Short question from the beginner I am

B

Hello everybody. I’m snuffing for about one year now, but it’s always difficult to me to have the same ‘material’ pleasure with Toque than with Wilsons… Sometimes it really hurts with Toque ! Should I consider my preferences go to moister snuffs ? Or is the ‘size’ of the snuff the reason ? What do you think ? PS : Thanks for the snuff classification page, very useful by the way.

S

It could be a technique issue; but I don’t get on - in general - with toque snuffs that use their normal base. Whilst the toasts, and Berwick Brown are awesome, normal ones make my nose feel a bit funny.

A

You know, I felt pretty much the same for a year or so. Actually, I countered this - and found a whole new pleasure - by taking very large pinches. Although it seems weird, you do start to get a whole new perspective on snuff when you take a good amount. Take about the size of a pea - or even more - in both nostrils and you will find that you have far less discomfort and much more pleasure. All snuffs irritate to an extent and sometimes it seems that some are easier than others, but I guarentee you will feel a great deal different after a few days of talking more: snuffs that just seemed to burn are somehow mellowed out. Counter-intuitive but a snuffing fact. But give it a good few times and make sure the pinch is at least twice your usual. @belgologie

W

@ snuffster : weird and amateur I know but how much do you snuff as in terms of how far up the nose?

T

@wak555 NOT FAR. IN YOUR NOSE, not your throat or sinuses. BARELY sniff it into your nose. Listen to snuffster he knows what he’s talking about. Try BIGGER pinches it works trust me. I take BIG pinches all the time. It’s the way to go.

Thanks wikimd for the image.

Everyone has to master some nostril controll in order to obtain the full pleasure snuff provides - that is a fact. Snuff is best, when it is take in a way that it not “fly” trought your nose into your throat or sinuses but stay in the middle part of the nose - there is the place where the nicotine and taste can work best.

B

Thanks to all; indeed as I read it before, everyone has to snuff, not to snort But some snuffs are more ‘sweet’ than drier ones. Perhaps I should try moister textures… In all cases that’s a nice exploration… @snuffster : I tried a good pinch; in fact, the pleasure is greater ! By the way, what’s your fresh ou juicy snuff for summer (non-mentholated) ?

A

After I tried every snuff I could get my hands on back in the day, I then settled on a fairly small group that I use all the time - so I’m a bit boring and tend to use, whatever the season, strong, plain snuffs that I add a small amount of something aromatic to. My all day snuff at the moment is Toque Quit with a touch of Rose. I use SP, HDT, Toque Quit and Natural and Rose all year long. I don’t use menthol too often but it is nice as just 1 part to 10 in whatever snuff you are enjoying at the moment. Menthol as ‘seasoning’ for snuff - added like salt to food - is under used, but can be a real eye opener (maybe nose opener) to menthols. Pick a high class menthol like OandG and just experiment.

T

@snuffster isn’t toque quit an sp ? I want to try it but I dunno what to expect. I know alot of people use it

S

Its a plain, toasted tobacco flavor, almost identical to Toque Natural only more nicotine as I understand it. Highly addictive once you home in on the sweet and rich flavor.

A

Pretty much. Original is an SP. Quit is quite unlike any other snuff I know. People say Scotch and HDT’s are strong but really that’s as much to do with the burn you get with them. You do get a bit more nicotine with all the surface area a hyper fine snuff has, but Quit is on it’s own. I actually found the taste quite unpleasant to begin with - its probably got the most ammonia tang of any snuff I know - but once you start taking it regularly other snuffs tend to just fade away. If you seriously need nicotine and have a high tolerance its a teriffic snuff.

B

(a)snuffster : menthol, used like salt to food. You’re a master, I totally agree. here in Belgium, in ‘specialised’ tobacco shops, you have sometimes (very rarely in fact) some Samuel Gawith boxes, and… Dr Rumney. I use it to cure myself when I got cold, or to wake up in the morning. Only in these cases

A

A pinch of Rumney’s added to your favourite might surprise you. And I am just an interested consumer; the masters go by the name of Troutsroker, Phillips, Ermtony and Prof Griffiths.

E

Now you’ve got me blushing!

S

And I know one of the masters personally, LOL!

A

Truth is sometimes uncomfortable.
