I just opened this one from my last order. Oh My God!!! This one is wonderful!! I love their Black Rapee and Black Coffee seems to have the same tobacco as a base with a finer grind that I wish Black Rapee had. It is less smokey and adds a great coffee flavor. I wish I had opened this over a week ago when I received the order. I had tried toque espresso and WOS coffee and cream this is the best coffee flavor and a wonderful tobacco. Do they have any other snuffs that use this tobacco as a base?
SG Black Coffee is one of my personal favorites as well. I have to use restraint with this one or it would be gone in a flash. I intend to stock up well on this one on my next order. I don’t know that I would compare the base tobacco to Black Rappee however. BR is definitely darker and moister and I don’t get the same base aroma from BC as I do from BR; I love both quite a bit though. I haven’t had all of SG’s offerings yet, but I have yet to come across another that has the same base tobacco as BC. It is my understanding that this is the same snuff as SG makes for another company under another name, so perhaps this particular base tobacco is unique to BC. One thing I love about BC is that I seem to get a caffeine kick on top of my nicotine fix. This could just be a figment of my imagination but either way it makes it that much more appealing.
I love SG Black Coffee too. Great rich base tobacco and excellent coffee flavor. I’ve been taking this to work with me for the last week and I can’t get enough of it. It is so good for me that I find that I am drinking much less coffee at the office.
Snuff Store Cafe Noir is a great coffee snuff too.
“I don’t know that I would compare the base tobacco to Black Rappee however. It has a different grind and I think Black Rapee is exposed to peat smoke in some way like the grain is with an Islay Scotch. It wouldn’t be the first time I was wrong, but it is close enough that it is much of what I have been wishing for since I first tried Black Rapee and found that it was a process to keep it in my nose due to the grind. Coffee flavor is a great bonus.
are the samuel gawith 25g tins the same as wilsons ??
SG’s 25g tins are vacuum sealed and larger than WoS’s 25g tins; they are shaped more like a snus or moist oral snuff can. SG snuffs tend to be of a coarser and moister or fluffier variety than WoS and therefore take up more space. The vacuum seal is also something to be admired. It is really a shame more companies don’t utilize similar packaging methods.
Meanwhile I really really love this snuff, although I drink more tea than coffee. But the aroma is like you go into a Starbucks shop. I don’t get any caffeine kick, but a wonderful smell. And after this initial coffee or espresso aroma leaves, I got a long standing beautiful smell of pure tobacco in my nose. Really like it.
I am on my first tin on this as of yesterday, and it is pretty damn good. My favorite so far of the dark snuff variety. Is this the same tobacco base as the plain gawith snuffs (scotch black)? I like that one as well. Must me latakia.
I find S.G Black Coffee and WoS coffee cream like two exellents, but différents, ground coffees translated on Snuff.
The two are results of a fine blend on emblématics products.
Slight edge goes to WoS coffee cream over SG black coffee. The intensity of the latter is a double edged sword as I think the former is more suited to blending with other base tobaccos.
Love the SG black coffee straight all the morning .Mixed with Paul gotard Irish Cream to finish off lunch
Is Black Coffee a more coarser grind? I cant stand toasts and fine grind snuffs and I want to put in an order of british snuffs that I dont have to be careful with sniffing, i had that problem with quite a few toques
Coarser and moister than toast. You will stand it.
Thank you
SG BC is a good introduction to British snuff as is Vanilla. Graduate to WoS SP, Tom Buck and similar products and then finally to F&T HDT.
I am a fan of SG BC too. Since SG is one of my favorite firms, i am always happy when i can try the next snuff from them i dont know and even better when this encounter turn out to be as good as BC. Go, go Samuel !!!
This one has only just clicked with me. There is a certain sweetness in the coffee aroma that somehow doesn’t really appeal to me most of the time (I only drink black unsweetened coffee), but having been on it all day today has given me an appreciation for it. If anything, the base tobacco is very nice and the fluffy texture is great.
I’ll have to have a word with Kris at The Black Swan Shoppe and get some of this. I’m seriously getting into the SG snuffs at the moment, I’m yet to be let down.
@talljim I am in the same boat, I ordered several in my last order and just ordered some more Kendal browns and honey. I get some nicotine from them but occasionally require a pinch of a toast or toque quit. The coarse dark snuffs have all been great same with the apple I bought. I may have to declare them my favorite snuff manufacturer. Are there any places that ship bulk Samuel gawith to the u.s.
