Second Snuff Order

S

hello everyone. I’m really enjoying the site and I’m really enjoying my Toque order. I’m thinking I’d like to try some other brands and WoS seems like another solid range. i’d appreciate any comments or suggestions. Early impressions from my toque order: Natural: great for learning what plain tobacco is about, I think i’d like some more plain snuffs, but I’d like them to be really unique. Original: really enjoying it, though I think I like the Gem more SP Gem: a great subtle but complex snuff. I definitely will reorder. Cherry Menthol: I didn’t thinkI liked it at first but last night I started to get in to it. Cherry: not really liking it. Lime Toast: blows my head off, I really like this and would like a similar offering from another producer in intensity. So after looking around at the WoS range i think I’ll try: BEst SP Crumbs of Comfort HDT 22 Jasmine (maybe) Grand Cairo Tom Buck Best Dark thoughts?

S

also while you’re at it, I’m going to re-order the Toques I like, I think I?ll try the 9 for price of 10 offer. So any Toque suggestions would be great too.

X

Sounds good, though the Jasmine never quite did it for me, it does have its fans. I recommend Rose, Wallflower or Carnation if you want a floral. You may want to add the new Lemon Toast if you liked Lime Toast. I have not had it yet, but it is on my wishlist.

N

Natural Toast, SP Extra, Quit, Spanish Gem, Berwick Brown, Chocolate, and Blueberry are my favorites thus far

S

thanks Xander. anyone had the Lemon Toast?

G

@ snuffmoose also while you’re at it, I’m going to re-order the Toques I like, I think I?ll try the 9 for price of 10 offer. I think that should go into the out of context quote Thread. But I couldn’t find it.

B

@snuffmoose: I scoffed a 25g tin of Lemon Toast recently. I wasn’t blown away by it. I prefer the Wilsons Lemon Grove as I think the standard Wilsons tobacco base suits the lemon scent better. Nice initial Wilsons list you’ve got there though. I’d be tempted, though, to ditch the Tom Buck - which is just a stronger tasting version of Best SP - and go for the Honey Menthol instead.

T

@snuffmoose: try the Toque Whisky & Honey - it’s fabulous.

S

@bradmajors: thanks for the suggestion. yes maybe i’ll check out the wilsons lemon grove in the order. how does a lemon lime blend sound like it would work? honey menthol’s interesting. i really like the menthol thing though those first pöschl’s i got are sitting sort of neglected since my toque order arrived. i like the menthol as an outside street snuff. @toffeenose: thanks for the suggestion @gimpy: i meant 10 for the price of 9.

S

since I am probably going to order the WoS from Mr Snuff, is there any other ‘must try’ snuffs. Maybe something from F&T? Can anyone comment on ordering from Mr Snuff particularly continental europe customers and even better alguien aquí en España?

T

If you’re going to try F&T, be warned that they are nearly all highly perfumed apart from High Dry Toast, Santo Domingo and Old Paris, all of which I highly recommend. Mr Snuff is a great retailer, always courteous and orders are turned around very quickly.

P

@snuffmoose - if you’re going for the 9/10 offer from Toque, make sure to include Raspberry and Whisky & Honey. The former because it’s the best “full plant experience” from Toque (the other fruits/floral are wonderful but not as “immersive”, I think); the latter because, even though I still can’t enjoy all the notes that are supposed to be there, is an amazingly good toast, sweet and smokey and, well, absolutely tasty!

G

Ok. I am new too, put I* will add my 2 pennies worth. Toque Chocolate I love it. Toque Blueberry I love it. Toque St. Clements this stuff is like baby powder, and a dab of this to anything and it will crank Your Tractor, float your boat and Blow Your dress up. Toast & Marmalade Very Very Good. Toque Berwick Brown Mr Snuff put one 10gm tin of this in a order I got from him I wish it was a tub, If you like plain tobacco, this aint plain tobacco by long shot, but really it is plain tobacco (nothing added) but not plain by a long shot. Toque Peach Goodveryverygood, Now F&T I have only 3 French Carotte, Bordeaux, Santo Domingo all of these will ease you into orgasim of the senses. I have a tin of these but you can bet I’m going to have them all. I agree with everything said above also.

W

Whisky and Honey is a “new” classic. A master blend IMHO, a true must try. I have some of this everyday, Buy it in bulk if you like it after that, it ages well airtight.

N

My tin of W&H got a lot better after sitting in a drawer for almost 2 years. Or maybe my tastes changed. I liked it when I first tried it, but I like it a lot more now. Also, I must second F&T HDT as a “must try”. Perhaps something from Jaap would be a good one, too. I have only tried Latakia AO 1860, but if it is indicitive of the over-all quality, then anything you order would be a good bet.

S

@everyone…thanks for the suggestions. now to figure out a toque 10/9 and a small Mr snuff order. @nelsonpipeclub: who is Jaap?

P

Jaap Bes is the owner/master snuff maker at De Kralingse snuff. Jaap posts here as “snuffmiller” and is a good friend of ours.

P

No votes for Champagne? OK, Toque Champagne is tremendous. I agree w/someone up there about the WoS carnation. Is a clean floral in a good toast. And while on WoS, try one of SM’s if you can get it in a 5g(in case you no likely). Its like Medicated 99, only much cleaner, menthol w/numbing quailities. trust me, it grows on you.

