Sinus condition

I’ve been only 1 week to snuff, after being a long time smoker, and I worry I may be getting sinus clogging. I notice pain and clogging getting worse with the stronger tobacco tastes. Any one with sinus conditions experiences?

Yeah some snuffs are clogging, everyone’s different with which are and which aren’t. For me mentholated ones and German ones are the worst offenders, and I do best with toasts and Indian whites. If my nose is really stuffed, whites will blow through it like pouring concentrated hydrochloric acid on a cinderblock. Sometimes I feel like I’m chronically congested and then I take a break for a couple days, either dip or smoke or snus.

Horus: Thanks! Which whites would you recommend ?

Any of them work for me - 6 Photo Cheeta, Dholakia White, and 41 Photo White Elephant are the only brands readily available to westerners afaik. The Cheeta smells sort of like incense, the other two are plain and their scents are pretty hard to describe but all three have their devotees. But better to stop congestion before it starts than have to take more snuff to correct it; I find I get a lot worse congestion if I get the snuff too far back. Dunno if that might be an issue.

I know for me personally really coarse snuff tends to do it. Definitely take horus92’s advice with giving it a break for a bit. Also two I would suggest using a saline nasal rinse. I know it helps me when I am congested.

Thanks, everybody. I take your advice to consume moderately. I´ll keep slowly experimenting to find the satisfactory one. Yes, I use saline in my nose everyday even before trying snuff, as for allergy rhinitis, but I´ll not let it preclude I can enjoy this way of using tobacco, after quitting cigarettes. Lunecat: good reference to WS “Field of Junipers”. It deserves a try!

I never understood what people meant about getting congested from snuff – until I tried Old Paris. Like cement! But the whites are the perfect antidote.

If you do " nasal irrigation", ie, suck up warm salt water, one tsp in a glass of water, cover one nostril, put edge of glass to the other and gently, gently suck it up your nose, it will clear all the shit out of your sinuses. It is a procedure recommended by many ENTs( ear, nose and throat doctors) also is used in Auyervedic medicine. I do it almost every night to remove all the snuff residue. You’ll be amazed at all the crap that comes out. It works for sinus infections and obstructions as well as just routine cleansing of the nose and related stuff. I have done it for thirty years and it works. Then when you’re done, try some Toque Spearmint. It is better than Crumbs of Comfort. I don’t care what everyone else says, it is really good, and won’t clog you up. I’m not as expert as a lot of guys here, but I know what works for me. The C of C is good for sure, but the Toque, if you can find it, is excellent and is my new favorite in the spearmint department, prior to that only using CofC . A local shop carries it and when I tried it I was very pleasantly surprised.

@mrmanos have you tried WoS Country Mint? I found it better than CoC. I’ve not tried the Toque, as Toque USA remains hard to find. @lunecat WS = Walter Scott

Yes. WS = Walter Scott. I´ve noticed when using plain snuff (Viking Blonde), there´s not clogging. Even I was surprised as how clean my nose was and how I could breath in the morning. I´ll keep on with the snuff R+D. Greetings!

Hi Ricardus, I have a fairly serious nasal condition, a deviated septum which results in me nearly always breathing poorly through the nose. All menthol sniffs for me are a no no, I take nothing with a strong mint or other flavour however a good, plain fairly dry and non course snuff I can take. After trying nearly everything I have found that F and T Morocco is completely inoffensive and can be mixed with J and H Wilson top mill for extra kick. To be honest a little pain when one first starts to snuff is not uncommon but only a little anymore than that stop. After several weeks the nose will adapt and you will settle into a rhythm of taking the snuff. Once this has been achieved stick to what you can take and forget the rest. For anyone with nose issues non mentholated and plain is the key. Try to avoid anything complex.

I remember someone here saying that over time your nose can adjust to mentholated snuffs just like it can to white snuffs and whatnot. It’s an interesting enough idea to me that I’m getting a fair number of menthols next order to experiment with taking in the morning - ironic since a few weeks ago I said I’d never buy more euro menthols, but consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds. I just haven’t had any mint/mentholated snuffs besides Crumbs of Comfort in probably a year, besides Indians.

Hi, @snuffynose‌. Yes, it’s a matter of personal. test to try to find what is good or not for you. I agree with the initial pain, not only on nose, also maybe in throat. What was our first feeling with cigarettes? @horus92‌ Never say never . Ill keep trying menthols if I can tolerate them,
