Short, Swift Sniff?

F

I have only been snuffing a few weeks and my method is I bring a pretty big pinch up to my nose and inhale very, very slowly until it enters my nose. I have been having success with snuff staying where it should. It usually takes me 3 to 4 sniffs to finish my pinch. I have been reading about inserting the pinch just inside the nostril and then taking a short, swift sniff. I tried this today and bam, right to the back of my throat. I kept trying this all day, but cannot seem to get it right. I know this is probably impossible to explain, but can someone try to give me a better idea about this method?

try just what you are already doing but for a fraction of the time rinse repeat. I know that’s not what you’re asking precisily. But it will help you gauge what you are looking for.

it took me a few months to get the hang of it myself, so don’t be discouraged if you are getting a lot of throat hits, you will find your personal method. One thing to try, is start sniffing BEFORE you put the pinch up to your nose…then bring the pinch in slowly, keep your sniff vacuum at the same speed no faster no big sniffs just a gentle pull…as your pinch approaches your nostril your sniff vacuum will start to pull snuff away…this will allow you to feel how far from the nose your pinch should be and what sort of pulling power you need. if you pinch with your middle finger and thumb you may find that better than your index finger and thumb. With middle finger and thumb you can use your ring finger to semi block, fully block or fully open your other nostril. This will allow you to also control the suction of your sniffing.

I take big pinches but inhale moderately slowly not quickly.

I never cover my other nostril, If you having trouble with fine snuff try the plugging method, Take a regular size pinch squeeze it hard for about 30 seconds to warm up , put the ball portion of the thumb so it covers the nose hole breath normal 3-4 times slowly remove your thumb in a downward direction , the snuff is now in your nose repeat other side. If it is extremely dry, moisten nose first so it grabs hold or breath hot moisture on to the snuff to slightly hydrate it. Best of luck, the moisture trick works well with all methods. If your not certain about your water purity use distilled water or a nasal saline spray, blow out excess moisture, or your guaranteed throat drip. Enjoy On another note if you manage to get snuff in the lungs and you were or are a smoker , I personally would get some mullein herb and coltsfoot herb and make a tea; one spoon of each for two cups. use 3X daily until lungs are clear. It takes 90 days after quitting smoking and the lungs regenerate healthy tissue.supplement of omega rich food and oils help it along. Exercise ,eat healthy, feel good, die latter .

Short = not pulling long enough to draw further Swift = pulling fast enough to pick up a mass that will crash into place once no longer pulled Snuff = only heavy snuffs require hard pulls, lighter snuffs require very little pull, don’t confuse swiftness of pull with strength of pull

don’t confuse swiftness of pull with strength of pull

This bears repeating as its counter-instinctive (like patting your head while rubbing your belly or writing with your lesser hand). Anyway, duration of time is critcal and can be learned through practice.

Try what you did but this time hold your breath & open your mouth a little to close your throat. It does work (kind of like making a monkey face but not so drastic)

S

agreed @Matthefox makes you take a short tight pull

This is a good explanation, I will definitely try this today. Edit: I just tried this method. I closed my throat, held my breath and with my mouth open, took a couple of shorter, quicker sniffs. Worked quite well.

It actually belongs to @Dogwalla but thank you

No credit needed. I’m just glad it works for others instead of just me. The whites and other really fine snuffs are great to use but dying while trying is no fun.

whoever first said it, the advice of dropping the jaw a little really helped me. I’ve read it before, I think, but didn’t try it until today… No more throat hitties

My advice was dropping the adams apple. Sorry Lassy I know you have “balls” but I doubt you have an adams apple. Still, you’re a smart enough gal to make sense of it.

Lol! Nope, no adams apple here. I loved your advice… Makes HDT and Toque Almond toast so much more enjoyable. Speaking of which, I’m gonna get me some now.

M

@Juxtaposer I started practicing this method once I understood what you meant by “dropping the adams apple” I equated it to holding back a cough or keeping from (excuse the expression) throwing up in your mouth. I have doing it this way ever since and do larger pinches without any throat hits at all. I have doing fine dry scotches so it is a compliment to your method

ive been taking as much snuff as i can get between my finger tips after pinching them together. maybe a little bigger than an apple seed size maybe one and a half times the size of that and generally i can do them that smal in on go. it feels like it coats the inside of my nose better. i probably should have started at this size anyways lol

786  I love mullein, it grew abundantly in my hometown.  Smoking the spike or the leaves is also said to give relief; I’m not sure how volatile the essential bits are, one might be able to vaporize it.

For anyone using mullein to make a decoction or infusion, I must echo Nicholas Culpepper’s warning that it must be strained through a fine cloth before drinking it or the small hairs will cause insufferable itching throughout the mouth and sometimes the throat too.
