Senate Snuff Boxes

I came across this link while I was surfin for snuff boxes: http://www.senate.gov/vtour/snufb.htm Of particular interest to me was the last line on the page: “While the custom of taking snuff in the chamber has disappeared, the boxes still contain snuff, in keeping with this Senate tradition.” I’m of course curious about which brand of snuff they stock the boxes with and if the practice is done on a regular basis or if the stuff is just left there to grow stale. I’ve rifled a question off to my state senator (as they suggested on the senate web site) but don’t really expect to hear back from him. I should have known better and just searched a bit on here first. This thread already concerns the subject: http://snuffhouse.org/discussion/344/snuff-in-the-us-senate/. Apologies…

sneezewort, Check out these two older posts for more info. On the second link comment #8 I have a scanned copy of a pamphlet with some good info they give out on request discussing snuff use in the Senate. Its a good read. Read comment #6 if you would like a pamphlet for yourself. Snuff in the Senate Senate Snuff

My goal is now to be elected to the Senate, so that I can have free snuff! I wonder if the other Senators would give me funny looks to see someone actually using it.

I’m sure some of the Senators that have been around a while have seen snuff being used. Someone like Byrd who has been a Senator for something like 49 years.
