I don’t know if this would be feasible for you guys to implement or if there’s already a way of doing this, but I think it would be great if there were a way to hide announcements. I know there’s a way to ignore all threads in a certain category, like for those who don’t wish to see OT threads, but I’m thinking more of thread by thread basis. Ignoring all announcements would obviously defeat the purpose of them, but I’ve already read through the announcement threads up so far. On my main monitor (a 1920x1080 23.5"), they take up a hair more that 75% of the page before I can get down to the new threads that I haven’t looked at. On a more standard monitor (I think this one’s about 17"), I can’t actually see ANY of the other threads without scrolling. I think this is in part a result of the forum’s layout, since in a more traditional forum with a hierarchy of forums and sub-forums, I imagine the visual clutter would be substantially reduced by having them placed in the relevant forum or sub-forum, rather than all in one place on the front page.
This is a kind of small issue, but I d think it would be awesome if a user could say, “Yes, I’ve read the announcements about Admins, Mods, Members and Viewing Policy, and I’ve read the one abou the Real Time Chat.” and they could click a button to hide them until they were updated in some way. Everyone would still be able to see and read them, but those of us concerned about wasted screen space could get at the newer material on the site without having to scroll down a page. As usual, great job maintaining the forum to the admins and mods, just an idea I had that I thught might be an improvement for some members if it were not to much of a headache to make happen for the guys who take care of these things.
Anyone else have any feelings one way or another about this?
