After giving up cigs I gained about 35 pounds or so. I have been losing it (the weight) gradually, but since adding snuff on a frequent basis I seem to be losing weight more rapidly. This would make sense in that nicotine is a thermogenic drug (increases metabolic rate). Cigs are said to keep 12 pounds per year off of you. Anybody else notice?

I applied my method of quitting smoking to food, in a lesser sense. You still have to eat but it’s all a restraint, self control thing I had to fight with.Don’t eat till you’re absolutely full. Get your mind straight, Luke. Think and be deliberate in all you do. Plus, when I snuff I feel more like physical activity which helps with keeping off weight.(Physical activities like drinking beer, unfortunately.) And as A. Lincoln said, “Whatever you are, be a good one”. Good luck!

nicotine does suppress the desire to eat. Also food and nicotine please similar brain pathways. So it’s not uncommon to eat more when you stop useing nicotine. Your brain gets used to haveing certain chemical levels. I drink more if I don’t have nicotine (not more often but more when I do). I don’t think the metabolic rate change would have much effect at least by itself. A fast metabolism can cause either weight gain or lose.

Metabolic rate also lowers with age, so it’s natural to gain few pounds when you hit about 50 mark and it’s nothing to worry about if you’re relatively healthy and fit.

I know when you stop smoking food taste better. I have not lost any weight using snuff. Snuff does make your wallet lighter!

I noticed weight loss with cigarettes and dip. Those would kill my appetite. Snuff on the otherhand doesnt.
