Sealing tins

I found a few 1/2" width rubber bands, I foind these seem to do a good job sealing up my larger tins.

Have you bought any bulk yet? Since I stopped buying cans and just bought the two types I use in bulk Ive never enjoyed it more. Sounds like a good idea though as the old fashioned round cans are far from airtight.

the things we type about huh … i like to use electrical tape i use a yellow one looks better than black

how about the green and yellow stripey?

The old-fashioned soft rubber bands DO a good job of making things airtight - we used to use them to seal vacuum columns in school. They didn’t like us using grease, because students always made a big mess with that, and they were too cheap to supply silicone tape. It is a little tricky though - you need a good amount of tension, but not so much that it twists or distorts the rubber band, just stretches it so it pushes hard against the gap. The softer the rubber band, the better it works. Some rubber bands have little holes in them, which aren’t obvious until you are drawing a vacuum… You can also make an airtight seal using layers of wet toilet tissue. Unfortunately, it stops sealing when the tissue dries. So - not good for snuff, but can work in a pinch if you have a vacuum leak on a hose in your car and you just need to drive a few more miles…assuming you always have a roll of TP in your car like I do. Of course, it would have been easier to have a roll of electrical tape or silicone rescue tape…
