Just thought I’d highlight something that folks may be interested in: I have found a company that make silver snuff boxes. They are a South of England silversmiths called Walsh Brothers and they make a fantastic box for just under £50. Expensive, but I wanted a silver box all my snuffing career and this is just superb, got one for Christmas. It’s quite small and is absolutely fantastic quality and hand engraved, holds a good days worth of snuff. You can find the snuff box on the pill box section of their site by clicking on the words ‘reproduction silver’ They also do pewter boxes. They are at www.walshbrothers.co.uk
Yeah I think it was rommer who had bought one from them. He seemed to like it. It is pricey after currency conversion @ $100. But when you find something you really like, your willing to pay whatever it costs. I would really like to melt some of my gold down and make a golden snuff box! I think that would be pretty saaaa-wweeeeettt ;~)
Gold would be fantastic, but will remain a dream for me! Fortunately, I live in the UK so there were no currency conversion issues for me, and it was somthing I’d always wanted and yeah, when you really want something…
snuffster, you can see one of my absolute favorite boxes here. on the 3rd comment. Its not a silver box but does have silver on it.
Thats what I would call a perfect snuff box, troutstroker. I love the traditional boxes and this is a pure example in every way. I bet the snuff tastes fantastic from that box!
Oh it does. I think I could snuff dirt out of it and it would still taste good! LOL… If your interested in this type of box, on comment #2 & #15 are links for wooden boxes of this type. And they are on your side of the pond.
Thanks mate, always eager to look at snuff box sources, and yes, the wooden boxes bound by silver are one of the types Ive been waiting to get hold of for years
I also splurged on a nice silver snuff box from Rajek’s, which I reviewed In this thread. I’m a big fan of anything silver. I even have about 400 oz. of silver bullion for investment purposes. So, a nice silver snuff box just seemed suiting. It damn sure wan’t cheap, but very much worth it as far as I’m concerned.
Yeah that was a nice box you got Satyr.
snuffster, there are usually a good amount of nice silver & wooden snuff boxes on Ebay as well.
Superb. Expensive, but worth every penny I would say from the look of it. Silver is just so elegant for some reason and silver snuff boxes just do it for me, I think maybe because they conjure up the style of snuffs glory years when all gentlemen carried a snuff box. I’m also convinced that snuff always tastes better from a nice box.
The ebay section looks very interesting as well, not something Ive previously delved into, thanks for the links guys
Not sure about the pewter boxes, but I know for a fact that silver kills all bacteria and mold/mildew and will keep your snuff fresher for a very long time. Here’s a great link to some very interesting information on silver and it’s lesser known benefits.
Satyr, you bringing that up reminds me of one of the side effect of colloidal silver. It will turn you blue. Have a look at this video link of a guy that turned blue from silver, its pretty interesting. There is 2 vids. Man turned BLUE from Silver
Ive got both types of boxes, I dont think the pewter thing is true. Also, pewter is very soft and the boxes are not that robust, however they look nice and regularly polished look just like silver. I would agree with Satyr about the properties of silver though - I ve never had a snuff container that keeps snuff so long. Thanks for thenl link Satyr
Well, the blue man really is…blue. Truly a walking advertisement for not self dosing with large doses of heavy metals because it helped a friend with a different complaint! On the other hand, his arthritis has gone away…
@TS: Yes, he is blue because of colloidal silver. However, he was also using colloidal silver that was home made and he was not using purified, distilled water. If you go to LifeSilver.com (no affiliation, just a customer) and read up on their product, they are able to break silver down to nanoparticles (much, much smaller than in colloidal silver). Thus making it easier for the silver to leave your body. It doesn’t get trapped in your skin. I have been using nanoparticle silver for quite a while now and have not had a cold or gotten the flu, and I’m certainly not starting to turn blue.
Though in the next ten years turning blue will be a trend that people drink the silver for. Like you drinking that colladial silver for your health? “Nah so I can turn blue”
My 50th birthday is next Friday and this is what my wife found on the Internet for me. It is the snuff box of the G.H Mumm champagne provider to the court of Alexander III of Russia. It’s a nice piece and will be used, not stored as a collectable. Btw, I work for the company that owns G.H. Mumm champagne so its a nice piece of history to go with my job.
That’s a lovely box. I’ve got to save up for a silver one.