S

here’s what I’ve pretty much decided on for Toque. will place the order sometime late today. Apricot (positive reviews) Berwick Brown (your suggestions) Cheese & Bacon (how can you not try this) Coke (curious) Lime Toast (repeat) Raspberry (the full plant experiencce intrigues me, I sell a raspberry beer that rather than being a fruit soda a la Mort Subite, it tastes like the fruit, the leaves, the air on a summer day) Rose (your suggestions) Spanish Gem (repeat) St Clements (your suggestions) Whisky & Honey (your praise)

S

@pot poe: just learning all the abbreviations. is SM swedish match?

E

Sharrow Medicated from Wilson’s. SM, SM500, SM Blue, SM Brown, SM Gold. I like the SM Blue.

S

decided to get on the WoS order too. I went direct from them. all small tins: Best SP Crumbs of Comfort Best Dark Lemon Grove SM Blue Lemon Toast Grand Cairo Irish ‘D’ High Toast Jasmine I got a little confused with the high dry toasts, the F&T tins seemed a little big for a newcomer, i think i’m gonna hold off until I get a clear idea what I like.

B

yeah man there is plenty of time to get snuff. Not saying there is any reason to not try as much as you can as fast as you can. However there is always plenty of time to try more.

T

@snuffmoose: Glad to see you’ve plumped for Cheese & Bacon - I adore that snuff, but it is quite polarising; a lot aof people absolutely hate it! I hope you like it.

X

I think you picked the wrong toast. #22 is the quintessential one. #20 is excellent, but not especially toasty.

W

@snuffmoose - You must have/try #20 and #22, two completely different animals, but both excellent in my book!

S

I didn’t see 22 on the wilson’s page, but I might have been looking in the wrong place. is 22 an F&T or WoS?

N

I would call it an SP style, similar to Toque Original in terms of flavour, colour, and grind. Edited to note that is not a bad snuff at all. Further edited to note that it is a WoS, not an F&T.

S

so the one i ordered is also called #20? or I got something completely different? something similar to Toque Original sounds good to me.

N

WoS offers High Dry Toast #20 and Irish “D” Toast #22. #20 is similar to Toque Natural Toast or F&T High Dry Toast. #22 not really a toast and is similar to Toque Original, or McChrystal’s S’nuff, for example. I have both and I am still confused this naming convention. I have to actually open the tins to see which is which.

S

OK so Irish D Toast is 22? and the one I ordered is Irish D HIGH toast which is different, correct? Does mine have a number too? this is the one I ordered http://sharrowmills-online.com/snuff/sp-varieties/sharrow-snuff-irish-d-high-toast.html which on the WoS site has no number. EDIT: just looked closely at the photo. the tin has number 20. sorry, the written description didn’t. now I get it, in any case, it’s still going to be fun to try a new snuff. thanks to all for your patience with me snuffignorance

W

No wrong! Sorry- Or Maybe right. ( You got it both ways actualy). Here is the deal: The Irish D.H. Toast #20 is a toasted SP, really unique and fabulous. But a SP, Citrus. I love it. I have a lot of it. The Irish Toast #22 is a true toast, and it is real close to F&T High Dry Toast, both made by Wilson’s, and both are Fabulous too. I have a lot of it. Toasted Tobacco no citrus. Clear as mud now? Go Here:http://snuffreviews.com. I read and reread them almost constantly, it is one of the best review compendiums I know of. Try the snuffs, then read the reviews, then pick a contributor that has similar tastes as yours (takes some time), then get on with it. Snuff ignorance is easily cured, it just takes more snuff. There is a whole wild world of snuff just waiting for you- partake and enjoy! We are here for you and will do our best to confuse and bewilder you, I mean help and clarify. ( actually depends on our moods, and what snuff we are jacked up on).

X

#20 Irish D. H. Toast (Some speculate that the D stands for “dark”; yes its more of a toasted SP) #21 Irish Toast (Generally only available in Germany for some odd reason. Very plain, and not a “high” toast) #22 Irish High Toast (This is the famous one. This is very fine and dry, and has an unforgettable toasty/nutty flavor. It is comparable to F&T HDT, and high toasts from other companies) Ok?

S

if you’re going to try WoS you must try Gold Label. Try some Samuel Gawith, too.

B

#20 Irish D. H. Toast (Some speculate that the D stands for “dark”)” That’s what Wilsons told me it stood for.

W

Then they should put it on the site! I spent forever looking for the answer, after you informed me of the “Dark”, It makes sense. but I never found another reference. But at least I know now. You would think that someone from Wilsons would stop by here once in a while. It is like “here is our product, we have been making it so long that we do not care if you buy it”. Some of the sales numbers passed on by Roderick, for Sweden, were mind boggling.

S

@saucy jack: which Gawith’s do you suggest?

S

Got both packages today. Thanks for all the suggestions. I can’t wait to try all the new snuffs

S

I posted this in the ‘worst snuff’ thread, only becuase someone mentioned Toque Apricot.I’m reposting it here, I’d appreciate any thoughts. I love all the WoS and Toques from my last order except; the only snuff i´m not enjoying is apricot. i ordered it because of several positive reviews and suggestions. all i can say about it is: it smells like slightly soured milk. maybe i got a bad tin? I´m new at this, but judging from all the other toques, they don’t send bad product. The smell for me is like i said stale milk, in the beer world we would call this a lactic acid note. it’s really strong in my apricot. maybe it just needs to breath? I know the toques go for a natural vibe and I love the raspberry for example, but I can’t get in to the apricot. any help or suggestion would be appreciated.
