Smokeless Tobacco sure is expensive

Having a craving for some smokeless I just pulled into a gas station and purchased a small tin of Skoal Long cut, cherry. When I asked for it both the attendants were clueless as to what I wanted I had to make a eating motion while saying tobacco for them to clue in. The total price was $19.81. They were clueless because they never sell any of their stock… Smokeless tobacco in Canada is hard to find, and when you do the product is not fresh and it’ll cost you a ton of money. I wish our tobacco legislation wasn’t so brutal. I’ve only found one shop in the entirety of Canada that sells 1 snuff, and they are on the other coast. It’s in fact cheaper for me to order smokeless from Europe, and pay shipping than to buy it in my own country.

Dip in North Carolina was ~$3 a can. Down here in Florida a can old ole grizzly will cost you $4.

ALL tobacco in Canada (except cigars of course) are taxed the same as cigarettes, that’s why pipe baccy, snuff and oral tobacco is so expensive over here.

I’m glad there is snus available. Whenever I buy a can of grizzly or Copenhagen here in Oregon it’s near sawdust moisture level. Even a can dated a month old last time was bad. Snus, however is always fresh, and if I feel like some dip ill opt for a chew instead.

@n9inchnails , do you know what the reasoning is behind taxing all tobacco like cigs? It’s like Canada is trying to force us all to stop tobacco by pricing it out of our hands. It’s cheaper for me to go back to cigarettes, surely that’s not a good idea.

I think I would consider grinding cigars into snuff. I have never tried it but it might be a experiment worth looking into. High grade tobacco

Same here in Switzerland. Ridiculous prices. 16 francs (11 UK pounds) for a 21g tin of O&G. That’s why I buy everything online.

I know that feels @SnuffySnuff

@thorgrimnr do you live near a native reserve? One near me (SW Ontario) has Copenhagen and Skoal for $10-$11. Still too expensive, but better than $17-$18 off the reserve.

thanks @crullers that’s an option I’ve not considered, I’ll look into that. Yes still quite expensive but a much better price!
