Hi everyone! I’m new to snuff (a few months now, but really haven’t invested much time into it until of late), and have a few questions. To start with, I ordered a can of Toque Pepperiment, Toque Vanilla and Toque Chocolate. 1) When snuffing, I get a strange initial kick that probably lasts 15-30 seconds, but then fades away. The only way I can explain it is a sharp cold sensation that zips up through my head. I notice this most with the Pepperiment. Is it because of the flavor, or is it a nicotine hit? 2) I get a smell from the snuff that probably lasts, at the most, 5 minutes. After that there’s no more smell. Typically how long does the smell from a snuff s’posed to last? Is it dependent on the snuff? If so, what’s a snuff that typically lasts longer? It’s pretty annoying having to take a pinch every five minutes to keep the smell going. 3) Should I be storing my snuff in any special manner? I store them in an old A Fuente Short Story cigar box I have. They’re still in their tins, of course. 4) What method is best? Typically I do the pinch method, but I think there’s a way in which you rest the snuff on your hand? Thanks!
Hi @Penumbra 1) yes the kick - sharp cold sensation is probably the peppermint flavour. The nicotine buzz hits fairly fast, faster than cigarettes I think, but the cold sensation will be from the peppermint aroma. 2) yes, its dependent on the snuff, some aromas linger for a longer time, especially the heavily scented snuffs like Indian snuffs, the Fribourg & Treyer snuffs and perfumed snuffs like Jockey club. 3) sounds good, airtight containers are good for storing snuffs, have a look at some of the threads here, members have displayed pics of their snuff collection and how they store it. 4) the method is the one that works for you best. Pinching, using a spoon, back of the hand, “boxcar” , snuffing from a bullet are all personal choices, and some people use different methods for different grinds of snuff, bullets dont seem to do well for coarser, moist snuffs, but work well for dry finer grinds. Try all the different methods to work out which one is best for you. There are some good threads here on techniques, use the search box on this forum to help you. Hope thats a little help. The folks on here are a wealth of info, and lots on this subject has been discussed in previous threads, I have been helped enormously by going through old threads and reading all the hints and tips there Happy snuffing.
2 The longest scented snuff I found is Samuel Gawith Raspberry 3 Dark glass jars in a cool location 4 I like the box car method it rest on your thumb nail with your pointer finger horseshoe around the nail. You can see how big is your pinch and it don’t roll off or blow away. I feel it adds to the scent with air circulation
2- Jockey club is the longest lasting I’ve encountered so far. Even when I WANT it to go away it sits in my nose mocking me. 3- I keep my snuff in Cigar boxes and a big clear container. I found a random container website just typing in “plastic jars” on google. (There is much debate on which is the best to keep snuff in, glass or plastic, but I went with plastic because it was cheaper!) 4- Pinch or boxcar method has always worked well for me. I mostly pinch though especially when I’m doing my youtube reviews.
You’ve made some good choices, it’s hard to go wrong with Toque! 1) It could be due to the peppermint flavoring… but if you get the same feeling with other snuffs and your feeling a sharp cold weird sensation high up in your sinuses or like behind your eyes, I think you may be inhaling it too deeply. Try very short, sharp sniffs, cutting off the sniff almost as soon as you start. Even if you have to do this several times for your pinch, it helps to keep the snuff in the front of your nose (where you want it). As for a nicotine hit, it’s depending on your nicotine tolerance… you may not feel much physically, but that would be more of a light-headed feeling. 2) This varies a lot between different snuffs and, as others have said, F&T and Indian snuffs and perfumed snuffs are longer lasting. My longest lasting has been 6 Photo Kailash, which sticks to me for hours. Even after blowing my nose and taking other snuffs. You may stir up some additional bursts of flavor if you give your nose some pinches while inhaling. 3) If you don’t have many tins laying around you could go through them quick enough without having problems, as long as you keep them closed. If you haven’t already, you may want to invest in a decent snuff box… one that’s easy to carry around and you can fill with a days worth of snuff, so you don’t have to open your tin every time you want a pinch, thus limiting the air that gets in to dry it out. 4) You could make a little pile on the back of your hand and sniff it from there. There are a bunch of different ways to take it, but it all boils down to personal preference and what’s most pleasurable for you. I prefer to pinch/plug because it’s just easier for me. There’s someone here to rolls up a dollar bill and sucks it right out of his snuff box. Some fine snuffs you can just stick the snuff to your finger and wipe it inside your nose. Experiment different methods with different snuffs and see what you like best, you may even come up with an amazing new method of your own.
@basement_shaman Ive found that the longest scent is one that i cant stand, the ones i like go away much to quickly
One additional thought - if you succeed in getting the snuff in the front part of your nose, you can pinch or rub your nose a bit, and that should revitalize the scent after the initial smell has dissipated
@Roderick wow you learned from my experience last friday night at the pub!

You can also step outside and the scent you took 15 minutes ago returns from the dead.
1] You can look forward to being sensitive enough to feel a nicotine rush from snuffing. It can be easily overlooked is you don’t take time for ritual. 2] Scents that linger can be annoying. I prefer scenting that pleasantly enhances a good tobacco base for continual use. I use the snuffs from India or an F&T with a scent that last longer at the end of my day so that I won’t be snuffing something else on top of them. 3] Treat all your snuff special. Keep strong scents and menthols separate from other types. 4] Pinching is best but there is no reason not to use other methods depending on the circumstances. Sometimes it depends on the snuff. For me it depends on what kind of container the snuff is in. I usually set myself up with a snuff box. 5] Enjoy!
Wow at the amount of responses. Thanks everyone! So, from what I can gather… - I’m snuffing too hard. I should take smaller sniffs. - I should be investing in different types of snuff (Not just Toque, but different brands) to compare how long they last. - Put my stronger snuffs into a separate cigar box to avoid tainting my not-as-strong snuffs. - Look into the box car method Also, nice review on the Coltsfoot, Joe. Thanks again everyone for the replies!
Pretty much anything from f&t last the longest for me
Hi…I think longest lasting is probably Gingerbread by De Kralingse…after a few pinches you feel as if you have eaten huge loaf of REAL gingerbread…scent which surrounds you is really stunning…Beware of wasps hunting for sweet delight in your nose…!!
It’s somtimes better to have a fleeting glimse of beauty, than a fat sweaty thing that won’t leave you alone.
It is?
