I have a round snuff dispenser made of aluminum that reads,Singleton’s snuff super menthol (on front) and manufactured by Singleton &(and symbol) Cole L ltd, Birmingham & Branches England. Pat No. 591426 on the back. Does anyone know how old this tin is? I have searched the internet and can’t find any info about this tin.
@tapchs, does yours also have “food for thought” at the bottom, front? If so, I have a similar tin for which I’ve paid R90.00 on eBay. The provisional patent number on my tin is 10774=45. This was the first snuff I knew of as a kid, way back in the 1950’s. I can only guess the age of the tin must be around 50 years or so.
Mine is only a dispenser and does not have food for thought on it .It is round and measures 1 5/8" across and 3/8 of a inch high. It has a slot on the side where you can twist it to make the slot open to get the snuff out.
I’m pretty sure our tins look the same. The two halves of the tin must be turned until the dispensing holes are in line in order to shake out a pinch. Everything “printed” on your tin is on mine as well except for the wording “Food for Thought” which is on the top half of my tin.
Sounds like the same tin other than the “Food for Thought” which is not on mine.I found my tin at a flea market in the mountains of North Carolina. Thanks for the info.
