I am getting back into snuff after about 10 years. I have some F&T Seville left over and I keep going back to it. While I await on my new arrivals, I still really enjoy this snuff. I like pretty much everything about it and especially the long lasting aroma. Can anyone make any suggestions to something along the lines of this snuff? I am looking to expand my experence and would like to try something else along this line.
Most of the F&T line all except one being the HDT, is highly perfumed to the point it needs diluting with a plain snuff. Don’t get me wrong they have their place in my rotation. I employ most of them.
I don’t know any other brand that measures up to the amount of scenting of F&T line. I know of one snuff that I tried, that is Dholakia  rose chocolate; That one the scent last into the next day. It wasn’t appealing to my palate too cloying.
If you’re into Seville you will probably enjoy the rest of their line. I know Chef Daniels has a great assortment of artisan snuffs on his menu that may fit your plate. I am sure someone will chime in and rave on their favorites.   Â
@pipemaker nothing in the F&T line is remotely like Seville except HDT in that it is ground similarly.
If you like the fine grind and the orange it’s possibly worth trying Gawith Hoggarths Dry Orange. I have not tried it but it comes highly recommended. Toque’s Toast & Marmalade is another toast which I find easier to take then Seville (it’s fine but moister) but I don’t care for the flavor as much. However as flavor is very personal and Toque does make indisputably good products that one might also be worth trying.
If you would say a bit more about exactly what it is that you like about Seville (and I am also a fan of it) then perhaps people could point you in the right direction.
I’ll second Gawith Hoggarths Dry Orange. I just finished a tin and it was really nice. Tart orange flavour with a hint of something floral in the background. I didn’t care for Seville at all but will reorder Dry Orange.
I think what I like most about it is the long lasting scent, and of course the scent itself. I like the grind and the initial hit when sniffing.I like a snuff that hangs around a while so I can enjoy the fragrance longer. I will take your advice and try some G&H Dry Orange and also it may be nice to mix some Seville with a dry toast.
@pipemaker there was another thread recently about snuffs with a long lasting fragrance. I can’t find it right quick but if you look through the posts you should be able to.
I think if the fragrance of most snuffs lasted longer it would be harder to gauge the flavor/nicotine balance and would cause people either to run out of steam or deal with unbearably strong fragrance in order to get the nicotine balance. I feel like I am not explaining what I mean so I hope this is not as unclear as I fear it is!
In general, if what you like about Seville is the duration, and if you are not opposed to trying other perfumed snuffs then I can recommend Wilsons Rose of Sharrow, Jockey Club, and Wallflower. Most of the F&T line is also highly perfumed but of all the F&T I personally only enjoy HDT, Princes, and Seville. HDT is a must-try for any complete snuffer and if you can take Seville HDT doesn’t pose any more of a challenge. It is subtle and wonderful. Princes is a whole 'nother story, coarsely ground, moist, and very flavorful and does last long but beware the drip. If you get this too far back you’re going to be hacking like a one-lunged cigarette smoker for a long, long time.
Based on your comments about enjoying the scent of Seville and also the inital hit then I think it really would be a good idea to try a tin of Toque’s T&M. It’s outstanding in complexity of flavor and has a healthy dose of Vitamin N. Whether you like that or Seville more is going to be centered mostly on which version of the orange you prefer more. Toque’s Whiskey and Honey Toast is another must try although it doesn’t contain any orange, it’s a similar style with great complexity and depth of flavor and also a significant smack from Mr. N. A whiskey top note, a chocolately foundation, and a good blow.
Another strongly scented snuff is De Kralingse (Snuifmolens.nl) Latakias. There is a nice selection of those. The Peppermunt and A/P (Pine) are long lasting, especially outdoors, because of the depth of the base tobacco. Most other snuffs with long-lived scents seem to endure on the basis of the flavorings rather than the base. But there are a lot of choices out there.
If you let us know which other snuff you enjoy we can probably help steer you in the right direction, but make no mistake, as snuff is so personal and the perception of its flavors are so variable, there are bound to be some missteps along the way.
Very good response Snufbox, thank you very much. I will be trying a bunch of new ones in the newt week or so. I have placed several orders with Mr. Snuff and I am just waiting there arrival. Some of your recommendations are already on there. I did not get your response before placing the last order but I will try all your recommendations next time.
Most of the Indian scented snuffs like 6P Kailash have long lasting scents, Â when I take Kailash at night I can still smell it when I wake up in the morning.
@pipemaker my pleasure. Best wishes on your continued snuffing adventures and let us know how you enjoy what you get with your orders.
