Interesting book about Perfume making also aimed at making a scented powder: http://www.gutenberg.org/files/16378/16378-h/16378-h.htm

Here’s another old perfumery book that has a section for making and scenting snuff: _The British Perfume_r by Charles Lillie, London 1822 http://ermtony.pbworks.com/f/The\\_British\\_perfumer.pdf

@Jari_T interesting book, but yesterday I read the chapter on snuff but it didn’t mention scenting. The art of scenting snuff is a big secret job as it seems, I can understand why. But now they didn’t record their history back then, we don’t know how they did it.

You are right. I could have sworn that it did. Must have mixed with another book. But I do think it gives a good insight on how the snuffs used to be more about the tobaccos and their processing, and less about adding scenting. In fact, almost all of the snuff types described in that book were entirely unscented For those interested about the snuff chapters they’re in pages 321-359 of that .pdf.
