Silver Dollar snuffs

I searched for a thread but couldn’t find one dedicated to these. They’re made by Toque, right? Anyways, I really like these snuffs. They’re available at my local tobacconist in 5g tins so I have all six that are for sale there - Original, Coffee, Spearmint, Cherry, Apricot, and Raspberry. What does everyone else think of these? How do they compare to their Toque counterparts? I really like Original, Apricot, and Cherry especially. Not too much menthol but enough to bring out the flavor, IMO. Also, is the Original considered an SP? I like the original very much and if it is an SP, it makes me curious to try others.

Sp’s are my favorite. Yes they are made by toque. The silver dollar could be alot better if they came in something else besides those circular tap boxes. Toque actually has a u.s.a toque which is pretty much the same as regular toques. Most all of the toques don’t have menthol in them at all. Which I like. What the label says is what you get.

Agreed, I’m not a fan of the turn box either. Have you tried SD Original?

Ya @bsssdd The SD Original is an SP, I’ve got some of that in my snuff box right now and it’s very good. Some others in the sp class you might want to try, Wilson’s of Sharrow Tom Buck, Best SP, and Sp2 and Irish HD Toast #20. The English Toque, Original and SP Extra are good too. I’m sure there are some other brands but I haven’t worked my way through all the above yet. The SP is a great class of snuff. “Snuff reviews” to the left of your screen has some reviews on the SD s I think you look under Toque then it’s sub divided.

@3_D, cool, thanks! I’ll add a few of those to my next Mr Snuff order. I’ll check out snuff reviews too - I’ve been there before but never really browsed it as I should. I have a feeling SPs are gonna be some of my favorites.

I think mistersnuff has an SP bundle…

He does and it is actually an excellent way to get a real introduction.

Would you mind posting a link? I’ve searched the bundles ( https://mistersnuff.com/catalog/snuff-bundles-c-167.html ) but I can’t find it. I must be blind -_-

Well, I’ll be darned @bsssdd, It’s not there any more. I ordered it as my introduction to SP’s. Wonder why stopped. Did not mean to lead you astray. A very good one to try is McChrystal’s S’nuff. It is an excellent introduction into this ‘type’. ENJOY… and again sorry for not checking first to be sure was still being ‘bundled’. (HMMMMM wonder where it went?)

Haha, no worries. I’ll add that one to my list. I’ve been meaning to try something by McChrystal’s.

If I may be so bold, If you like the smell of a good craft beer, there is absolutely nothing else like their Hops snuff… AWESOME goodness (at least for me).

I agree with stogie the McC hops is one of my favs as well. It might be slightly rough for a beginner but well worth it.

I had toque before silver dollar and I was disappointed with the freshness of the SD. Snuff is not popular in my area so they blow the dust off the tin before they bag it up. The turn tins have tape now they originally had a cellophane and the snuff was bone dry. After hydrating they are nice. I am happy Toque has a supply available as silver dollar ,Now if my tobacconist would get the toque USA in stock!

Hops sound damn good in snuff. I’ve always liked the smell of beer but not so much the taste, so that’s perfect. I think I’ve gotten the newer versions of SD, cause mine had tape around them and were very fresh (still are). I’m trying to convince my tobacconist to order the newer varieties of SD… would love to try licorice.

I’ve just bought a few of these - natural, apricot, blueberry and cherry. They were a bit overpriced ($6.99 a pop - WTF?), but I was eager to try them and there is absolutely nothing else where I am right now. The shopkeeper insisted that it’s impossible to avoid getting them in one’s mouth and throat, and that they do cause cancer (whatever, didn’t feel like arguing about it). Have been trying them out, perhaps a bit too quickly. They do seem to pack a significant nicotine punch - buzz, buzz!

I picked up an Original and Natural at a Local tobacconist, they were pretty dry, but hydrated back up pretty well. The reason I think they were so dry is the “Kid” behind the counter argued with me that they were Dip, after I’d asked for Nasal Snuff and then saw them behind the counter.

I like the SD line, but they tend to dry out really fast. When they first got them in they were just perfect. Now the cans I get are dried out and have very little scent left. The SD packaging is just terrible imho. Toque USA has the normal tin and is perfect every time you get a new can.

SD works, but, my issue with SD is the selection, the packaging (goes stale and dry too quickly), and the price and point when compared to Toque. I got my start with SD (which is why I rue having to bash it), however, Toque is the better snuff. However, if your brick and mortar shop carries it I would suggest pick it up as a matter of convenience. Especially if you are interested in doing a side by side comparison to Toque, which I highly recommend.

I was told a while back, and it was mentioned here on Snuffhouse, that SD would be getting new tins this year. Still waiting to see one…
