I was disappointed when i first bought this. It seemed bland. But, being outdoors today i have to say i like it. I get mild vanilla and that SP thing behind it and a subtle tobacco scent. Its fairly low in N that to my mind makes it an all dayer. Easy to take too.
It seems that a lot of snuffs gain in flavour and richness when you enjoy them outdoors, especially in cool or cold weather. I like that very much.
SGRC…I love abbreviations. Red Crest is my favorite of the Crest series, but they’re all good in their own way. I think Red is the richer of the three and shows me a pure tobacco profile with great staying power. Not a nic bomb, but an easy going one to keep close by in case of emergencies, like running out of HDT.
I think the Red Crest is a very good snuff. I rate it 4 out of 5. In my “taste,” it is smooth and has a nice natural flavor with subtle background hints.
I have to say I prefer Blue Crest, to me it tastes like a cup of tea… Red is great though!
Not tried blue crest, but i love a brew so its going on the list.
@Franknsnuff If you get the same from it as me, you will love it! Thats the problem with snuff though, everyone gets something slightly different. Or completely different in a lot of cases…
I like this snuff, conversely I got a good nic hit off it but then again I am not a regular smoker, rich tobacco scent reminds me of cherries
IMHO all of the unscented Crests are superb examples of pure, natural tobacco snuff. I can’t detect any added scents, but each of them coaxes out the natural tobacco nuances that can remind me of fruits, wood, fresh cut hay/grass, that “clean” barn scent, tea (both black and green), and a myriad of other olfactory goodies. These stay on the lighter side, but when the dark side beckons there are Bernards Gekachelter Virginie, GH Kendal Brown and some of Jaap’s wonderful creations using fermented Virginia as the star player. Isn’t snuff just too fookin cool?
Felt the need to resurrect this old thread after trying this wonderful snuff for the first time. I agree with @chefdaniel that it’s the richest of the three, and I can definetly detect the “clean barn” (lol - such an apt description) undertone of the natural tobacco. An all dayer for sure!
@Nulliverse It was wonderful stuff. MS no longer sells it, and the rumor is that SG no longer produces it. We should get a petition going to resurrect Red Crest! Maybe I could help with my channel? What are your thoughts, @chefdaniel
@Hitsuzen Count me in.
Sounds like a winner @Hitsuzen! Actually, I caught rumour of its discontinuation (thanks @chefdaniel), so, thinking I must’ve missed the train, I endeavored to find a stash. And find I did, at: https://www.thebackyshop.co.uk/categories/samuel-gawith-kendal-snuff
I’ll contact MS and SG both to get the full story, then ask SG if they would be willing to resurrect Red Crest, given enough demand. You all decide where you would like to hold the petition (seperate thread, offsite, an email, etc), and I’ll do a video review of Red Crest followed by a direction to the petition. @markstinson would Modern Snuff be behind this, too?
I would throw in any help that is needed. Definitely.
Nothing more fun that having a mission. :-)
Mark
Sounds like fine plan @Hitsuzen and @markstinson! I think a new petition thread on both sites would certainly carry some clout.
I feel that if it’s going to be a petition, it should be in one place, not split up. No personal preference where, as long as everybody, from all the communities (here, Modern Snuff, Modern Snuff Facebook, Nasal Snuff Takers Facebook, and BoB Snuffbox) are made aware of it and provided a link. I propose actually setting up an email for everyone to mail to. It would be offsite, open to all of the communities, and easier to manage, and would count them automatically. That’s my two cents.
You could use an on-line petition. Easy to create, easy to sign, and easy to see the results. Something like:

or
http://www.thepetitionsite.com/
and more are listed here:

I think its important to contact Samuel Gawith first. If the snuff sold very poorly, then discontinuing it might make the best sense. Making sure they’ve discontinued it, and why they discontinued it would be pretty important. If they discontinued it for poor sales, then exactly how many names would you need on a petition to get them to believe it would be worth making again? I imagine quite a few names.
Another option, would be a kickstarter campaign. This would be a little complicated, but if enough people pre-order through a kick-starter, then there would be no risk to making more of this snuff. Of course, that would need to be coordinated with Samuel Gawith, and there’s a lot more to this.
They still list it on their website, but it might not be up-to-date of course.

This is all blowing up a bit too fast. I contacted SG. Let me see what they say.
Okay, so I heard back from MrSnuff first. Here’s a copy-paste of the pertinent part of theit response. Regarding the Samuel Gawith Red Crest 25g, it is indeed out of stock and as I said above, it maybe restocked by the end of next week, hopefully. However, I would like to confirm you that the production has not been discontinued. I hope the above helps! Regards, Jaime
