Alright guys and girls- the time has come! God has decided to strike down the snuff mills! The rapture has left all but one snuff company on the Earth- but God has left the one remaining up to you! So who will it be? SG? WoS? Toque? You decide! Only ONE company and no exceptions! Mine would be WoS. (probably not surprising to a few of you
as my favorite snuff (currently) is GH’s Irish D, I want to say Gawith Hoggarth … but if it is a matter of survival … i can make due with WoS #22, and since WoS has a great variety … i’d second your vote for WoS, BUT … Lime Toast, Whisky & Honey, Spanish Gem, Natural Toast and Toast & Marmalade … so great. Frack! Yeah, i will stick with Wilsons.
yes, wilsons of sharrow is the omega man!
Swedish match (Leonard Dingler). Gotta have my taxi snuffs!
Toque would be my choice.
Samuel Gawith (although I would miss grand cairo terribly)
Samuel Gawith for me too. The alpha and the omega of snuff. Black Rappee, London Brown, Scotch Black, McCombie. High Mill, the Crests…there’s enough to keep a chap happy. Perhaps they just lack a bog standard SP. Their SP High Mill is lovely stuff but atypical…(darker, orangey, moister and fluffier). I’d be interested in anyone’s take on SG florals or menthols which I haven’t tried. Not my style. Any comments anyone? Where are you Xander?
I would have to say Wilsons of Sharrow for sheer variety
WoS…can’t do without my SPs
@petersuki I’m here! I don’t care for SG’s florals. They are too candy-like for me. I’ve not had any of their menthols, except the menthol thats in some of the herbal blends like CCC or Dr. Verey’s. Those I enjoy.
I think i would have to say WoS just because they have one of just about everything. I would be lost without schmaltzlers though so that would be a tough one. I guess i would just spend the rest of my days figuring out how to make schmaltzlers.
Toque without a doubt. Although I would be sad without Tom Buck.
I can t live without WOS
I’m 67 years old and have enough stock to last me 30 years. So, come what may, I don’t care a damn. If at 97 I’m still alive, I will quit snuffing and carry on with my pipes.
I would choose Sharrow Mill (because of the choice) hoping that they would start producing Spanish Gem.
If there really was a global disaster and only one mill survived, all the snuffhouse members would meet at the Svalbard seed vault, get all the tobacco seeds, and open our own mill.
Xander, yes. I checked out your reviews of SG. Just as well I’m not a big floral man, it’s no loss for me. Not their strong point. perhaps that’s why I can happily choose them as the omega stuff -they are STRONG on the plain sorts. You can’t or won’t commit yourself on this crucial point?
Well, this topic has come up at least three times since I’ve been here, and I have chosen in the past. I read to see what newer members have to say, but usually don’t get inovolved in conversations I’ve already had. But for the record, Wilsons of Sharrow. Simply based on the fact that they produce (along with their contract brands) more of my “keeper” snuffs than any other company. So I make my decision totally by quantitative analysis, not on favoritism.
Well, am I allowed to found my own company? If so, I’ll choose my company, buy the recipes off the other mills and hire their employees. Problem solved.
Also, WoS’s mills are (are they still?) water powered, so a global disaster wouldn’t render them powerless.
If pipe tobacco is a consideration I’d have to go with Sammy G. Snuff only, WOS. Mainly for Apricot, SM series and F&T HDT. Sorry Roderick.
TOQUE!! NO QUESTIONS!!
There are other, more pressing matters that I would like to discuss with God, but if He only asked me about snuff companies, then I’d say “well, that’s a bit random, God, but I’d say Poschl”! Admittedly, I don’t have the vast, wide-ranging experience of some other peeps on this forum, but for me Poschl snuffs tend to be my ‘thing’.
Dholakia!
Toque. There are 5 or 6 Toque snuffs that I will never be without. They’re the only company that I have ordered more of a snuff that I’ve already tried and they were my only bulk order.
Cool thread Rob, I haven’t been around long enough to have seen this question before. Tough choice, but based purely on variety produced I’d say WoS as long as they continue the F&T brand too. But half my bulk snuff is SG! Maybe I better start stocking up for the Apocalypse, zombie or whatever. Heaven knows I’m stocking up on ammo!
Can’t let anything happen to Molen De Kralingse
God will probably allow any ONE of them to survive except McChrystal’s, for raking the poor fools like myself that keep buying O&G!
Another WoS vote, again because of the extensive range.
Wos again . Also because they got the F&T selection!
@koba22 that’s what I’m sayin! No Tom Buck or QES would just kill me.
Oddly enough, I wouldn’t choose any of my favorites. I’d go with Garret, that stuff was made frontier tough and built to last. It might even double as gunpowder.
@spyro I defiantly agree with the garretts. I was lucky enough to get the large tumblers 8 for $1 each because of the grocery store down the road couldn’t sell them. It was awesome!
Tough decision, but if it happened now Id pick my Super Kailesh.
I would pick WOS, most likely. Ken
“God has decided to strike down the snuff mills! The rapture has left all but one snuff company on the Earth- but God has left the one remaining up to you!” Has he indeed! Fortunately the good Lord has seen fit to spare two snuff manufacturers as proof of His inimitable mercy (laus Deo). As a result of divine favour the health warning for Samuel Gawith is to be replaced with ‘Deo gratias’ and the libel for Wilsons of Sharrow replaced with ‘Deo favente’. Amen.
WoS because I couldn’t live without Tom Buck
6 Photo. I could say 5 Photo as well, but Vikas posts here, so they get it. I use 6 Photo almost exclusively as it is.
I shudder when I think of no snuff. Sam Gawaith Princess dark, London Brown, my new found friend Irish d light, and scotch black. These start and make my day and help end my day. And I must not forget O&G or hedges. (when I take princess I follow it up with a pinch of menthol) I hate what is happening.
I’m changing my vote to Toque. Since trying most of Roderick’s snuffs in bulk, I really appreciate the quality. Think Toque are good in tins? Try bulk!!!
