Serving Size

This would probably be known more by the manufacturers but if anyone else has a clue about this, please share. Any idea of a serving size and how many servings on average say a, 5g tin holds? I bet there’s someone who cared enough to patiently pinch for however long it took and some manufacturer probably weighed it out at some point. I’ve never seen a snuff tin with serving size nor servings per can that I can recall.

That’s like saying how many cups of coffee can you make from this jar of instant coffee. It depends on how strong you like your coffee…

Or how big a cup you use.

LOL, I knew I had that coming with so many clever posters here, lol. Anybody with some helpful info would be appreciated. I’d hate to sit here for hours and end up losing count if someone else already has. lol

For example, I know by experience that a can of Copenhagen, while varied, generally averages between 4 on the low, huge portioned end, to a dozen or more for the thriftiest pinchers. Something like that is all I’m thinking, not an exact number,as I said, a reasonable average or maybe a range would be stating it better. I don’t think it’s that difficult a question. lol

Why bother counting when a reasonable estimate can be made. Some snuffs you can take big pinches, and some much smaller ones. Say with a particular snuff you get 20 pinches per gram, then 5 grams would be 5x20 or 100 pinches.

I wasn’t making a joke. I think it varies greatly from person to person. I would bet even with one person the number would vary significantly from time to time.

It’s kinda like asking how many licks it takes to get to the tootsie roll center of a tootsie pop…“the world may never know”.

I think the best way to test this would be with a snuff spoon i have a lovely silver salt spoon that has a little bowl bit like an ice cream scoop, with a tool like this a reasonable estimate could be made.

When I “eat” from my tin of Manjul, it’s very, very small pinches, like eating very hot curry. But when I “eat” from my tin of MG47, I take LARGE pinches, like eating a very tender steak. So Snuffdog, you can expect 1,000,000,000,000,000 different answers and they will all be correct (or wrong). LOL

I respectfully disagree, Big Al. I think the best way to test this is for all of you to send me fresh, unopened 1 pound sleeves of all the F&T, Wilsons, Sam Gawith, and Toque flavors and I will get back to you LOL

OnefortheRoad, The answer to that one, according to the owl, is “therrrrrreeeeee”. lol

Like I said, just a rough range fully realizing it would be a broad answer. It looks like what Stitch posted should be more than accurate enough for my purpose, thanks all.

Snuffbox - A cunning plan indeed, perhaps you could write to the manufactures saying you are conducting important research of great benefit to the future of snuff and inviting them to participate by sending you 1LB of their finest snuff. You never know your luck, of course it could take many tons of snuff before your research is completed.

Based on stitch’s data of 100 pinches per five grams, we can further conclude that a 25 gram tin of snuff contains 500 pinches. Applied to a 25g tin of Toque purchased for approximately $3.95 at various US retailers, we can determine a price per pinch ratio of .8 cents per pinch or 4/5ths of one US cent. Given that the average snuffer will consume a minimum of 1 pinch per nostril, we can conclude that a single use of snuff will cost a minimum of 1.6 US cents. Even considering extra costs such as those of shipping - which can be distributed among literally thousands of pinches since the average snuff order contains multiple tins of snuff - the net cost of a dual nostril application of snuff is likely well below two cents.

MATT!!! you’re a genius!! I will show this to my wife every time she moans about my snuff orders. Reckon she wiil ask what about the water I use to wash my hankies.

@Big Al “It could take years and cost thousands of lives”

@ Snuffbox - I know, but what a way to go, besides think of the greater good.

I’m convinced! LOL

I tried .05 g of Stokers plain and I needed four stout sniffs to get it all up my nose. For me it was a huge dose, but didn’t make me gag. For me, .05g is a generous “double” where american scotch style is concerned.
