Hey guys I’m pretty new here and I was wondering if you guys do a secret Santa? I use to be apart of the one on brothers of Briar and it was super fun.
I’m up for it. Cross continent issues aside…
Yeah It was a ton of fun. And if there isn’t one already I think we should put one together
Could be interesting.
It wouldn’t be worth the shipping cost to send out a tin or two, there would have to be a minimum amount to make it worth while.
What exactly is this secret santa stuff?
@Rogue Secret Santa is a seasonal gift exchange. The exchange @shawnmcsweeney is referring to is a fairly big deal on that board (Brothers of Briar). There are significant issues that need to be resolved. @Talljim and @n9inchnails mentioned two. The PACT act could be a third for us in the US. Successful exchanges need one person willing and able to put in the time to outline the requirements, solve problems, distribute names, track packages, keep the thread active, send reminders, etc… It’s a daily job throughout the season.
The pact act doesn’t pertain to individuals sending small amounts to each other. A Secret Santa could be fun but it would be a good bit of work for the person who has to organize it.
@gravel sounds like a lot of stress.
@willc That’s good to know. I know if I honestly labelled a package bound for an APO or another country that contained a pt tin, my local post office would cite the PACT act hand it back to me. In that case they were clearly wrong, but it didn’t matter. They believed they were right. @Rogue It is a lot of work. The participants can make it smooth or stressful. I would also think the organizer would need to be an established and respected member of the community and maybe have the approval of the admins to organize it.
ok, ill be all good, sit on.santas lap and see if I can get myself some coal this year then.
yeah i would be down to organize it but like @gravel said im very new here. if we did it the way B.O.B did it is there will be a minimum amount of stuff sent, for example you wouldn’t want to send a 10g tin of toque by its self. what we did was sent all of our addresses to the person running it with a short wish list of things we would like for example john doe 111 drive st. plains ville, Ohio 33433 wish list- snuff bullets snuff box menthol snuff fruit snuff ozona snuff then after he received all of those he would match up people and send the info to them so john doe would get Pete greens info and Greg smith would get Pete greens and so on and so on. i would be happy to organize but once again i am very new so i dont know if people would go for it if i was running it.
@Gravel’s right in if the post office thinks one thing it doesn’t matter if they’re wrong. Would it help if people’s “secret santa” lived in the same country as them? That way the PACT Act and or customs wouldn’t be a problem right? Please let me know if I still don’t understand how customs or the Pact Act effects mailing items. Thanks!
I am also up for it, perhaps we could draw up a regional countries list of those interested, I am sure there are enough of us per country, then an average spend (or minimum ) that would work for uk and Europe, what about you chaps in the us. Incidently I also send a package clearly labeled snuff with no issues to Tennessee
yeah if we did it, it would be best to try to keep the packages in the same country so no one has to deal with customs! lol
there is also always the option to just buy the package from a place like mr.snuff and have it sent to our respective members
so we could do something like a $15 minimum order and a $40 top cap as far as the orders and none of us would have to deal with the post office or customs or any of that jazz. sorry for the multiple comments i keep thinking of other thing to say after i already posted lol
Sounds fun in principle
