MrSnuff currently sells handkerchiefs and some, rather lovely, hand crafted Indian snuff boxes. But we want want to make sure we are giving our customers the accessories they need. We don’t want to offer ten cheap variants of everything under the sun, instead we want a curated list of high quality items.

And we have to be careful that we don’t sell ‘dual use’ accessories, that is drug paraphernalia in the eyes of our credit card processor risk assessors.

So question is: What accessories should we sell?

My list of accessories so far is:

  • Handkerchiefs
  • Snuff Boxes
  • Snuff Spoon
  • Neti Pot

What do you think?

B

I’d definitely like to see more easily accessible tap boxes. I know Mr. Snuff has tap boxes for sale, but they aren’t listed under the Accessories tab, you have to search for them in the search bar (which I actually can’t locate now that I’m searching for them).

Some branded tap boxes would be a cool idea, too.

P

Tapboxes
Snuff bottles
Empty snus portion bags .

N

Worth mentioning that a number of products don’t appear when using drop down menus and can only be found by searching. The snuffhouse snuffbox is one example.

Edit: I need to type faster as I see this was already menitoned an hour ago

M

Snuff Bottles - traditional german schmalzer type with cork
Bring back the Mr snuff plastic tapbox. The round ones they are fantastic

J

Great replies, thanks.

I notice nobody has mentioned bullets. They are dual use, but do snuffers use them?

M

Not really. They only work with dry fine snuffs like toasts otherwise they just clog up and become next to useless.

D

The single most useful item that your main competitor sells in his accessories section are empty tins (screw-top with lid liners). The best and most useful accessory there is. I go through 10s of them in a few months time. Nice to have options of sizes too (5g, 10g, 25g). If you had them, say in a dozen a pack, I’d buy a couple sleeves of them in every single order.

N

Those tins are great, and I use them as a daily snuff box, but have ongoing doubts about the wisdom of using aluminium screw top tins due to wear on the threads.

I would not bother myself with those crap things.

J

Good news everybody!

I have restored the Snuffhouse Tap Boxes to full view under the Accessories menu item. I also reduced the price by 20%. Thanks to those of you who pointed that out

The idea of supplying empty tins is interesting. If people want them then I don’t see why not. I will need to find a source for them, shouldn’t be hard.

Related to that: as you may know, we are currently talking to a food-grade pouch manufacturer to see about sourcing high quality, branded, resealable, and stand-up pouches that should be very good at locking the moisture in, much better than a screw-top tin I imagine. Maybe we should also supply these pouches, empty, alongside the tins?

The pouches will be printed with generic MrSnuff branding, and they will have a space to put a nice label to indicate the actual product each pouch contains. We could supply blank labels with the empty pouches to give the ability to easily customise the contents

The pouches sound good to me.

H

I use them when I am out and about.

C

I would like to try one (bullet), but have read mostly negative reviews. So if you can find a quality product, sure.

P

Bullets suck in my experience .I’d be better off with a vial for a similar form factor with increased utility .I saw one tubey one ‘the iBumpi’ (or something similar ) that would been handy for me but next to useless to pinchers

Pinching people already get a fair few options in nicer quality snuff boxes …but tapping people don’t really get bugger all choice . I’ve been exclusively using Poschl empties for pocket snuff for years .

T

I like the idea of tap boxes and maybe metal snuff boxes, usually the more gimmicky stuff gets forgotten in a draw.

P

I’ve heard tell of DIY snus kits (just the kit , no tobacco) but never seen them for sale . I would definitely have bought one if I had . Just for the fun of it .

N

The Snus at home guy sells these, but obviously shipping from the states makes them an unattractive proposition.

C

At one point, I was looking for some snuff related t-shirts (at the time, specifically McChrystal’s). The only place I could find that had those was here.

I’m unsure if these are licensed from McChrystal’s or not (they don’t sell them on their own website, so who knows). Not really what I was looking for, I wanted a closeup of the logo on their tins, especially JIP! or vintage O&G.

Maybe there’s a relatively untapped market here.

D

So very sad to see snuffs and products no longer available after a good 10 year break. Mr. Snuff had it all back in the day. If you could only carry one accessory…my vote would be snuffboxes, tapboxes.

J

@desirexe

No sooner said than done

The tap boxes are back and we have a new range of camel bone snuff boxes online too.

As time goes by we very much hope to rebuild the MrSnuff of yesteryear - only better.

Stick with us and please keep your suggestions coming. We rely on feedback like yours to keep the improvements flowing.

And welcome back to the Snuffhouse forum!

J

OK, that is a bit spooky. I spent this afternoon installing a Shopify integration to a Print On Demand service called Printly (on a test site)

This will aIlow us to start selling branded merch. Printly only manufacture what is ordered so we don’t need to hold stock, and they do the shipping. They also put the orders out to an automatic auction and local printers bid for them, so the shipping costs are low.

