Schmalzler help

I just got all 3 different Sternecker products in the mail and I love them. Once I transferred some of them into snuff boxes, I put the all the packages in a bag, and then put them in an airtight plastic container. Well I know that this will keep them moist longer, now I want to give the Poschl Schmalzlers a go. However, I’m nervous that the Sternecker schmalzlers will dry up before I get through them first. Can schmalzlers keep for a long time (like 1 year or more) in an airtight container?

Many people put the airtight containers in the freezer or refrigerator.  I saw a couple people comment that they do this and it’s worked well for me so far.

Schmalzlers keep well for long periods since they are moistened with oil.  I have a 100g. bag of Staubinger that has been open for 6 months with no special precautions and it is as fresh as the day I opened it.  I think you’ll be just fine.

Any snuff will last indefinately in an airtight container

I use 4 and 8 oz canning jars for schmalzlers. I put other snuffs in freezer bags in the freezer.

I store all my horde in cobalt blue jars, fresh and moist as the day I loaded them.just store out of sun light and drastic temperature  change causing internal condensation resulting in mold or rot. Air tight glass is best no transfer of chemicals like plastics.Cellaring  pipe tobacco aging improves some blends like straight english blends and does nothing for aromatics.I believe the same to be true with snuff.read at this address  http://www.scribd.com/doc/53733989/Aging-FAQs

@Jazzi_Mike Don;t forget the Bernard’s big bags. I’m a big fan of those

Yes, I’ll definitely get to them in time. The only reason I haven’t yet is because they’re technically not schmalzlers. While I know that they’re probably very good, I have fallen in love with schmalzlers because they’re the only kind of snuff I can stuff and they taste incredible.

@basement_shaman I was thinking like that about aging snuff. Now I am of the mind that the alkalizing salts added to snuff may hinder the same type of aging that pipe tobacco enjoys. Only time will tell.

The only thing I don’t like about schmalziers is stuffing.  I HATE stuffing…a lot.  Does anyone else mix them but me?

I confess I am a mixer. Some times my mixing turns out to be a tolerable mix, Sometimes i have to continue mixing until I come up with something tolerable.
I don’t mix schmalzers with anything, I like them just as they are.
There is a thread mentioning the use of a snorter, here floating about well  schmalzers are a good candidate for the use of a snorter, just keep snorting until the nose is full.
There is not anything I don’t love about smalzers except I can’t get enough stocked up for eternity.

Schmaltzers were not love at first snuff for me. I found them tolerable and good for nicotine but didn’t really appreciate the flavor. I remember something about Bernard’s postillion disgusted me! But now I love it. I only have lutzbeck premium and postillion now and both of them get better and better each time I try them. I guess postillion isn’t a true Schmaltzers since its mixed with a scotch but it is damn good. I don’t know how I acquired a taste for them but talk about 180 degree turnaround in opinion. What were your initial impressions of schmaltzers?

I enjoy Schmalzlers,Poschl brings fantastic fruit scents in larges bags,Bernard have got a good variety range(include Postillon witch is just sell by B),Sternecker is a specialist and brings very good items, very generous…

Before have known Poshl ones I haven’t identified vanilla in Postillon and Regensburger Pris, hidden by fruits.

include Postillon witch is just sell by B???

@TomStrasbourg Postillion is not mixed with scotch snuff. Its flavored with scotch whisky. Big difference!

That would explain why it’s the same texture and moisture as any other schmalzer. Thanks for clearing that up.
