Ventured back into my tobacconist today to find that they are no longer carrying al wilsons but instead are stocking the SD snuffs. I picked out a tin of natural. My favorite plain snuff so far but expensive. Anyway it has a warning label on the front and back of the tin that reads:Warning this product may cause mouth cancer. It says on the tin nasal snuff, couldn’t they be more creative? I found it amusing.
Sometimes laws are stupid. I don’t laugh about it.
Ok maybe I should have said irritating.
I couldn’t agree more. It is down right infuriating!
It’s interesting to note that the warning in the UK used to say ‘causes cancer’, but they dropped it in favor of a lesser ‘this product damages health and is addictive’ warning. Something happening for the right reasons in the UK is a rare gem…
The lesser warning on EU snuff was a result of lobbying by Poschl and other industry members. When I put the Abraxas ad in the STE I had to choose between various mandatory US warnings, all fairly grim and non-applicable. I damaged my health on a lamb chop last Christmas, no warnings on sheep based products so where’s the logic I asks meself.
I like the one old irish warning smoking kills.
Quite often laws are as stupid as those who make them.
I saw a comedian once, forget his name, and he was talking about the warnings that show photos of diseases. He said that while it was true that people will see a photo of a diseased lung and say ‘eugh!’, they would say the same thing if they saw a photo of a healthy lung… He then went on to ask if they were going to start putting photos of healthy colons on breakfast cereal boxes :oD
Can’t remember who said it, but I’ve always liked this quote, and it seems appropriate here: “Those who love sausage and respect the law should never watch either one being made.”
…and that’s why I can’t eat a hot dog unless I’m very drunk.
@PipenSnusnSnuff: I believe that was Samuel Clemens.
