Samuel Gawith London Brown

Samuel Gawith’s London Brown Mill: Coarse Color: Really dark “brown” (Black) Moisture: Moist (Almost spongy) Nicotine: Medium-High? (I have a hard time telling anymore) Menthol: Surely not! Samuel Gawith’s London Brown is a blend that I have wanted to try for quite a while. I received it in my order from Snuff.me.uk. Upon dosing onto the hand, the snuff is of coarse mill and moist content. As stated above, it has a spongy feel, very soft. I suppose you could line this up with Samuel Gawith’s other plain snuffs such as Kendal Brown, McCombie and other fine selections. This is indeed a straight tobacco snuff. It appears to have a deep fermentation which gives it a dark earthy flavor with leather tones. What a wonderful snuff. Lovers of plain tobacco and straight snuffs will love this. I can see a 19th Century Londoner snuffing this whilst walking the cobblestone streets en route to the pub for an ale. Once again, 5/5 pinches.

Totally agree with @cstokes here, very good review. I’d like to add that London Brown has more ‘staying power’ than dry snuffs and it is very pleasurable. Absolute snuff milling and blending genie!

I like this a lot more than Black Rappee. This is ridiculously coarse and falls out of your nose so don’t take it at work. The flavor is rich and full and the nic level is pretty high for an English snuff. Excellent.

Just tried this for the first time. Had a 25g tin sitting in my snuff chest and decided to try something new. I like it but i think this should have been called “London Mud” instead. It is the most moist snuff i have ever had. More like dip than snuff. So wet i can barely snuff any and really it needs to be packed in. Nice plain fermented tobacco flavour and one of a kind. Time will tell if i order any more as i already have WoS Best Dark in bulk as my go to damp snuff (not near as damp as this though). Give it a try i say.

Can anybody tell me if the LB is similar in smell to the SGKBOriginal? Not fond of the KBO scent but love the grind and moisture plus it’s the only coarse moist snuff I’ve tried…so far

@NewGuy‌ No, I don’t think London Brown is similar to KB Original. London Brown is moister and probably a bit courser. If you don’t like the scent of KB Original, they make a plain unscented version, KB Plain.

I wouldn’t be surprised if London Brown is used as a foundation in the production of the Kendal Brown range. LB is pure unscented tobacco bliss that’s a bitch to take until it’s figured out with a lot of practice and stained shirts. Kendal Browns by SG have a similar learning curve but all of them seem to have a scent, even the “Plain”, albeit that one is very, very subtle…just a whiff of citrus to my nose. I just ordered two more tins of LB to get me through winter. I can make a tin of Black Rappee last at least a year.

Cheers guys
