Snuff box lids - sliding v hinge

Ive noticed that all the new snuff boxes are of the sliding lid type, but antique ones have hinged lids. There must have been craftsmen in the past capable of making sliding lids, but all the ones I have seen are hinged. We must still have snuff-tite hinges but why are all modern boxes of a sliding lid type? Which is the most snuff-tite lid?

I think it’s easier to make a sliding.

The vicissitudes of aesthetics are fickle indeed. For today we live in an era of sliding lids.

What did you call me?!
