Okay, I am very new to snuff, I have not actually put in my first order yet but will do that right after the first of the year. I was looking through Mr. Snuff and see Sam Gawith’s CT, which I love as a pipe tobacco. Has anyone here tried it as a snuff yet and if any of you pipe smokers out there can offer a comparison on the flavors that would be great too. Also, how would this be for a noob?
I’ve never tried the pipe tobacco, but the snuff is pretty nice - slightly artificial scent in the nose of cherries and vanilla. It’s easy to take as it’s the usual SG not overly fine grind.
It a great snuff for a beginner, easy to use ,not an all day snuff but great as dessert snuff.pairs well with the pipe. If you like 1792 flake, elmo’s reserve is it’s match.Firedance and Grousemoor falls into this category. don’t bother with their fruit snuffs but mostly everything else is worth trying. Also don’t buy the 10 grams go for the 25 gram tins; They are vacuumed sealed and you will get fresher snuff. Air is the enemy so decant into airtight containers for long term storage. I use 2 and 4 ounce wide mouth glass packer bottles. the 2 oz hold 25+ grams.Golden glow is mentholated and nothing like the pipe toby
Thanks for the information! Very helpful.
I am an enthusiastic pipe and snuff guy. I do not like SG Celtic Talisman snuff at all but highly recommend SG Firedance snuff. Just my opinion–for what it’s worth.
SG Celtic Talisman snuff: a very similar smell to the pipe tobacco, yet more noticeable (when I smoked Celtic Talisman the smokiness hid the aromatic smells: here they’re all very present in your nose with that hint of sweetish tobacco). A little bit cloying, but great in taste.
Thanks. This too is very informative. Marvin, your note really brings my thinking forward. With a pipe, one of the reasons why I don’t like many aromatics is because I want to taste the tobacco. Don’t know if that will be the same for snuff or not but this might be a good one of the few I start with to gauge it by. I will pick up Firedance too for comparison.
