smelly box?

So I just filled up my new zebra wood tripletech snuffbox yesterday and I love it! Its super tight, looks great, holds its own bone spoon, has a tap hole, and I can pinch from the main door! My only problem is that now my snuff tastes like zebra wood. Should this pass in time? Can I do something to neutralize the scent? Will I learn to love the flavor of wood?

Try filling it about half-way with baking soda for a day or two and giving it a good shake every now and then. Then dispose of the baking soda and dry wipe the inside of your snuff box.

@howdydave Thanks! I’ll be giving that a shot after I get in touch with my inner termite and snuff my way though this chocolate snafu viking quit wood blend!

MMMMMMMMMMMM yum, chocolate snafu viking quit wood blend! Patrick doesn’t recommend but I sealed my box with Paragon pipe wax ,wipe on wipe off, let dry, buff with soft rag, fill,enjoy- if pinching repeat 2X per year

ha! my first thought was ‘shouldnt that be in off-topic?’ when i read the title.

Then again… by the time your snuffbox is empty, the smell may be gone! Either absorbed by or overpowered by the smell of the last snuff that you had in your snuffbox. That is why I have a tendency to use only one type of snuff in a wooden snuffbox.

My experience is that after a very short time the tendency is for the box to take on the scent of the last snuff rather than impart wood scent into the contents.

That would be totally okay with me, I plan on using this as my “tail mix” box, where the last of my tins go to die. A little flavor mixing is part of the fun! >:)

Update! After just one cycle through my new snuff box it has stoped imparting any aroma to my snuffs! I love problems that fix themselves! :D/