I was just thinking about MrSnuff branded kit but your idea of having the snuff tins logos is really great. We will need to speak to the manufacturers to get their permission, but assuming that is forthcoming, the only cost to us would be putting together a library of designs.

I love it when a plan comes together.

V

DIY section. Sieves, grinders, mortars and pestles, precision scales, food grade chemicals - alkalis, ammonium salts, paraffinum liquidum, menthol, camphor, essential oils, glycerine, PG etc.

P

You could consider stocking the 3x2 medium boxes made by Heartwood Creations in Illinois. I’ve been gifted several over the years. They are very well made and are snuff-proof. Wilsons of Sharrow sell them engraved with their own logo.

T

Some decent snuff spoons would be good, I keep losing mine so probably a good regular income from those.

V

can u please sell snuff bullets please u talking bout mr snuff

D

I LOVE those tapboxes you just added to the site. I still have a green one. Next order I will have to grab another one or 2. I sure wish I held on to my Poschl automatik boxes. Those catapult contraptions were great for those painful fine, dry white snuffs. Lol.

D

Bringing back the metal screw top tins and the plastic smash boxes would be nice.

J

Hi @Deez

What is a smash box?

B

The “snuffmaster” is a great device. I have two (a metal one and a plastic one, but I mostly use the plastic one. $14 , I’m sure in bulk you could have a deal and sell it at the same as him, win win.
The maker lives in Germany. Like a snuffbox meets a bullet?
It’s great imo. Especially. If driving or playing video games

Link: https://www.schnupfmaschine.com/en/snuffmaster-schnupfmaschine

J

The snuffmaster is great looking product for sure, and very much in tune with our plans to both pay respect to all the snuff heritage whilst also providing modern and practical snuff accessories. I also like the fact that the name makes its use very clear, so that helps with the dual-use issue I mentioned previously

I watched the Simon’s (Simply Snuff) review videos and he gave it the thumbs up, but I was wondering if anybody else has had any experience with this device, or if you know if it has any kind of rep (good or bad) in the community.

Thanks again for all the great suggestions. I am actively looking at each one to see what we can do.

N

I’m not convinced by fancy contraptions and note that Simon rarely posts reviews which are less than positive, but if a market exists for such products it would seem reasonable to stock them

P

I think Mr Snuff had them in the past , the original metal ones ? Is that the one that had a dual hole version too ?

EDIT Yep it is , I kinda liked it but I don’t ever need 2 nostrils worth and I cerainly aint paying extra for one hole .

C

@Jonny I’ve recently bought a Snuffmaster in pear wood. It’s nice, simple, well-made and it’s handy when I’m out and about.

I also have a couple of metal bullets, but I only put fine snuffs (currently Dholakia White and White Elephant) in them.

A snuff spoon would be good but it’s very obviously dual-use, so I understand your payment processor might be unhappy.

And a big yes from me for the combined snuff box/tap box. I’ve got a few of them and they’re really useful. Mine have De Ster & De Lilie on them, bought from a Chinese website.

M

Yes, i got one of them when they were on Mr Snuff in the pre TPD era so circa 2015. It works great with dry fine snuffs like toasts or wos plain but clog up with anything with any moisture in them. A bit like bullets and though a good concept it remains at the back of a drawer somewhere as tapboxes or tins end up been just simpler and more sucsesful on the whole.

C

Took a look at the Pöschl Automatik Box that @desirexe mentioned earlier. Very interesting and much better than those huge, wooden catapults the Germans use. It doesn’t appear that they’re still available, however. Maybe you can convince Pöschl to make more or if not, they shouldn’t be too hard to reverse engineer - patent laws notwithstanding.

P

I like the Packards Club approach for dry snuffs. A sort of reverse ‘hungry hungry hippo’ that vomits a tiny bale of snuff .

D

I had like 10 of those suckers at one point, all filled with different snuffs and like an idiot, I got into deep clean mode and tossed most of my accessories. So kicking myself! Some snuffs would shoot so perfectly and deep up my nose that it was like brain freeze but in a spectacular way. Lol! Yes, Poschl, bring 'em back, charge triple OR MORE than what you originally did!

D

I did email Poschl asking them to make these again and if/when they do to let Mr.Snuff know! Seems the best place for information like that to go? I doubt my one, measely msg did anything but I did it.

D

Oh yeah!! That’s a term I havent heard in a long time!! They are plastic boxes (round/cylinder in shape), mainly white or black in color with a snap on lid, right? You could get different sizes to hold 10g, 25g…usually under under $1USD each back in the day…Am I recalling correctly? They were loved by many. I’d dump my McCrystals in those for more secure storage as their small tin tops easily separate from the body thus causing spillage. Smashboxes were the cheap solution! Meant to tag @Deez as well…

C

Right on! There are several videos/reviews extolling their virtues and lamenting their loss - something like 12+ years back.

