I love the the aroma of this snuff, its basically what I wanted a snuff to smell like. My only gripe is that it tends to fall out my nose. Does anyone have any tricks that would stop this? Maby drying it out? Is there any other snuffs that have the same/very similar aroma but are of a finer and dryer grind?
What I do with schmaltzlers is the pinch and stuff method. I take a big pinch and actually stick it in my nose instead of sniffing. Some will fall out but it’s awesome with the flavors of course moist snuffs. I also pinch my nose closed for a second after to stick it to my nose insides. Thats how I get em up there!
Thanks. What other plain schmaltzlers would you recomened. Most of the reviews ive read on schmaltzlers are that they are mentholated and I dont like menthol. Its like sticking olbas oil up my nose.
On no account should coarse moist snuffs be dried. If bought in a canister or vacuum-sealed tin the moisture level (carefully regulated at the factory by quality control) should be perfect. Take as much snuff as you can grasp and use a short, sharp sniff. Persevere with it because Scotch Black is not only a wonderful mixture of aromatic tobaccos, but good practise for a heavy rappee like London Brown (not recommended to tyros).
this is truly a great flavoursome snuff and best enjoyed by stuffing it to your nose and snorting with force, no gentle sniffing.
Yea its definatly one of my favourites.I tried mixing some of it with F&T hdt. It was pretty crap haha although old paris and hdt make quite a nice snuff,in my opinion. Would you say that scotch black is best sniffed of the back of the hand or pinched?
@PhilipS I disagree. I think you should give a moist snuff a fair chance but, if it simply doesn’t agree with your nose, it is absolutely fine to take a small quantity and see if you like it better dried up a bit. Although, most of the time, if it doesn’t agree with your nose, your nose just needs time to adjust. I certainly wouldn’t air out an entire container of a moist snuff (I have made that mistake in the past!)
i have really been enjoying this snuff lately.
Yea its good stuff. Its exactly what i wanted a snuff to be like. Id like to know if theres a snuff out there thats similar but a medium moistness and fine grind.
i have found if you put it on your hand and sniff it up it seems to work better. once you sniff press your nostril in.
wow. i got home and i was craving my pipe. i had some 1792 flake in it. this would get rid of my n cravings. before lighting up i opened a new can of scotch black. i love the moist snuffs but i never had this one. after filling my box, i took a snort and followed it up with some hedges. (a habit i got into to clear the nose) all i can say is wow. i am a fan. i love the boquet of this snuff. there is something about it. and needless to say, i dont feel like my pipe.
@cmorgan87 the schmalzlers i like are all non-menthol. I recommend Poschl Schmalzler A Brasil, Poschl Schmalzler D Doppelaroma, Poschl Schmalzler Perlereuter, Poschl Schmalzler SF Sudfrucht, Bernard Aecht Alt Schmalzler, Bernard Klostermischung, and any of the Sternecker schmalzlers as they are all good and non- menthol. I also love to mix in some pork fat grease too to make them extra tasty.
i second @thendrix65804 for that great selection. all top-notch schmalzer. i would like to add the Pöschel Südfrucht for some fruity taste in the mix - of course without any menthol
