I was getting ready to place my order and when I looked at what I was going to order, which took me nearly an hour BTW, I noticed I only had 3 items in my cart. I looked at my cabinet with all my snuff in it and honestly there are probably 10 or more cans that are hardly even used. It seems I have settled on just a few brands (Toque, F&T, and McC) that I use. And out of those it seems I only use McC’s O&G, Toque’s Toasts and Spanish Gem, and F&T HDT. That’s it. First few years of using snuff I purchased various new flavors, new brands, and so on. Now I rarely venture outside of what I know I really like. **I did order some Auld Alliance though. Sounds amazing.** Anyone else find that their use has calmed down and only uses a few of their favorite standbys?
im still wanting to experiment, just dont have the funds to haha. i atleast know i like english (as long as its not too coarse), indians, and i cant go wrong with a plain or menthol of these types. i see myself settling properly after the next few orders.
I have my favorite. I try to rotate threw my stock and there is the forgotten favorites that pop up and the duds I should create my own Crazy George with. I could live off of a few snuffs but I love the massive selection I have, valued over $3000 to let it go unused would be frivolous behavior.
When I first started, I think it was my mission to try every snuff known to man. I didn’t accomplish that goal, but I tried my fair share through purchase and trades. At this point, I pretty much use the same snuffs everyday. I usually use a Toque Toast, preferably natural or W&H, Grunt and my Schmalzers (Feinst, DF and Kloster). I have recently fallen for Medic. I would say 85% of my snuff use is Grunt and Feinst.
I ordered numerous snuffs at the beginning of my snuff adventure three years ago. I too have settled on a few favourites and am resisting the urge to keep buying until I have consumed a lot of what I already own. I like menthols, have Hedges, SM500, President, Red Bull, SM Blue (favourite) amongst others. I see the local tobacconist has Medicated no99 in the window, I’d like to try, but do I REALLY need it at this time? I have probably two years worth of snuff & I only have a small collection (30 sorts maybe) I think the urge to keep buying is because the snuff hobby is so ridiculously inexpensive (UK anyway) it’s easy to keep buying.
I still try new snuffs but really I use whites probably 80% of the time. I’m definitely settled with Indian whites for a while. I like to have something else on hand to change it up but white snuffs are my bread and butter. They don’t clog, they’re potent, they smell good and they’re not messy.
@Hoffwell In Canada you risk great expense with any tobacco import so I have come at it from a different angle. I spent a lot of time reading reviews and pouring over “What’s in your nose” lists to see which ones are really well liked. I have maybe 20 snuffs in my collection over a 2 year period. There’s much I’ve not tried but when I hit on a favourite I tend to stick with it. Viking Dark, Toque SP Extra, something from 6 photo a schmalzler or two and that’s about it so far. Wilson’s and F&T also have some of my faves. I’ve tried others in the past and I have many more to look forward to. I have just this year discovered how excellent the Samuel Gawith snuffs once they are in the 25 gram tins, but it took a while to gather the courage from my first experience with a tap box of theirs. I often wish I could do massive sampling orders or get the ones I like in bulk but the cost of that is prohibitive. I assume though in 10 - 15 years time my list of favourites will have grown from 3-4 to 10-12. Snuffhouse is an amazing resource.
I have 100s but only a few I use every day all day SG Black Coffee , Café 11 , Coffee Bite and Grando Caffe I like Coffee. The others I will sit with a large selection on an evening trying so everything gets a look in. But am still buying more
I try to experiment a bit in each order. But it comes down to there are basically two main staples I always have. Both WOS snuffs. Crumbs of Comfort and Tom Buck… Ken
At some point in the last two of years my snuff orders seemed to have been reduced to a half pound tub of Best SP and a half pound tub of Irish High Toast 22 from Sharrow Mills every few months. I’ve still got a few tins of Toque, SG and F&T left over from my experimental days, it’s possible that when these are gone I’ll make another medium sized order of things I’ve never tried. On a daily basis though all I need is an SP and a toast nowadays.
I’ve settled on about 100 different snuffs.
Yeah, I was trying everything under the sun for the first two years, F.U.B.A.R. Snafu Plain is pretty much all I do these days, very rarely I will do a scented snuff.
I go through stages, sometimes i want to try everything under the sun then some weeks i just stick with waht i like menthols being my fave
@Grim hope you enjoy the Auld Alliance! Several weeks in and it’s still my go-to snuff (I thought @Johnny 's Creme de Figue was my go-to til I tried AA!). Kind of hoping my farcical “review” a few weeks ago set you off
I could easily survive with Dholakia White and Toque Quit alone, and I carry a box each of those wherever I go. But I always have a third box, which might contain Spanish Gem or Abraxas Dragun or whatever, the third box changes all the time. I usually fill up the third box with something and carry that around, too, until I’ve finished it, then I fill it up with something else. Of course, I don’t necessarily limit myself to three, when I’m at home I often try a few others, as well. Completely different from the way I behaved with a pipe, by the way. I really had one favorite blend (Cornell and Diehl’s Tuggle Hall, sometimes billed as a Dunhill 965 clone, but way better). I did also try to experiment with other tobaccos, but it was more out of a sense of duty than anything else. With snuff, it’s always fun to try something new.
Settling has such negative connotations… I would say I have chosen a few that are my favorites and I generally stick with those, but I do experiment occasionally. My go to snuffs are SoW IHT 22, and Poschl apricot, but I sure do enjoy a nice big pinch of McC anisette, Dh black, L260, or something equally satisfying as a change of pace.
