Scotch question and other snuff stuff

I was wondering why is called “scotch”? I’m a scotch whiskey fan so wondered if there’s some association? Also, living in colorado in curious if anyone has created a THC snuff? I don’t do pot or know much about it but from what I understand it would be difficult to pull off because thc needs an activator?

The only info source I could find was Wikipedia. Which is not a good source considering the references on that page was about bee stings and such. Nothing to do with tobacco. Even wilsons quoted Wikipedia. Here is the site: http://sharrowmills-online.com/company/what\_is\_it.html That’s all I could find. Hopefully someone else can chime in.

As far as the thc stuff: http://snuffhouse.com/discussion/7026/cannabis-snuff-wont-be-long-now/p2

Red5angel at the moment THC snuff is not possible since THC is not readily absorbable past the blood brain barrier through the mucus membranes’. The closest thing you will get to this, would be a pure thc extract, an extract that doesn’t leave a water byproduct hence a solvent that isn’t either hydroscopic or water soluable,  depending on your known level of chemistry experience preferable a CO2 extraction, if not possible a butane extraction will suffice. *Note that the bulk “vegetable matter” will have to have undergone decarboxylation before beginning the extraction. If you grind and pulverize the extracted concrete into an incredibly find powder, you could potentially make a snort able version of THC. Although in this case I don’t see why you wouldn’t just orally consume this product, there is no added advantages of snorting it, if anything you will loose some of the potency.
At the moment it is not possible to make a THC molecule that can act in this way, and if we do someday figure out how to change the chemical make up of THC chances are it wont be anything like the THC we know today.

If this was achievable someday in the future I believe it will be done with new advancements in organic chemistry. We will need to figure out a way of crystalizing pure ethanol into a stable Chrystal lattice with a much higher melting point and then we may have a chance at being able to make a THC snuff. Almost like a crystalline tincture. Even if we achieve the crystallization of ethanol this may still not be possible.

On the scotch snuff question, I’m not sure why it is called scotch snuff. I have been under the assumption that the scotch snuff is aged in oak barrels just like scotch whisky, although this is just a guess. Who knows this could be another terminology that has been lost through history, like the meaning of the abbreviation SP. I hope someone with more knowledge on the subject can give us a definite answer.

Good stuff Aaron, and it basically coincides with what I’ve discussed with friends who know more about it than I do. Though I’ll have to check out psicko’s link and see what they say. I’m also kind of operating on a similar theory to yours on scotch snuff. I kind of hoped maybe the taste was relative but the stuff I have isn’t anything like the scotch I drink!

Interesting, psicko, the scotch explanation on that link seems reasonable.

http://jpet.aspetjournals.org/content/318/3/1230.full I hope this helps, it shows the limitations of a soluble THC solution

Most people agree Scotch is from scorch, it’s a scorched snuff and people started calling it scotch and it stuck. All scotches are scorched but almost no scotches have scotch so it seems plausible.

Scotch started out to be a toast.  Where the floured tobacco is heated to a toasted quality to bring out some sweetness and nuttiness. Scotch happened by accident and was over toasted. thus scorched by 18th century Dublin snuff chandler and Michael Larey, the “Irish blackguard”, who inadvertently invented Scotch ( scorched ) snuff when he fell into a drunken stupor and allowed tobacco drying in a kiln to roast.

On the pot snuff ,sure you could make some, herbs are often used as snuff for many reasons. If your intent is to get stoned off of it; it would have to be concentrated. Slaked lime is used in different cultures when making snuff. Be aware lime is caustic and does burn like hell. You would have to find the correct ratio . Your end product would look more like a chemical snuff then any thing natural and dosage may need to be insufflated rather than snuffed.

@basement_shaman who ever said us Irish being drunk all the time never invented anything. I’m prouder than ever to be Irish, he may have invented scotch snuff although I guess he was too drunk at the time to have realized he was actually Irish not Scottish :stuck_out_tongue:
