SG Irish D Light

D

So. Recently finished off a tin of SG Irish D Light that I’ve had for 3 years or so. Lovely snuff. Light in colour, medium course grind, akin to Viking Blond or thereabouts. My favourite about it was the flavour- rich and creamy, wholesome light toasty flavour, none of the smokiness of other toasts, really unique and really nice.

So, I got another tin in the post this morning with my latest order. This is a totally different snuff!!! It’s almost the same as Wilsons #22- same grind, same colour and almost identical taste? I know about batch variation etc, but this is like night compared to day!

Anyone else experienced this? I’m really disappointed to be honest!

I’ve only ever purchased one tin of SG Irish D Light, but it was like no other toast I’ve ever tried.  It had a really pronounced sweet, smokey fragrance, almost EXACTLY like the way pipe smoke smells.  I actually love it, but can’t use it since this one stuffs me up extremely bad.

Damn!  I have some newer tins of Irish D Light that I haven’t opened yet, and it sounds like I’ll probably discover the same issue.  Kind of like how the Viking Dark I recently got is not the same from the one I got when I was new to snuff a year and a half ago.  Apparently this is a result of SG snuffs now being produced by G&H.  A few of my favorite snuffs have lost their nostalgic value since they just aren’t the same anymore.
