Samuel Gawith Apricot

Several months ago I got an old style tin of SG Apricot from My Smoking Shop when they still shipped to the US. I wasn’t impressed. I had thought that it tasted rusty since it was in an old tin that had a bit of rust on it, and it shared a similar character with a tin of Otterhound that I got that was also rusty. I wanted to give it a second try to give it a fair evaluation. I have a new one in the new plastic dispenser. It also tastes rusty. I don’t get it. I guess I’ve just associated that flavor with rust. I certainly don’t taste apricot. Also this one has menthol, the previous one did not. Can anyone else comment, please? I’m rather confused about this. Edit: it was Cuckoo, not Otterhound, that was the similar one.

Xander, the SG Apricot I tasted was excellent. NO Menthol and a nice apricot flavor. Really enjoy it. Tom ps. although, I just checked their site and the Apricot IS listed as having menthol. I sure couldn’t discern it though.

its very light menthol. Kind of like the Raspberry. Its not bad, but it wasn’t in the tin I had before. I guess it fades over time in old tins.

Apricot is one of the few SG snuffs I do not have. Can’t help you there. Edit: Apparently I do have it. I must have just forgotten about it I guess. It is quite nice, no menthol and a very nice flavor. Quite similar to McChrystal’s Apricot, but less sweet.

You’re right about it being similar to McChrystal’s. The flavors are very close. There really is menthol in it, though no one beleives me! You can’t tell unless you actually snuff some. There was none in my prior tin. The flavor is gowing on me a bit, but I don’t think it smells like apricot. Just kind of sweet. Its certainly fresher/moister than my old one.

I got one of the plastic tap-out boxes from a local tobacco shop, and I noticed menthol in it, seems like it actually brought the apricot flavor out for me. I don’t really get much of a tobacco scent from it truthfully.

Is this the Poschl made one? That has menthol.

OK, I was thinking of the Poschl made, “Gawith Apricot” in the dark tap-out container.

They do make that one, but we have been talking about the Samuel Gawith Apricot, not to be confused with Gawith or Gawith Hoggarth. Will the real Gawith please stand up?

The mac c’s apricot is not menthol and very very good.

Toque Apricot is excellent I’d highly recommend it. Stefan
