Well snuff house I have a very simple question. My Bordeaux lasts a very long time. I’m talking hours. Macuba is up there but not as much. Then santo Domingo, old Paris, and hdt last it seems 30 seconds. Are those snuffs supposed to be short lasting? They taste remarkable but only for a short duration. Thanks

C

I’d say the difference is that SD, OP, and HDT are not perfume snuffs. The scent in those is mainly from the tobaccos used, and thus have a shorter tail. Macouba and its ilk contain perfume oils, which may stick to the olfactory receptors for a longer duration. In past times it was normal for snuff houses to make custom blends for customers, which combined perfumed and natural tobacco snuffs, to get a balanced profile, and collector/amateurs made their own, in hopes of impressing their peers.

Well that does make quite a bit of sense thank you! @cpmcdill

S

Seville also lasts long and @cpmcdill’s explanation would seem to apply

J

The temptation to say “Too damned long” is irresistable.

C

@JakartaBoy  Thank you.  I wanted to say so badly I almost burst.   =))

W

It has been a while since I took any scented F&T but I do remember them lasting a long time.

J

The perfumed varieties last forever. I’ve recently found that if your Morlaix or Bureau lasts longer than desired, blast some Hedges L260 and you’ll be a clean snuff slate again :>

H

Patchouli is in my next order which should be here in the coming days

S

Funny, guys. Most of the F&Ts don’t agree with me. Seville is about the only dry one I like aside from HDT. Their Princes is the cat’s meow though.

J

I respect other people’s tastes in snuff – which is a tactful way of saying I can’t stand most F&T except HDT, which is the exception that proves the rule, because it’s totally different in concept from any of the others. For a very brief period, I found that mixing Viking Dark 75% with one of the more scented F&T 25% did produce an interesting, still highly scented snuff. But in the end, I decided I preferred one hundred percent Viking Dark. Still, I think some of them could work as a flavouring for other snuffs, just to tone the F&T scent down a bit to a tolerable level.

C

Yep.  What @JakartaBoy said.  HDT is a mainstay of mine and (ahem) broke my toast virginity way back when.  The rest of them…I wouldn’t give you a nickel for a train load.  To each his/her own.

If you like it, snuff it.

W

Besides HDT I’ll only save the less perfumed of their line, Santo Domingo & Old Paris, these I find to be very great snuffs, easy to sniff, very well balanced and not overstaying their welcome.

The rest I find it way too much perfumed and exceptionally long lasting specially the ones that have geranium in them, whenever I picture in my mind how the perfumy F&T snuffs are made there’s always a 50 gallon geranium essence bucket involved…

H

Wow high dry toast really is just that darn good to quite a few people. No kidding when you say to each his own. @chefdaniel

J

HDT is definitely a snuff standard.
I like Old Paris and Santo Domingo too.
Some of the other ones are weird to me,but I like to partake occasionally.
Honestly, when i want some Georgian style snuff, I just hit the SWS

M

After trying all of them over the past few years, I seem to have settled on Santo Domingo. I still like to binge on them all once a while. They all get overpowering with their powerful scenting. I guess French Carrotte and Seville are my runners up.The HDT of course, as everyone mentioned, is fantastic.

D

Of all I’ve tried the ONLY one I find tolerable is the HDT, that said,I prefer IHT22 over it. The times I’ve tried them side by side the 22 always seems more flavorful.

H

I’ve been taking patchouli lately and my aunt and uncle have both commented “hey you smell like patchouli.” Kinda weird
