I wandered into my local Smoker Friendly store in a confused bit of snus withdrawal, hoping they started carrying General. They still do not, but I stumbled across the entire Silver Dollar range, and upon trying them, was compelled to make a review for those who have not found them, or only found a few. I’ll compare them to the once-commonly available Ozona line, as they are clearly meant to fill the void created by Poschle’s absence. Grind, moisture, and so on are typical of Toque Snuff. The packaging has a Morgan silver dollar on it, and looks very American: Roderick et al did a great job trying to appeal to Americans, though it is not ideal for me. The tins are basically similar to the Ozona line, with the nice addition of a small arrow to indicate where the opening is, so you don’t spin the wheel around and around looking for the hole. This is the only advancement over the Ozona tins, in my opinion. They boast the typical health warnings, absurdly reminding you that this nasal snuff “Can Cause Mouth Cancer.” Don’t blame Toque for that nonsense–Roderick worked hard to get the feds to budge on that one, unsuccessfully. Original: supposedly a mentholated SP type. As I pinch this, I remember my old companion, Toque Original, and feel as though I am sniffing that, but then a fairly light touch of menthol cools the nose. It is not unlike running into a dear old friend at the grocery, except he has a slightly strange haircut; enough to make him stand out but still the same guy deep down. This is actually pretty similar to O&G, truth be told. I’d buy it again. Natural: This is every bit as good as Toque Natural, if not the exact same. I’d buy it again. Spearmint: Compared to the Ozona that SD replaced, this is worlds better; I like Ozona Spearmint, but this is easily the best spearmint snuff I’ve ever had, trumping Crumbs of Comfort as well. Natural spearmint and lots of it, maybe a hint of menthol, I can’t be sure. If you like Toque Peppermint, Crumbs, or Ozona Spearmint, you are in for a treat. I’d buy again. Apricot: Very weak on menthol, with a strong, almost buttery and very natural apricot flavor. Poschle’s Apricot, which was very strong in menthol and weak in artificial apricot, is no match for this by any means. It seems stronger in the fruit department than Toque Apricot. Delicious; I’d buy again. Cherry: eh, this is the best cough-drop flavored snuff I’ve had. Much better than Ozona, the cherry is natural and the menthol is a bit much. This product does not suck by any means, it is quite good, but I’ll avoid it next time. Raspberry: Good natural flavor with menthol. I never tried Ozona Raspberry or any other for that matter, but the quality of this product is definitely splendid. Fruit and menthol are not my thing, so I’ll probably avoid next time. The whole line is excellent quality, and if you can acquire them, I highly recommend it. I have to thank Roderick for working to get snuff onto American shelves; I was tickled to walk into a gas station in western Nebraska and buy nasal snuff, happily answering the curious questions of the clerk. It is all top-shelf snuff. The only problem I have is the forsaken tap tins that this fine snuff comes in, so my recommendation: pry the container open and pour your awesome snuff into a box or tin, and ditch the damn sneeze-wheel, you won’t regret it. Furthermore, this snuff is far less likely to turn people away from snuff, unlike the “blow a hole in your face with freezing menthol and sickly-sweet” flavor that Poschle is guilty of making ample use of.