Incidentally, I’m wondering how the Automatikbox compares to the Schnupfdosn. It would appear that with the Schnupfdosn, one would have quite a bit more control on the velocity vs just the click with the Poschl box, unless it too was pressure sensitive.

M

The Automatik Box is a true one of a kind device and mine keeps on going.

D

I have not used that particular brand schnupfdosn BUT one very similar and it was nice BUT clogged very easily. Snuff would get in the spring track making it stick so the snuff couldn’t “shoot.” Not sure if you get what I am trying to say. Lol. Those automatik boxes were just where it was at!

D

I am SOOOO jealous!!! I can hear the glorious “click” from here…

C

From 2011:

Guess they never got around to fixing the machine. Bummer, indeed.

M

With 3D printing available, recreating it could net them a small fortune

C

If only I had a 3D printer…

This is like a plastic version of the Schnupfdosn. And here’s a dual use version with bottle opener. Where’s @SnusatHome? Doesn’t he make 3D printed boxes?

All sorts of plastic and wooden variations here along with other weirdness.

M

I never really bought into the building burnt down story and I will explain why. 1st, the box is made up of 5 pieces that uses 4 different materials. I have never seen a machine that could create that in a single operation. It’s more likely that the parts were created in molds, then separated, sorted and assembled meaning that the molds could always be recreated. 2ndly, if you look at any snuff operation you will see people sifting, mixing and filling. That almost would make someone to believe that the additional cost of such a box would have to create a cost that many people might not want to pay at a time when Snuff was plentiful. 3rdly but this might be a yarn, I once heard that the product was pulled because people were either blasting their eyes or someone standing near them. Hope this at least ,is entertaining while you take a sniff

M

I always like a tap box. I’m currently searching for my 1st snuff box

D

Smashbox example… they came in different sizes… very useful cheap little containers but could really only use once, for one snuff as the plastic would just absorb the smell…I may order these actually, great way to take several different snuffs on my upcoming roadtrip.

M

Those are a great idea for a trip.

N

Smash boxes are also great for rehydrating a couple days worth of snuff so your not rehydrating the entire tin and losing flavour everytime it dries out.

P

Those threads are huge. I’d pay cash money to see someone wear out those threads. And if it pops off regularly, it’s cross threaded, and the user doesn’t have the skills necessary to operate such equipment.

P

22-28 inch square, strong, soft, high thread count, hand dyed, Indian cotton. I know you have some solid relationships in India, our noses comfort might help to support a small village. Personally I’d be in it at $10 a piece. Sell them as a house pick/random item under one listing for that price point. That would be my picnic hanky.

Potentially; dark brown flanneled cotton hankies. I’ve got a few of my grandfather’s I like. But that combination doesn’t seem available this side of the pond.

N

I’m not expecting anyone to wear out the threads, but thinking out loud about gentle wear from use and the wisdom of using them to store something intended for use on a mucus membrane.

Small amounts of aluminium oxide in the nose might not be a great long term proposition.

M

Received my 1st real snuff box today. A James Dixon and Sons pewter box circa 1879-1927. Amazing it still works perfectly

T

Nice, wish someone was making those today.

P

Silversmithing is a common profession of the Navajo. If you’d like me to reach out to some more skilled smiths, I can do that. I live on the edge of the Navajo Nation. And we sell smithing supplies where I work. Etsy would be the best common platform. Anyone selling personally hand made Navajo jewelry could be a good contact.

M

That would be nice but there are plenty of used ones out there. I found mine on ebay for merely 35 US plus shipping and like @PriseGletchers said, Etsy has plenty too.

P

There are tons of used bollo ties too. But I don’t want granddads, I want some of that young blood jewelry. But for practicality over fashion, used boxes still box snuff and offer a pinch just fine.

I can imagine myself with a bespoke snuffbox. Trying to act casually about how slick it is. Then shoving it in people’s faces after going unnoticed for some time “ISN’T IT PRETTY!”

T

Yes, it would be good if I could support someone who was still keeping these skills alive. If these people go without passing on what they know then the knowledge they have could die with them.

X

It’s a good idea to offer them on your Mr. Snuff website so that you are a one stop shop for all thing snuffing; however, my concern is that currently Amazon sells handkerchiefs, snuff boxes, snuff spoons, bullets, and neti pot. Just a thought. and all kinds of Snuff containers: plastic and metal screw lid.

N

If people could refrain from bidding on ebay I’d have a sizeable collection of nice silver snuff boxes. As things stand, they generally sell for more than I’m prepared to pay.

