Hey all, Rick Charles here. I’m the Brand Manager for Silver Dollar Nasal Snuff here in the US. We’re gradually getting into more and more brick and mortar shops across the US, thanks to your support. I’m constantly getting emails from consumers asking if I can contact their local tobacconist to pick up Silver Dollar so that they can purchase it locally. So, if you have a local tobacconist or tobacco outlet that you’d like to see carry Silver Dollar, please don’t hesitate to contact me personally and I’ll have our sales team contact the retailer. You can PM me or email, either way, I’ll do what I can to make it happen for you. I’m also anxious to hear your thoughts about the brand and flavors. We’re always striving to make a better product. So, let me hear it…good or bad, I like hearing from the consumer of our snuff. In a week or so, I’ll be launching the Silver Dollar website and store locator, so that people will be able to locate local retailers that carry our snuff. Also, as an FYI…we’re adding two flavors to the US retailer/consumer sometime in Jan 2014 (maybe sooner, we’ll see). Silver Dollar Medicated and Silver Dollar Scotch. Roderick has outdone himself with these two, and I can’t wait for you all to try them. The Scotch has a warm “toastiness” to it, that I just can’t get enough of, lol. The Medicated is everything you expect from a Medicated snuff, so keep your eyes open and of course I’ll let everyone know when they are ready to go Best Regards, Rick Charles OTP Category Manager Kretek International rickcharles@kretek.com
Two words: Bigger tins!
Two words: Bigger tins!
Larger and “better” tins are in the works. We started with the tap box tins so that consumers can try the brand and flavors without hurting the wallet too badly. Now that Silver Dollar has taken off, I’m planning on making some packaging changes. I’d be interested to hear some thoughts on what you look for in a snuff tin.
I’m a big fan of the toque tins. You can go wrong with screw top.
That’s interesting because we ran several “test” market studies and more people prefer the flip top lid. It seems that some people were accidentally opening the screw top tins upside down and dumping a ton of snuff, lol. I’m not opposed to a Toque type tin, because I love Toque
I think that most people, as they order bigger tins, and bulk, are looking for a container to keep it fresh, thus more air-tight. Now, most people buying bulk, 100g, 500g, and up, would decant to an airtight container, but if I’m buying a 35-50g tin of snuff, I know I’m not going to go through it in a week. I’d like to keep it fresh for as long as it will take me to use it.

I agree completely…an airtight tin is a must. Once volumes increase at brick and mortar shops, I’m going to look at offering larger tins and possibly bulk, but not until distribution increases. I need more people to sample what Roderick has cooked up for us
hate the toque tins they ding up and bend too easily
lucky for Roderick some of his snuffs are top notch one of a kind must have can’t have a happy nose without them, or I’d stick with wilsons tins (which people hate too, can’t please everyone). Though seriously if they’re sold in brick and mortar stores the tins may get dinged up before leaving the store. Or on delivery to the store.
Love the Silver Dollar flavors, but I wish a courser version was available. I am currently an SG KB and/or Viking user, but if Silver Dollar were available locally and in the Toque course format (and in at least a 25g tin!) I might be less inclined to import myself.

You’re so right, Bob. We can’t please everyone, but we can try I’m surprised no one has mentioned liking flip top lids. I personally love them, as do most of the people I know. Mainly because of the ability to tap out what I want and go at it. I do occasionally use a snuff spoon, but only when at my desk. Most times, I either pinch from a tin or use the ole’ tap onto my hand and take it.

Thanks for the feedback. If you get me the name and number of one of your local tobacconists or tobacco outlets, I’ll have our sales team contact them to see what we can do. Odd’s are that if there’s a tobacco shop in your town, they probably already buy something from our company. So, adding snuff or Swedish snus isn’t too hard especially if someone is already committed to buying it from the retailer.

HA…I wish, lol. Sadly, the FDA has put the kaibash (sp) on the sponsorships Really, I’m just looking for feedback from the people using the product.
As much as I dislike them, the tap box would be a vast improvement over the current SD container. The Poschl type boxes might be a good choice just because of the ease of use for the person who may be new to snuff.

@rickcharles606 My boss did that with one of my can’t of Toque USA Spanish Brandy. I could have killed him. I’m glad to hear that bigger and better containers are coming out. SD Original, Spearmint, and Cherry are some of my absolute favorites. New tins will help the staleness that an old tin can get with the current design. Joy!
I actually like the Silver Dollar tins.

I tend to agree and you may just see this in the future! I like that they are airtight, but I dislike that I can’t use a spoon with them. Well, I guess I could tap it into my spoon. Does anyone else use a tap box to tap snuff into a spoon and then take it that way?

Well then I can’t wait for you to try the upcoming Medicated and Scotch!!

That’s awesome…can you tell me what you like about them most?
Rick, Glad to hear someone is taking care of the US market. Bout time. Looking forward to seeing SD in local shops. Been awful dry around here since the PACT nonsense. Like the F&T tins the best. Seal well and easy to open. Of course I usually transfer to glass jars so not a big deal. Use the MrSnuff boxes for daily snuffing.
The only shop near me that carries silver dollar is quite pricey. It breaks down into 1 dollar a gram. To sample all five 5gram spinner tins(they only carried 5 flavors) cost me 25 bucks. It doesn’t bother me until I think about it. But, I know every tin I bought, helped fund this push into the states. Oh, and original and apricot were their best sellers. Cherry and raspberry are their worst.
