Dollar. All small tins but in stock nonetheless. I spoke with the manager of one shop and provided both the names of several online retailers and the URL for this fine forum.
Stores sell snuff? Not 'round here they don’t.
The independent tobacconist in Harrogate (Barkers) stocks a small selection of WoS, McChrystal’s O&G, J&HW S.P.No1 and Top Mill. I get O&G and Top Mill from them, but I get the WoS direct because it’s fresher, and Barkers don’t stock my two staples, Jockey Club and Tom Buck.
I buy my Schmalzlers mostly over the counter. I kind of like the feeling of it. And the fact I don’t have to wait (even though the orders I make over internet take about a day to arrive). The thing here is that you can find only domestic snuffs, meaning mostly Pöschl and sometimes Bernard. Very rarely Sternecker. Plus the small fish like Braniff, which do not interest me.
Nobody around me sells it. I can’t even get my local Indian store to stock 6 Photo.
Here in Ontario you’ll be lucky to find a 5 year old can of Mc Chrystals in a tobacco shop. No one buys it.
