I used to get 2 or 3 sinus infections a year. Since I started snuffing about a year ago, I have not had any, until now. It seems that Hedges is keeping me ok, and I have read that it was made to treat such things…I was wondering if anyone has had snuff cure a sinus infection, or should I go to doc for the pills?
snuff may help ease the infection, but it won’t cure it. Snuff will cause more mucous to form in the nose which will help clean out your sinuses, and menthol will open you up, but only medicine or your own immune system will cure it.
I had a minor sinus infection recently; the first I’ve had since I started snuffing July of last year. It still had to run its course before I was better; but I found that instead of constant sinus pressure and being clogged up, my airways stayed clear. However, I still had that irritated ‘dry’ feeling in the morning. But at least I could breathe through my nose!
Probaby increased mucous helps to drain infection, but as said it won’t kill an infection on its own, although in some cases it might be all you need - we are very quick to take antibiotics when previous generations got over minor infections with their own anti-bodies. I guess its also possible that snuff in the nose creates an environment that is not favourable to the proliferation of bacteria - but at this stage its speculation as there have been no studies. Personally nothingworks better than strong snuff if I have a heavy cold. I was once so desperate that I just stopped using the over the counter meds and forced some snuff up there - I was clear in minutes. Very much a case of if it works for you…
Snuffster is right on almost. There are diffrent infections. There are also plenty of things you might take as an infection that are simplely some other type of irritation and inflammation some itis. More accurate snuff helps with Sinitis because it will relieve pressure and improve drainage. If it’s infection type A your body won’t kill it and you’ll need anti-biotics or a lot of time. If it’s infection type b you’re own antibodies will kill the infection and snuff will help that a lot. If they were to give you antibiotics for this infection it would almost seem like they worked because you’d take them and it be gone. Though he one last thing you have to be carefull with such treatments as snuff to treat an infection I don’t know if it works I do know it will relieve symptoms if that’s all it does (I’am not sure if that is all it does) then you might still have an infection with no signs or symptoms. So maybe make sure you don’t have any sign of infection even more minor.
Last time I got sick I pretty much stopped with snuff, either they clogged me up or they irritated my already tender nose. I did a little research and began snuffing sodium ascorbate powder, Vitamin C. Cleared my nose quickly and I was up and at 'em within days. I do anything to avoid seeing my doc though, so who knows…
Good point from Bob, its hard to say where a substance helped or your own defences coped. I didn’t know about type a or b infections.
I believe snuff is more of an preventive than a cure.
Its also important to note that if you have a viral infection and see a doctor, and s/he gives you antibiotics, they will not do anything…its the placebo effect at work. Its medically unethical, in my opinion, and it happens a lot. Bacterial infections are another story… Snuff is amazing for colds and such anyways. I’ve had quite a few since I started snuffing, probably from being exposed frequently in the work place, but they are much easier to deal with using snuff.
Before I started Snuffing, my Winter colds would invariably turn into a secondary infection that made me lose my voice for weeks on end. I still get those, but the duration is much shorter with Snuff and no Pharynx trouble.
I certainly agree with the preventive thing. I have had way less allergy and sinus difficulties since I started snuffing. I had to take allergy medicine daily before snuff. Once a year sinus infection is a hell of a lot better than several times a year too. I will swing by the doc and get the antibiotics just to make sure I get rid of it. Thanks everyone!
Years ago when I was a young schoolboy I would often stay at my mothers oldest sisters home. Aunt Gert. & Uncle Harry would sit in there rocking chairs both with a bottle of Guinness and a tin of J & H Wilson’s Top Mill. I kinda loved it being there is I had a cold. A cup of Guinness and a pinch of snuff was the medication.
yeah type a and b were just a simple way of saying viral or bacterial infection. Though I do think that tobacco kills bacteria I don’t think snuff would really help totaly kill it off once established.
I could be wrong, but I think most sinus infections are bacterial, not viral. There are alternatives to antibiotics – natural remedies that will boost your immune system – but it’s always best to get a doctor’s advice. OTOH, overuse of antibiotics is the primary cause of all the drug-resistant bacteria going around today. Ultimately, it’s your call.
Pretty much any infection can be either.