Amazon and ebay provide a large selections of options for snuff handkerchiefs, but the problem is quality. While decent options are most likely available, one never really knows and I tend to buy cheap and receive see through as I’m not willing to take a chance on paying more and receiving the same.

P

Spot on. That’s the only reason I went into great detail regarding hankies. They are simple and ubiquitous items, that can sometimes be purchased with intent when available.

M

Wow! So many folks with great points of view which make one understand completely that this comes down to personal choice. Myself, if I may throw my hat into the ring absolutely love traditional thing’s and as a few examples, I love vintage cabana shirts while I vacation at the ocean or the tonal quality of ancient instruments and even owning a pipe that was completely made by hand. I could live in the world of 2nd hand the rest of my life as I have already been baptized in and raised that nothing is done until it doesn’t work anymore.

X

Amazon also has some affordable snuff spoons.

B

I just put a rolled up piece of paper towel in one hole, been gtg for many weeks like that. Since I like to do one nostril at a time, or to put into boxcar.

B

I got 12 pack of good plaid hankies from Amazon for decent price. Just make sure it’s 100% cotton. Not that synthetic kind as it’s rough.

B

Is the site of the maker, as far as I know there is no option for one in wood.
Maybe you got a knockoff?

C

I have one of these:

Quite a different beast!

J

Those wooden boxes look nice. I have taken a note of the url. Also the Indian handkerchief idea was a good one, I will follow that up.Thanks for the suggestions.

In other news. I got in touch with the SnuffMaster guy so we will probably be restocking these in the near future as well.

P

That appears to be the perfect solution for when I get that water-up-the-nose sensation from a bullet! Now I can get both sides simultaneously and just pretend I did a siiiick cannonball off the 3m.

P

Things with a triskelion/cassyn on them. I was a psychotic TT rider(redundant?) in years past. The great seal of the King of Man will always evoke emotion from a set that has aspired to ride around your Isle as fast as they can.

M

I stopped by a couple of 2nd hand stores that I haven’t visited in at least 6 months and found this jewel @ 50% off the ticketed price. Very, very pleased. Not to offend anyone but I definitely said "Thank You God "

J

We should have a triskelian on our branding, that is a great idea; and respect to any mad biker person who manages to make it around the TT racing course alive. Jeepers.

X

Only accessory I need is a decent soft handkerchief (soft like flannel). I have some “soft” cotton hankerchiefs but would want the flannel it seems to catch the dust particles with having to really scrape the skin.

I don’t scoop with a spoon nor do I use bullets…maybe just maybe a nice little silver (inexpensive) snuff box for my desk, but even that, I can do without.

Maybe some middle of the road 5 or 10 g tins that won’t jump the threads, get stuck, or create silver filings. But again, I got some off Amazon and they are food grade and work well. Thx.

forgot: saline spray. I use it daily keeps everything moist and clear.

J

Thanks @xtian

I agree about the soft handkerchief. I wonder if we could get pre stressed cotton? New hankies do tend to be stiff and not much use until you get through a few cycles.

X

I cut up an old flannel into pieces and used some as a handkerchief and another I use to buff the bowls of my pipe…dual purpose. Pre stressed cotton may work too.

Edit=== I suppose I could try using fabric softener like Downey, I never used anything like that before,

B

I put my handkerchiefs through the wash (with other clothes) 1-2 times before using when new. I bought a pack of 12 so I’m good for yrs probably. I will say after a few washes they were really good after that. Fabric softener might be an option too. But I’d definitely wash it before use imo.

P

So I tried the Snuffhouse tapbox …in blue .

I already have a tabletop box of a similar design …a good fist size . The biggun has slipped into regular use (with a elastic band round it) at home but it’s a little large for the pocket .

The Snuffhouse box is a little two finger sized number , about 50% fatter than a Poschl Gawith tapbox but only 70% of the length . So it short , squat and blocky . It’s a little fiddly in my biggish hands but 1 handed operation is pretty easy . The back door closes well and doesn’t feel like it’s gonna open unexpectedly , The hinge arrangement looks acceptable for refilling but pinchers might want something a bit more durable . It’s not an easy box to fill . It does not appear to leak snuff at the hinges .

I really like it but I want it bigger !! . A three finger sized version would be pretty much perfect for my hands .

D

Does anyone know where to get the blue miners snuff flask, plastic i belive, poschl i think made them.

N

If you know anyone in Germany they seem to be readily available - if not in local stores, most definitely online. I thought I had a quantity lined up some months back, but have been let down so far.

D

I don’t know anyone there. Online is difficult so far. Guess ill keep plugging away.

P

I’ve been looking for one for years . Mr Snuff has had them , I’ve even ordered them but never actually had it ship . Even buttering people up on German eBay , I’ve tried the lot for that 3 euro semi-disposable flask .
