I just got my first tin of SG London Brown, it seems to be the same as SG Black Rappee, what do you think?

I have LB on my shopping list, The BR is great so if they are the same that’s alright with me. I will pick up this thread when I get it and let you know.

They are different. @PhilipS gave a good run down of them both, search through the threads or his comments.

Similar yes. Also Scotch Black is similar. My impression (summarized from personal notes) was that Black Rappee was more smokey-peaty, and London Brown was more earthy, if those descriptions help at all.

I for one appreciate very much the differences. All three, London Brown, Black Rappee, and Scotch Black are favorites of mine. I would also include McCombie in this line up as the lightest version of this type of snuff.

They are similar but also different, to me London Brown is more pungent, earthy, and sweeter. Of the three I prefer Scotch Black.

The Black Rappee smells like it has more latakia in it than the London Brown.

SG Black Rappee doesn’t contain any latakia (as far as I have read), only Kentucky and Virginia tobaccos.

If I remember correctily not a lot of snuffs these days contain latakia. Even the dutch windmills latakia isn’t latakia if I remember correctily. I think jap took votes on what to call it and that was what it reminded people of. I imagine that latakia as a snuff would smell slightily diffrent a little more acrid. Not sure though.

If I remember correctly NO snuff contains real latakia, Molens and Paul Gotard Latakia do not contain any real latakia

Well that is a bummer… I love latakia in a pipe and these do at least remind me of the goods.

I have snuff that contains Latakia. I made it myself from Penzance.

I also made form German’s Latakia flake - not bad at all. SG Balkan flake also good for accasional use: smells like medcine bottle with some tobacco.
