I’ve just come across this site Snuff Etiquette just thought I would pas it on.
I’m glad that someone went through the trouble to put that all in one place. I have read some little tid bits. Favorite line: “without grimace or distortion of the features”
I love the idea of a double barreld snuff pistol, shooting an entire days worth of snuff up your nose with a small explosive charge! What kind of evil genius would come up with such an invention! Can you imagine the poor bloke who tested it? He must’ve had some b*ll*cks to do that!
I feel these are very old customs and do not apply very well to modern life. Nice walk through time though.
Well, yes and no. I think that a little old world charm wouldn’t go amiss in this shallow and unpleasant world.
I have no one to share my snuff box with, I never wear a jacket with inner pockets, I only possess wooden snuff boxes and I have no flare. I feel like a failure as far as snuffing is concerned. But…I do have a LOT of snuff, must be enough to last me for 24 months. What should I do?
Snuff It lol!
“To take snuff, people of noble birth were meant to tap on the lid, take a few grains with the tip of their slender fingers, to make a slight gesture and to inhale the powder with ecstasy. On the contrary, the countryman digged his thumb and forefinger inside the snuff box in order to take out a large pinch of tobacco, putting it on the back of his left hand and snorted it in a noisy way while rubbing his nose.” From : The Art of Snuff Taking “The true snuff-taker who is bold in his propensities always has a large wooden snuff-box, which he opens with a crash, and which he flourishes about him with an air of satisfaction and pride. He takes a pinch with three fingers, and then bringing the whole upon his thumb, he sniffs it up with that lusty pleasure with which a rustic smacks a kiss upon the round and ruddy cheek of his sweetheart.” From: The Smoker’s Guide… by Andrew Steinmetz pp.162-163
Well you can’t take me there, I never use sites that look dodgy, lol…
I’m British and we still have some traditions.
What are you on about, Snuff Head?
Well, I guess I am a simple countryman. lol
