Has anyone got a snuff box which they put their favourite snuffs in to carry around with them all day? If so do you think its a worthwhile investment? Im a newbie here and to snuff in general and I’m caught in 2 minds as to whether it would be a wise purchase or not… The ones at the snuffstore look impressive but are fairly expensive at £17 ish, would you say its worth it? Sorry if this has been asked before (i did have a quick look through the archives).
so far i am more than content to carry it right in the container i bought it in, i will probably be buying one sooner or later though as i have plans to buy some snuff in bulk. also some of the containers that force you to use the back of the hand method i might pour into a snuff box after i get one as i prefer to pinch. One thing about carrying it in the original tin though is that it’s kind of a good way to advertise about snuff if your so inclined to do so.
Buy a “Patrick” box, they are well made and not so expensive. Whisper onefortheroad for details.
Patrick’s boxes are legendary, well made and hold enough snuff for a day’s use. They are the same boxes that are sold at snuffstore. They are cheaper buying from Patrick direct though. As Pieter says whisper onefortheroad. Stefan
I jut ordered one of Patrick’s boxes. Should be here any day. This will be my first snuff box. Unless you have your heart set on a fancy silver or pewter one, go with a nice wood one. Patrick’s are very inexpensive. Look in past threads for “snuff box” and you will find pictures. He only had 4 styles left when I ordered. He was working on new ones at the time. Should be available any day now. I would definitley contact him. His handle is onefortheroad. Are you in the US, oaxaca? Or Mexico, by the sound of your name? Someplace else?
Snuff just seems better out of a nice box. It brings you back to the good old days of snuff when it wasn’t uncommon to see someone pull out a box and take a pinch.
A box is essential, easily half the pleasure for me is snuffing from a nice box.
I still use my Sharrow box. I’m really itching to have a nice antique box, but the prices are sky high. I saw a Silver box on ebay for $20. It had a dog’s face on the lid, very nice. I’m just worried that it will leak out, I’m not very trusting of the “pill boxes” that are also labeled as snuff boxes.
I saw a very nice antique box in town for $60. Almost bought it, glad I didn’t. Just go this on ebay for $30:Snuff Box
Would you say a 30 mm wide 12 mm tall circular snuff box is big enough for everyday practical use??
Likewise would anyone say a 8cm wide x 3cm high snuff box is too large??..and would an interior lined with velvet, as opposed to bare metal, be a bad thing?? Thanks very much!!!

I would think the velvet would grab your snuff and hold it. It would then contaminate the next snuff you put it. You’d also likely get fabric dust or fibers mixed into your snuff. The first size you mention seems a bit small, it reminds me of a smash box, sold at some of the online vendors except taller and narrower. The second one seems kind of big, unless its a desktop box. Have you looked at Patrick Collins (onefortheroad)? His are the perfect size.
I have some new boxes on the site from Patrick. I have to say, they look great. Tom
oaxoca, 30x12mm would be fine for a daily box if your not a heavy snuffer. Wouldn’t be enough for me personally if I only carried one box for all day. But I’m more of a heavy user. The 8x3cm does take up a lot of real-estate in the pocket but its not too large as long as you don’t wear skin tight pants. I have a 9cm L x 2cm H x 4.7cm Width box that I do carry on occasion. Its fine if I’m wearing looser pants. The one your describing is very close to the size of the Wilsons of Sharrow wood boxes. I do agree that a velvet lined would be a bad idea.
Good deal Tom, as I saw you were sold out for awhile. I also just damaged my own, which I posted in a different thread. So maybe I’m in the market again.
Thanks Tom for restocking. I have wanted a zebra wood one for a while now. I will put in an order next week when I get paid.
