I started using a bullet today and so far so bad. I hurt myself a little bit earlier today with some Dholakia White and just damn near killed myself with Sparrow a moment ago. It was not pleasant. I haven’t figured this bullet thing out at all. What is the key to getting the right size hit with a bullet?

Fill the bullet with gunpowder and snuff the gunpowder. It would also be a great idea to then subject the gunpowder filled bullet to several hard impacts. %-( 8-}
@fredh lol, @Jim I rarely use a bullet to snuff directly from, I mostly dose out the snuff onto the back of my hand and then pinch from there. However, if you kind of stick the bullet into your nostril off to the side covering the opening of the top of the bullet a little with the wall of your nostril and kind of ease the snuff in there it should be a better experience. The touching of the bullet to the inside of your nose closes off the opening of the bullet a bit letting you better control the flow of snuff from it. This is what I usually do if I snuff directly from the bullet, and I want to mention that @CousinStuffy speaks a little of this method in one of his YouTube videos if I remember correctly, post again after trying said method and let us know how it works for you.
So number one is to make sure the bullet is empty first and foremost. The second thing is understanding how the bullet dispenses the snuff, which seems to be one turn left (small hit) and one turn right (medium hit); combine the two (large hit). I think what happened to me last night was that there must have been some snuff already dispensed or left over and I turned it left (clockwise), then right (counter), and then hit the bullet and bang! I need to remind myself that I’ve got the bullet loaded with fine dry snuff that pulls from the bullet easily. I was playing around with snuffs of different moisture content to see how dry the snuff needs to be for the bullet to work good, and kind of lost sight of what I was doing. I did use the bullet against the inside of my nose and this allowed for more control of my draw. I’ll be alright and will get it down. I was excited to try it out for the first time yesterday, got some new snuffs, hurt myself a little, and needed to tell someone about it. I tried to talk to my wife about it and she just groaned.

I find that snuff selection is a key. I would never use a snuff like WE in a bullet. You want something with a medium to medium-fine grind and a bit of moisture (not too much!). I find NB Madras, for instance, to be pretty much perfect. I try to crush any potential clumps before filling the bullet from the jar. As with the acrylics, even the Posh bullets should not be overfilled–I try to get mine just to the top of the snuff reservoir. I agree about aiming the Posh bullet into the side or front of the nostril. I normally just use the “large” side as it produces a good bump. Still, every once in a while, things will go wrong and I’ll get a nasty throat-hit. It’s just the nature of the beast.
@mecompco you were right. I loaded the bullet with some Dholakia Ganga and took the dog for a walk. The bullet worked great! I used the side of the nostril and got just the right size bump of snuff. The only problem was I couldn’t stop. I can see the bullet becoming a go to for taking medium to medium fine grind low moisture snuffs, especially when on the move.
@CousinStuffy :))
My only experience with bullets are the ones sold by Toque, and of the dozen or so I have so far, only 1 was manufactured poorly ( I had to swap out the little rod - it was not drilled/ formed correctly ). I like them myself, but having refilled a few I ca see where super fine / super dry could be a P.I.T.A.
Practice is key. Also selection - drier snuffs tend to go way too far and fluffier snuffs can be a bear to draw. As others have already noted, make sure you have sifted your snuff before loading. You will not want to fill them completely so as to allow some space to sort of shake it up a bit to break up any clumps.
