snuff bottles vs smash boxes for carrying for daily use

G

Not sure how many of you folks have chinese snuff bottles, you may have seen my three bottles I have that I posted photos of online here, but they are very nice. However, some of them are very old and I dont really feel comfortable carrying something that might get scratched with all my pocket stuff, knife, coins, keys yada yada. Now a plastic crush proof box, that is different. You can replace them cheaply enough, but maybe if I carried mine in a small ziplock it would not get scratched. I have found that for using them I have to use half of a pipe cleaner that is dipped into the snuff for a ‘spoon’ effect and it works well. What is your opinion of snuff bottles? smash proof boxes? I have plenty of old "KAYAK’ and other copenhagen style plastic containers laying about and they work pretty well. I dont recommend using the ones for the wintergreen as it takes on that scent in the plastic.

Right now i’m relegated to using the tins/containers that the snuff comes in from the manufacturer. I’d love to get my hands on a snuff box but $20 seems to be that average price for them and I can’t justify that much for a small wooden box to myself. I can see your hesitation at carrying those bottles though. The detail on them is truly amazing and I wouldn’t want to scratch it up. For the bulk snuffs that Ive bought and want to carry around, I went down to a local hardware store and got some small metal tins used for storing screws or nuts and bolts. The have twist tops so the snuff stays sealed and wont spill.

I’m still a few months into snuffing and I just carry the tin or my bullet. Those bottles are really cool though… I really like the red one. Are they easy to use?

I use an acrylic bullet if I know I’m only going to be gone for a couple of hours, if I’m out all day I bring a small toque tin with me.

I use my bottles at home or out on special occasions. I also have a few that I can wear as pendants. I do prefer pinching though so I’ll always have a snuff box with me. Snuff boxes are much more practical and take a little less ceremony to use. Smash boxes are fine too, so are tins but I wouldn’t use an old dip can, they are just too big for me.

I agree on the bottles, I forgot to mention that the red one is red coral, I believe it to be pre WWII or older, the round one is made of buffalo bone. The ornately painted glass one is so very gorgeous I feel hesitant to handle it on the desktop. Not that it is delicate, at around five dollars each they are a bargain, but I do agree. Snuff tins are gonna be the thing I carry. Aldi’s foods no longer carry "MYSTIC’ brand breath mints that had a very neat lil plastic inside divider with a tiny hole in it. PERFECT for snuff dispensing doses from. I have one can left of four I bought a few yrs ago. where did the other three go? No idea. There are some nifty ones on ebay, one set of 20 german brass ones was going for $75 plus ten shipping from hawaii. I dont need twenty and being unemployed at present I cannot do it. Maybe someday…?

Here is what I now carry my snuff of the day in my pocket, I got it at a Walgreens RX store, about a dollar or so. Works great and does not let snuff spill out, pretty tight. Yeah, it doesnt look as cool as a snuff tin. But around here I still get looks from the local billy bob sixpacks who think if it does not say "copenhagen’ on it you are a big sissy boy. Well I tell em, spend your three dollars a can every other day and I will order my Toques at 50 gms for about $9, last me a few months. Who is the idiot now?

I used to use Alltoids containers as a crush proof box for my cigarettes. I’ll give them a try for snuff but I image it’d take like 40 grams to fill one

Ooooh, fancy! Not sure if I’ll get one, but very nice none the less.

You can get small Altoids boxes, I have used that.
